Hes worth what he is worth, hes worth what others like him are getting. If some team cough cough tigers wants to extremely overpaythen goodbye. KW knows what hes worth and will do whats best for the team. Paulie is simply not worth 6-7 years @ 80-100 mil. Hes not vlad, arod, ajones, etc. Hes worth garett andersen type money, 4/48. If someone wants to go maggs on him then goodbye.

QUOTE(dreamrio @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) Damn, I wish they had this years ago! I could have gone to so many more games as a kid, there's a rock island line stop about a 5 minute walk away from my parents' place. This is wonderful for the sox. I can just imagine all the families taking the train to see the games. Just think of the fan base this stop will develop Just one more incentive to move back home with the folks... Yeah plus you can drink and not worry about the driving. One would be able to relish in the local bars or hang at the bullpen bar after the game and not have to worry about driving home, just get on the train, AWSOME!!!

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) If we stand pat, we get passed. Next year will be different then this year. Agreed. Plus when guys have career years, they dont call them career years for no reason. THEY ONLY HAPPEN ONCE. We need to shore up our weaknesses and add to our strengths, thats how winning teams keep winning. You see a player out there to add to the pen go for it. You find a better avg and obp guy to plug into the DH spot go for it. Paulie is too expensive and you can get equal if not better production out of someone else, go for it.

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) As long as this is a "wish" list, Hideki Matsui would be a nice upgrade over Carl. If not, Carl is a free agent now... Also, if Ozzie really wants to move Iguchi to the middle of the order, we could use a good number two hitter. Furcal would fit the bill with Iguchi moving to DH, but he may be too overpriced which might knock the whole team payroll/team chemistry out of whack. None of that is going to happen. We only have 2 holes to fill, DH and potential 1B. Both postions which need to filled with equal or greater production from a year ago. Iguchi will not be taken from his 2b position. I think Iguchi was trying to hit way too much for power and pull the ball this offseason and thats why he became way less productive than he used to. We need him as that #2 hitter. The real question is what do we do with Anderson/Borchard now, there is no place for them at AAA, but they need AB's. If Konerko and Thomas come back we have no holes, except for bench, If one or both dont we need to possible trade one or both of them to get guys like I mentioned before; Hillenbrand, Overbay, Tracy, Huff, Gibbons, etc. I think the ideal situation would be keeping Konerko, a boneified 40 hr guy with a very good OBP, and picking up another guy to fill carl's void but with a higher Avg, OBP, and speed. Once again, one of the above mentioned should be good enough. AND WE HAVE MONEY TO SPEND!!! Pods Iguchi Dye Konerko Overbay/Hillenbrand/Tracy/Gibbons Rowand AJ Crede Uribe
-
Umm Jeff Blum hes a FA. I want him back ask the ultimate utility man. Other than that maybe Scott Hatteberg or Erubiel Durazo to fill in at DH, but i want paulie as my 1B. From Trades I would love one of these types,; Huff, Overbay, Hillenbrand, Tracy. They are all young with a hell of a lot of positive.

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) My english teacher gave me a C about my narrative story about the thrill of watching the white sox this year saying, "You needed to choose a topic that really shows who you are" You teach is obviously a women (no offense) and doesn't feel or appreaciate the emotional ride and sometimes attachement we feel to our sports teams. I did a powerpoint Presentation on US Celluar Field and the rennovations for my Technical Writing class and got an A, the teacher said her husband's company are sox season ticket holders and she was interested in seeing my presentation becuase she knew they were renovated it and wanted to see how it went. I guess it all depends on your teacher.

And your AL Playoff, Steroid using Outfielder is..

