Not just saying this because I'm a Steelers fan, because before this training camp I wasn't looking forward to this season. But after seeing how much the OLine has improved, and Chris Hope stepping up to help solidify the secondary, I gotta say the Steelers should make some noise. The questions will be on the right side of the line with Simmons going down and Deshea Townsend opposite of Chad Scott. But Townsend played very solid last year at the end of the season when he took over for Dewayne "Toast" Washington. So watch out for the Steelers as a sleeper.

Thats scary that Robby has a donut in over half his games. Well not scary, just sad. He's the Mike Jackson of the lineup.
-
Yeah I can see the hype. But if he really is 18, he's the best pitching prospect in a while. Found this from BA's Jim Callis. Jim Callis: As with Balentien, the Mariners have checked out Hernandez' birthdate (April 8, 1986) and believe it to be correct. As many of you might have guessed, he'll be the youngest player on our Top 100 Prospects list when it comes out. Many Latin pitchers sign at age 16 or 17. Pedro Martinez did and he pitched 86 innings in the Dominican Summer League at age 17, while Hernandez threw just 69 innings at that age last year. The Mariners are going to be as patient as they can with Hernandez, but if he keeps pitching like he did last year it's going to be hard to hold him back.
-
Just wait till BA gets their scouting report on Brandon, he will be at 95mph in no time.
-
With all the hype and his age, I can't see anyone getting the pick of Minor League POY over Felix Hernandez. BA has their lips firmly planted on his ass.
-
Yeah thats why I said this part. The committee needs to put together a team, instead of just putting the most talent and hype they can find.

lol through a little bit of research. "At Louisiana State, Kennison ran the 100 meters in 10.34 seconds" http://www.augustachronicle.com/stories/06...fastestman.html Here's a site with an annoying background, but great numbers. http://w1.196.telia.com/~u19603668/atb-m01.htm I was shocked to see Alvis Whitted at 10.07, he would be the fastest. Hershel Walker checks in around 10.24 also. Dieon is on it at the 10.26 range. I think Alvis was a track/receiver for the NC State wolfpack.
-
Amazingly they are about the same speed. Deion ran a 10.21 100M wind aided and a 10.34 non wind aided 100M at FSU. Kennison in 97 ran a 10.34 100M also. That would have been a good race. But Deion had the fastest 40 time ever in the combines at 4.21, so who knows really.

Crede seems too stubborn to me. As bad as he struggles, he never seems to change a thing. Everytime he's up there shallow flying to RF or getting fastballs blown by his swing with a hole in it. Both Borchard and Crede are two big guys that can't seem to understand their swings are too long, Walker is either blind to it or is going insane as they ignore him. Defensively, Crede is very solid, I think that coupled with that fact that Crede has had power all throughout his minor league career, we can get something decent for Crede as another team grabs him and hopes they can fix his swing and get a gem. I would put Uribe at 3B also, but that unfortunately might give Robby Alomar more playing time(shivers).

I'll put there numbers by each other just to see how they compare. Between low A, high A, AA 17-5 3.39 era, 165 innings pitched, 126 hits given up, 28 walks, 197 strikeouts. Only 19 years old Petit Between low A and high A 11-5 2.20 era 127.1 innings pitched, 74 hits given up, 36 walks, 184 strikeouts. I just learned Petit was apparently promoted to AA and is getting his first start today, we will see how that goes.

2004 College Football Prediction Thread

ACC Champ:Maryland(WHAT!!) Big East Champ:West Virginia Big 10 Champ:Michigan Big 12 Champ:Oklahoma Pac 10 Champ:USC SEC Champ:Georgia Conference USA Champ:TCU MAC Champ:Toledo Mountain West Champ:Utah Sun Belt Champ:North Texas WAC Champ:Fresno State I'm gonna pick the ACC standings, since thats what I'm a fan of. ACC Standings: Maryland FSU Miami Virginia Clemson VTU NC State UNC GT WF Duke I'm gonna go a little farther here. Heisman: RB Darren Sproles KState Bednarik: David Pollack DE Georgia (best defensive player) Belitnikoff: Craphonso Thorpe WR FSU (best receiver) Butkus: Derrick Johnson LB Texas (best linebacker) Walker: Darren Sproles RB KState (best runningback) Mackey: Heath Miller TE Virginia (best tightend) Maxwell: Matt Leinart QB USC (best player) Narugski: David Pollack DE Georgia (best defensive player) Thorpe: Antrell Rolle CB Miami (best defensive back) Orange Bowl Georgia over USC They had an amazing recruiting class last year, but yeah they will have some questions with young talented guys that will have to step up. I wouldn't be shocked if Virginia Tech gave them a very good game. -
Deon's 40 time used to be in the 4.1's, I don't doubt he can still run a 4.38 40. Darrell Green at age 40 or 41 ran in the 4.2's at the Redskins camp a few years ago. Sander's is quite possibly the fastest player in NFL history.

As many have said before, you don't even have to add Garnett, Shaq, or Kobe to this team for them to win. All you needed was a few more Michael Redd, Vince Carter, Ray Allen's to be able to knock down the outside shot consistently. Teams knew this entire tourney that they could pack the lane and play zone and that would neutralize out athletic advantages. Richard Jefferson was the leading 3 point shooter on the team and he was something like 75th overall in the NBA in shooting 3's. It was a very poor choice of a team, partially the invitation committee's fault, and partially the players that turned us down's fault.

Yeah I didn't mean Honel had been overworked, but in fact maybe the opposite. That he hadn't built up enough arm strength. His velocity fluxuated even before these latest incidents. He would hit 95 once in a while, then he would be back down in the 90-91 range. I can't figure him out.
-
What do you think it is?
-
Yep its a fine line they have to walk. Not enough arm strength can lead to Honel's situation. Too much work can lead to arm problems.
-
Yeah, but they still have to warm up and toss more to keep their arm active. I just don't want to hurt another good pitching prospect.
-
I'm not so sure thats a great idea. He's gonna throw 200 innings in all likelyhood this year, I don't want to put too much strain on his arm. But thats just my opinion.
-
By the way, from looking at the stats. BMac has won atleast 9 decisions in a row. 3-0 at AA, 6-0 at high A.
-
BMac's updated stats. 17-5 3.39 era, 165 innings pitched, 126 hits given up, 28 walks, 197 strikeouts. If BMac finishes out the year pitching like this. There is no reason for him not to get a shot at AAA to start next year. He's dominated everywhere he's been and it seems like he's getting better the higher he goes. I know we don't want to rush guys, but with him, I don't think its rushing.
-
2 walks? Whats wrong with him?
-
I've got another question for anyone. What is Brandon's strikeout pitch? Fastball? Curve? Is it his control?
-
Thanks alot Randar, by the way, welcome to the boards. You know alot about the Barons and thats a big asset to this board.
-
Is he still in? If not does anyone have a guess on his stats?
