  1. I would love to see Flowers and his .920 OPS and .440 OBP up with the Sox very soon, but I don't know where AJ is going to go. The only team I noticed right off the bat that might want AJ would be Milwaukee because of Jason Kendall's struggles.
  2. Nice ESPNInsider article from Chad Ford, a guy not typically sipping on UNC koolaid.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) He's vanilla in everything about his game regardless of his skin color. His upside is as a bench role player, I dont know who in the hell would waste a top 5 pick on that. Tyler is at the very least a slightly taller, better shooting version of Udonis Haslem. He shouldn't be considered a top 5 pick, but he's a guy that could start next to a dominant center like Dwight Howard and be a nice contributor or come off the bench as an energy guy.
  4. Booh, Beckham pops out to first.
  5. Beckham 3-3 with 2 doubles now.
  6. Viciedo also 1-1 and has his average up to .279 after the horrendous start.
  7. http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-...***=&sort=8 Athletic results for the draft class. Wayne Ellington much more athletic than Gerald Henderson, NICE. Hansbrough very close to Griffin athletically, but Griffin is a beast all-around. Austin Daye embarassing.
  8. Our scouts really knew how to select them in the 1st round huh? Anderson, Borchard, Fields etc all just have no idea of the strike zone and a nice hole in their swing.
  9. lol at that "base hit". Fields is stellar all-around now.
  10. http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/ UNC guys fared well. Hansbrough 6'9 1/2 in shoes, Ellington over 6'5 in shoes, Lawson over 6' in shoes, Green over 6'6 in shoes. D'Juan Blair checked in at 6'6 and 270, nice.
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 29, 2009 -> 01:11 PM) So the publicity is worth 0? The gate to the sporting events are worth 0? The donations from boosters are worth0? The donations from alumni are worth 0? The school and NCAA makes millions off of these players, which is why they dont care about "rules". Most of these kids are on scholarship simply to "entertain" the masses that attend the sporting events. To put it in perspective, the minor league guys in our system are probably getting about 40k a season to entertain the masses. These student athletes are getting at least 50k and in some cases over 100k in scholarship money and other various benefits that aren't for the normal student. The NBDL guys are getting what 40k for the good players? It's not like these kids aren't getting lots of exposure on ESPN, CBS all the time and in college gameday's etc. Nobody is forcing these kids to go to college, college isn't for everyone, but guys like Calipari disregard this fact. They bend and break the rules so that they can win more games, guys like Calipari are pro coaches that are given the leverage by college admins to have a pro atmosphere in the college ranks. The kids that do choose to accept an athletic scholarship in college have the opportunity to major in something easier if they choose and focus most of their time on the athletic side of the scholarship. This is a gamble that they will play in a professional league, but otherwise they could at least have A college degree in something. Other kids realize they are likely not going to be a professional athlete and can choose a more difficult major to help them set up for after their college days.
  12. I'm not going to get too deep into this, but I can tell you that Mike Leach and Pat Knight both make their players go to class, study, or be kicked off the team. These guys take the academic side even more serious than the athletic side. Tech's two starting DE's this year were both kicked off the team for lack of academic progress. As for the money these players are making for their school. In the end it just about balances out. 85 roster players in football, 50k scholarships = 4.25M. If the school is lucky, 10 of the guys on scholarship currently will play in the NFL and possibly give back to the school in publicity and/or monetary donations. That's in essence what a scholarship is, the school taking a chance on an athlete or academian in hopes that they will be successful in life and give back to the school in reputation or monetary increases. Kids like Rose that have no business being in college shouldn't be getting offers from these garbage coaches like Calipari, but at this point there's nothing much you can do about it until the NCAA steps in. Rose should not have been accepted into a college, and shouldn't have been sitting in classrooms with legitimate students that earned or payed their way into the college. You have to put most of the blame with a garbage coach like Calipari, but some blame has to reside with the kid himself. He could have been earning his money in the NBDL or overseas, instead he chose to take his money from a college and garbage coach.
  13. Looks really good. Let me know if you guys want to use any Flash on it, ie for the banner rotator etc. I just finished a banner rotator that is completely customizable through an XML file, http://www.congertemplates.com/banner/bannerCS4.html The control panel etc can be turned on and off through the XML file. I think it would look good with baseball stuff on it.
  14. NCAA apparently informed Kentucky that Calipari isn't in any trouble. The NCAA is such a f***ing joke. Dumbass has been caught at two different programs so far and escaped unscathed. Yeah I bet he's going to learn his lesson yet again.
  15. Another heroic effort from the offense, sleep tight Greg Walker.
  16. Looks like we have ourselves an epic battle with Seattle going for the least amount of runs scored in the AL. Currently... Sox: 189 Seattle: 186 How exciting.
  17. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/...s-basketball-p/ Shocker.
  18. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Mike Trout is who he has the Sox selecting, also does not have Donovan Tate being drafted in the first round. Keith Law is pretty clueless though, thats why he does this job instead of working in baseball still. I dont see the Sox taking a high school player in the first round unless it is someone like Tate where the talent level is elite. I think the Sox will look at Brett Jackson from Cal, above average fielder, his speed is his top tool, projects as an average hitter in the majors. Pollock going 16th to the D-backs and Brothers going 18th to the Marlins. Tate is questionable on being drafted really high because he's a Boras client and UNC football/baseball commit and Boras LOVES UNC, so Tate will be a pretty difficult sign. But he's an amazing talent in CF and as a safety.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) Essentially they are talking about a Quentin type hitter for Cain? LOL. I don't know if Quentin by himself would be enough for Cain. But I would also NOT like to see Cain's flyball style pitching inside the cell and it costing us Quentin or some combination of our Birmingham guys.
  20. I despise watching Corky play baseball, it's just atrocious.
  21. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:14 PM) Are we facing the 3rd member of the rangers vaunted dvd pitching prospects, diamond, or is that a different one. either way im glad we got the good d from them I wondered the same earlier, but it's a different one.