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) but he was an AL Playoff team outfielder... What he wasn't even on the Yanks playoff roster. What a dumb rumor and suspense builder, he didn't even play. -
Wow that is awsome news for us in the SOuth and SW burbs. Ya know Bruce Levine said something about this the other day. He was saying that the sox here have an oppurtunity to reach out and establish a loyal long lasting fanbase in the expaninding, financially sound, and up and coming areas in the South and SW burbs. This will be the core of the suburban fanbase; Orland, Tinley, Palos, Joliet, Frankfort, New Lenox, Mokena, etc. Its even good for me and other Homewood-Flossmoor people, tinley station is only like a 15 min drive and it will cost like $6 to ride the train vs. $17 to park. This makes the whole ordeal a lot easier on the wallets.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) if they are going to sign Frank to anything, it has got to be a low base, high incentive laden deal. And that is if they can't find a younger #3 hitter to join the team after resigning Konerko. If we dont resign Paulie we need another 1st baseman, a younger one, preferabily a lefty. If Frank DH's and we replace Paulie with Chad Tracy, Shea Hillenbrand, or Lyle Overbay Id be pretty happy. I dont want to become the Yanks here with a bunch of aging hitter that did great things for us in the past. If we dont resign either I still want at least one of the above mentioned players, but to fill two starting positions in the offseason kinda sucks. I dont want our lineup to be Frank and Paulie less and replaced with Andersen/other call up. I think we are trying to build on championship here, we need some young established players as well, I mean like an Aubry Huff or Overbay, not Andersen/Borchard.

QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) Hunter winning is absolute bulls*** Your are right that is the biggest joke I have ever seen. Obviously whoever votes didn't even slightly do their homework. Not only did Hunter only play 93 games, but he didn't even have the highest Fielding % at his position in those games, had a .987%, ROWAND HAD A .992%. What a disrespectful slap in the face and sox fans, rowand, ozzie, and the sox brass should take it personal.

QUOTE(HoosierSox @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) I know this is an old topic but I thought they were supposed to be putting green seats in and they were going to be ready for opening day 2006. Anybody know anything about this. Can someone like go into photoshop or something with a pic the cell and edit the seat color to from blue to forest green. Ah crap ill give it a shot.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) Hillenbrand walked only 26 times. If you are talking bout for the bench, he is a pricey and impatient bench player. That is not a good combination. I don't think he would be a good DH, I think the DH should be a better overall hitter that will walk, like Erubiel Durazo. I was also thinking about Durazo, he could be had for about 5 mil. He had a great 2004, he hit .321 hit 22 hrs and drove in 88 rbi. In 2003 he only hit .259, which type of hitter is he??? Hatteberg might be another option, he also had a good 2004, he hit .284 with 15hrs and 82 rbi. But he also posted BA's of .250 or so in 2003 and 2005, again which hitter are you getting.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 06:29 PM) Toronto has a bevy of 1b/3b guys. I could see it happening, and it wouldn't cost much. However, if we were to lose Konerko(which you don't assume in your post), we'd need a higher impact player than him. Oh yeah, prepare to get flamed away for suggesting we make any sort of move at all. Something about MVP baseball will be thrown in there as well. Yeah im not suggesting we replace konerko with Hillenbrand. I just think he would make a viable Everett replacement with his BA close to .300 and the ability to still hit 20+ hrs and drive in 80+ runs.
-
I think Hillenbrand is someone that would be perfect for the sox. Im not suggesting he replace Paulie or Crede, he plays 1B and 3B. First off I want Paulie back, however not at a value hes not worth. I wouldn't pay over 12 mil for him, hes no Vlad. With Everett's option declined and Thomas likely not back Hillenbrand could be DH or play 1st if need be. Hillenbrand made 3.87 mil last year on a 1 year deal, he is not a FA yet becuase he hasn't reached 6 years of playing time, we would have to make a trade. Last year he hit .290 with 18 hrs and 82 rbi. The last two years he is averaging a BA of .300, 16.5 hrs, and 81 rbi. Id say hes a lock for 20-25 hrs at the cell and its cozy left field dimensions. Id say hes worth between 4-5 mil. Id be happy with a 2 year deal between 9-10 mil with an option for a 3rd. I also think hed make a perfect 5 or 6 hitter, a very rowand like hitter. LF - Pods 2B - Iguchi RF - Dye 1B - Konerko DH - Hillenbrand CF - Rowand C - AJ 3B - Crede SS - Uribe

