BCS Bids, Getting Closer, Utah!?
Palehosefan replied to Texsox's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Miami is back to their old form after the lapse after UNC beat them. They beat a very good Virginia team and smashed a solid WF team and had their old swagger back. I think they will hold their own with anyone now. -
In 2003 BA had him as the Cubs 3rd best prospect. Here was their scouting report. "Strengths: Because he’s an intimidating 6-foot-9 lefthander, Sisco draws comparisons to Randy Johnson–and he’s more polished than Johnson at the same age. Sisco made strides with his mechanics last year, when he regularly threw 90-96 mph. Besides his arm, he also earns high marks for his athleticism, feel, poise and work ethic. Weaknesses: Sisco needs to make his delivery and his pitches more consistent. He has a slurvy breaking ball that should become a curveball if he maintains a higher arm slot. He throws his splitter too often and needs to develop a true changeup. His command can be shaky. The Future: Chicago’s strength is pitching from top to bottom, so Sisco won’t be rushed. He’ll open 2003 at low Class A Lansing and won’t see Wrigley Field before late 2005. "

Texas AND Cal would have to lose before Boise State got in. Thank God, Boise would get smashed by Utah. -
Marshall McDougal, wasn't he the one at FSU that hit 7 homers in a game or something? Sisco would be my pick also, had great stuff and is still pretty young, should grab him and wait.

Not a big fan of Roderick and Lodrick Stewart. When they were being recruited, they begged to be recruited by UNC. UNC obliged after a great camp that brought Lodrick Stewart up to the top 5 rankings and Rodrick up to the top 15. Lodrick was always picked as the better player, but as the year went on, both started stinking it up and Rodrick barely managed to stay in the top 25 while Lodrick slipped even further. They are amazing athletes though and would put on shows before their games jumping over each other and dunking etc. Good luck to Rodrick at KU though. -

Will be very interesting to see if the Longhorns beat A&M, how much of a boost that will give them in the BCS standings. Thats an amazingly tough call to have to pick either Cal or Texas. Both have taken care of business since losing to arch rivals, Texas has faced tougher opponents, but Cal has blown out almost all of their opponents. I'll stick with Cal also. I agree with Man of Steel's picks 100% right now. -
I disagree about Lebron's size hurting him when he guards 2G's. His size and length allows him to dominate 2G's if they try to take him inside, and his length combined with his quickness lets him play solid perimeter D. He will learn to stay in front of his man better as he ages, he has the natural ability to do it. Ron Artest is very similar in size and can guard 2G's pretty well also. I think their size actually benefits them, but I can see your point also. Its gonna be interesting to see if Garnett or Lebron end up with higher assist totals and just how close they come to averaging a triple double, they are the only two in the NBA that can come close to Oscar Robertson's feats in the NBA.

There's another kid in HS they are trying to compare to Lebron. His name is OJ Mayo, I believe he's a sophomore this year. 6'4 right now and very skilled, just not quite on Lebrons level as a soph. Lebron was the best high school player from the time he was a sophomore on. Mayo is one to watch out for, as is big man Greg Oden of the Junior class.

Here's a good story about a great player and person on UNC's team. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1930837 -
I just still can't believe Lebron is 19, that is just insane. He already has a complete game, people doubted his jump shot, so he worked hard on it and now its a weapon also. He is the most gifted player to EVER play the game. 6'8 240 and a 45 inch vertical. Just amazing, no other word for him. I'm just so thankful he's articulate and is a good role model for kids so far. The NBA couldn't have drawn up a better player to market their entire future around.

Iowa put up a great effort tonight, UNC just was clicking on all cylinders. Iowa shot lights out from 3. UNC wins 106-92, Felton tourney MVP. Felton is something else. Jason I agree about the officiating, just terrible the entire tourney. -
Hey I've got almost 800 in 7 months. I'll be at 20K in like 15 years, just wait for me.

I think he could be a perfect 3-4 year college player. A little under-sized for the position which could keep him out of the NBA early on, but could dominate the college game for a while and then have a nice career in the NBA. Are you guys using him at the PF position? -

How's DJ White looking? He was my favorite freshmen outside of UNC's duo. -
Since this is never going to end, I will stop arguing. You think it was a bad foul, I don't. You think Artest is a pussy because of it, and I don't. Thats fine.
-
I'm not gonna get into this again, but I have to refute this. If you watch ANY NBA game, you will atleast 5 fouls as hard or harder than that foul. Second, Ron Artest just doesn't give up easy shots to anyone at anytime, thats the type of defender he is, its what makes him a great defender. It wasn't a cheap shot, it wasn't even a hard foul. Ben was just upset at being destroyed by an arch rival, and let his temper out. With that said, I think everyone has shown what side they are on over this issue over and over again, its not gonna do any good to argue on it anymore. I don't see any of us changing our minds, nor should we. Now we get to see whether the PA will get their way and Artest's suspension will be cut to 35 games. I think it will.

Its either Phil or he receives the paper edition of BA which sometimes has info faster than the website.

UNC defeats Tenn, plays a very good Iowa team tomorrow. Will be interesting to see if Pierce can play at 100% tomorrow, and if Iowa's big men can get Sean May in trouble. -

Let me try this again. Another very nice win for Iowa against Texas tonight, hopefully we will get to see a UNC-Iowa Maui final. -

Another great win for Iowa against Texas, but Pierce is hurt on the last play. I hope he's ok, here's to hoping for a Iowa-UNC final, and to Pierce being healthy. This is a win that the committee will look at towards the end of the season and be very impressed. Texas will be terrific by season's end. -
I have to disagree with them about Honel being on the list and how high Tracey is on the list.

You could argue UNC belonged on there the week of the Utah debacle, which was October 16th when they gave up 650+ yards in the game. The Miami game the next week completely turned everything in the program around. UNC accepted the Continental Tire Bowl invite today and is expected to face either West Virginia or UConn.