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) 2006 Contracts Freddy Garcia $10mil Jose Contreras $7.0mil Mark Buehrle $7.75mil Jermaine Dye $5.0 mil El Duque $4.5 mil Tad Iguchi $2.4 mil Juan Uribe $3.15 mil Rowand $3.25 mil Hermanson $3.0 mil Marte $2.25 mil Politte $1.2 mil Podsednik $1.9 mil Grand Total of $51.4 mil in guaranteed contracts Arbitration Eliglble Players and 2005 salary - Estimated 2006 Salary Garland ($3.4 mil) - ($8 mil) Pierzynski ($2.25 mil) - ($4 mil) Vizcaino ($1.3 mil) - ($1.75 mil) Timo! ($1.0 mil) - ($1.25 mil) Crede ($0.4 mil) - ($2.5 mil) Harris ($0.365 mil) - ($.775 mil) Ozuna ($0.330 mil) - ($1 mil) It's hard to say what these guys will get in 2006, and the Sox could end up releasing some of these players. An interesting side note is that the Salary arbitration hearings are set for Feb. 1st-21st, which means if the Sox wait on too many of these players it could hamper them in either resigning Konerko or going after another free agent. Overall it will cost approximately $19.275 mil to keep these players Option eligible players: Frank Thomas has a club option of $12 mil or a $3.5 mil buyout Carl Everett has a club option of $5 mil or a $0.5 mil buyout My guess is that the Sox will buyout both these players, and will first offer Big Frank a low $1.0 mil base salary with incentives. If he refuses their offer they may try to bring back Carl at a lower price also. It is highly unlikely they will keep both of these players. So 4 million to buyout Frank and Carl, plus 1 million to bring back either/or. players under club's control Neal Cotts ($0.33 mil) I am not entirely sure what this status indicates. It may have something in regards to being arbitration eligible next year. Players likely to be on or considered for the roster RP Jeff Bajenaru SP Brandon McCarthy RP Either Arnie Munoz or Felix Diaz or Jon Adkins (possible long reliever replacement) 1B/DH/LF Ross Gload OF Brian Anderson OF Joe Borchard All of which are at or around the major league min of $330,000 Other Potential Minor Leaguers who could make an impact in 2006 Jorge Toca 1B R/R Josh Stewart SP LHP Dave Sanders RP LHP Ryan Sweeny OF Jerry Owens OF Dan Haiglewood SP Leo Daigle 1B (not really but we can all dream ) Noah Hall 1B Gio Gonzalez SP LHP So.... 51.4 million in guaranteed contracts plus 19.275 millions in estimated arbitration eligible contracts plus 4 million in Thomas/Everett buyouts plus 1 million for a 2006 DH plus 330,000 for Cotts that's already 76 million in guaranteed contracts. The real question is....is will the White Sox go to 90-91 million in total payroll. It will probably not cost more than 14 million to get Konerko. What do you think? Garcia is going to make 9 mil this year not 10 and contreras is going to make 8 mil in 2006.

One name to keep in mind if konerko goes is Shea Hillenbrand, up and comer he is.

Could be worse

Lets look at some figures here. When the season started we had about 9500 season ticket holders, by the start of the playoffs about 12,000. At the start of the world series we climbed to about 14,000-14,500. And if you are wondering where i got these #'s i got them from ESPN 1000 and Bruce Levine. So we drew about 1.9 mil in 2004 and that equated to a starting payroll of 75 mil this year in 2005, in which we drew 2.4 mil fans. Now lets make an educated sox fan forecast. Lets say our season ticket base going in this year is at starting between 12-14.5K fans. Now lets add to that for the world series factor, I know my family bought season tix already for 06. A # bruce threw out was an extra 5000 season ticket holders. So lets say about 18,000 season tickets for 2006. Thats about double what it was at the start of 2005, VERY GOOD. The sox averaged about 29,500 fans with a 2005 season ticket base at the end of the regular season of about 12-12.5 K fans. By using a simple linear porportion we can find what we would expect in terms of payroll and total attendance from our educated guesses. (1.9 mil fans in 2004 / 75 mil payroll in 2005) = (2.4 Mil Fans in 2005 / X payroll in 2006). This projects about a 94.7 Mil payroll for 2006. Lets do avg attendance, (29,500 avg in 2005 / 14K season tix base in 05) = (X Avg in 06 / 18K season tix base in 06). We get about 37,900 avg attendance in 06. Basically all my numbers will only come true also based on a 99-63 record as well becuase thats the drivin g factor behind the total numbers. So if we are to finish lower than that next year (very logical) expect mynumbers to be a little to high, at least its a ballpark estimate though. Yeah Im in engineering school so what, I know were different!!

Boy when Paulie gave that ball to Jerry it all sunk in, not just for Jerry but for me too. I saw Jerry was getting very emotional and choked up and understandiby so. When i saw it all i felt what he felt and got all choked up myself, I know I cant be the only one. At the moment I realized the class and family like feeling you get from being a part of this organization, from fans to players, media to executives, this team is a family. Im so happy to be who we are, not a national following, not a trendy story, not a team owned by a giant (media) corp with no face. When i see a sox fan on the street or at a bar we are friends, brothers, part of the family. This is the best CHAMPIONSHIP EVER and I LOVE THE WHITE SOX FAMILY!!!

QUOTE(Purdue1906 @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) Sounded like the fans didnt want to hear anything that corporate blowhole had to say, and I can't blame them, people want to hear the players, not some shirt who watches every game from his suite. The crowd was chanting we cant hear cuz the PA speakers weren't working then. Not booing them.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) At Illinois.. When we were done celebrating here (15 mins after game ended maybe) we ran down to Green St, which is the street with all the bars and restaurants on it. There were cop cars everywhere, and there was a huge mob at the corner of 6th and Green. Lots of chants, lots of jumping, etc. Shortly after the mob moved to the Alma Mater...people climbed it and stuff, and there were more chants. Then the mob moved to the Quad for a bit. I hit up the bars after partying with the mass and there were Sox fans everywhere. Many of them were obviously bandwagon jumpers, but for one night, i just didn't care. It was cool to see such energy and spirit after they won. To my knowledge there wasn't any violence...i mean i'm sure there was something somewhere...but i didn't see the mass do anything stupid, which i was a big fan of. I even made a point to high five a bunch of cops, lol. Only downer was that i feel like crap from running around in the cold while being soaked in champagne and beer. Also, i sprained my ankle badly sprinting down Green St somehow, and i can't do much but limp around the apartment. Oh well, Rally Crede will heal me. Memories are fun huh!!

The scene was pretty good last night today. If anyone is familiar with the bars here the three main bars were pretty packed with sox fans. A could few dozen at Jakes and Harry's and probably about 100 at Where Else. The bars played all our great songs, Joruney, Na Na Na, We are the Champions, Thunderstruck, etc. It was amazing. There were multiple times during the night that us Sox fan got together and got the rallies going; World Champs, Lets Go Sox, White Sox White Sox, Cubs Suck, the toasting just went on and on. The best part about the whole thing is being able to share your joy and excitment with fellow sox fans who have waited as long as you. The campus paper "The Exponent" cover page and lead story is the white sox world series and how sweet it is. There was an article in the paper that said all the local hat and sports clothing stores are sold out of sox gear. Lids and HatWorld have no more hats and the owners were quoted as saying this is the highest demand for mecrhandise they have ever seen, higher than the cubs in 03. How sweet this all is, even 120 miles away from home!!
