  1. Eaton might not be all that good. He doesn't hit the ball very hard.
  2. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 06:05 PM) You can strengthen ligaments. You do this by putting stress on it in a direction consistent with the fiber of collagen. ACL protocol are designed to slowly add stress to the ligament so it responds by aligning and adding collagen due to the stress. This can be done manually for the UCL or light throwing. Everything else in the article is dead on. You need to have the overall conditioning and balance so there isn't too much force focused on any one area, whether it be the hip, knee or elbow. What, if anything, concerns you about Rodon's training, physique, or mechanics? Too me, his follow through stops too abruptly which would seem to put more stress on the arm.
  3. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) I personally do not want to see an OF with both Eaton and M. Johnson. I think for sure, 2 of Davidson, Gillaspie, Semien, Sanchez, Johnson, Beckham, Ramirez are dealt by next season. If we fall out of contention by say mid-July, it's very possible that we deal either Beckham or Ramirez. Maybe when Polanco comes up for the Pirates, he can light a spark under the rest of the team and have them play into contention causing them to want to make a deal to improve a weak position (shortstop). I don't really see many current contending teams that need a shortstop. Edit: also, with possibly having 4 lefties in the rotation next season, maybe we can package Danks and an infielder somewhere in the off-season (I remember reading a few weeks back that AA said that if he was to upgrade Toronto, it would be with a SP or 2B) The keys for me are SS and CF. If Sanchez can handle SS and get on base at a good rate, they are going to need more power out of CF or 3B. Do they take a chance on Rasmus for CF or Headly for third? BTW, Viciedo's time with the Sox should just about be up. Trade chips would be Ramirez, Gillaspie, Beckham, Viciedo, and De Aza.
  4. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 01:48 PM) Jackson? Yeah, I screw up the guy's name all the time, either Alan Jackson or Alex Johnson.
  5. Heard from someone in the know that the the Sox likely would have taken Alex Jackson (similar to what Bucket was saying draft night) if Rodon was gone . Some Sox people think he'll put up better career numbers than Bryce Harper.
  6. I'm having a difficult time seeing Eaton in the team's future plans. He's not a natural CF'er and he isn't getting on base enough to make up for it. If they replace Ramirez with Sanchez they are going to need more production out of the OF.
  7. Greinke and Hamilton would look good in Sox uniforms . . .
  8. Looks like Boras in the blue shirt behind home plate. Hahn should dispense Herm Schneider with a $6.2M offer for Rodon and get the dance over with.
  9. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 05:46 PM) Why "especially at the cell"? Can't you make the same argument for hitting? I think the Cell is as tough on a pitching staff in the summer as Texas and Yankee Stadium and I don't believe there is such a thing as too much pitching. If some offense has to get sacrificed in the process of putting together the best starting rotation in the league I can live with that.
  10. If Rodon lives up to expectations as a top-of-the-rotation starter the Sox will have tremendous flexibility going forward. I'm in the camp that you never have enough (starting) pitching, especially at the Cell, so I would look to add a frontline starter via free agency. Figuring out the the middle of the diamond is the next step. I think a Semien, Sanchez, and Johnson at 2B, SS, and CF is an intriguing alignment, but they'd have to upgrade the power at third.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 02:41 PM) Rodon and Adams sign 6 weeks from today or sooner? What say you? Rodon 11th hour. Adams the day before.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 12:06 PM) For a top 3 pick, it's a little disappointing not to have heard a word from Rodon himself yet. What's the deadline for picks to sign? My guess is the deal doesn't get done to the 11th hour.
  13. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 12:03 PM) There is plenty of talent left despite who the Sox grab. Also, who cares? The Sox aren't drafting to stifle the Cubs. It's a nice unintended consequence though.
  14. Harold Reynolds and John Hart are a deadly combination.
  15. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 06:35 PM) Man, Schwarber looks like he's gonna be a really fat dude whenever he stops playing baseball. Overdraft by the Cubs . . . I'll put that date summer of 2017.
  16. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 04:27 PM) Maybe this...? Houston takes Aiken, Miami takes Rodon and the Sox say screw Nola/ Kolek and draft Jackson. Sox go with Trea Turner ;-)
  17. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:55 PM) Would you want a 10% shot at drafting and developing an ace or a 80% shot at drafting a #3? I'm those types of conversations are occurring in war rooms right now, possible ours. Get me an ace. A moneyed team like the Sox can buy a #3
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:52 PM) So why? His main draw his his polish and "knowing how to pitch". Good 93-94 fastball, tops out at 97. 4 pitches for strikes. Just because he is 3 inches taller? Lefty? What is the reason why Nola is trash in your book but Aiken is a high reward guy? I'm not fond of Nola's arm slot, not a stretch to see him having trouble getting lefties out.
  19. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) If Aiken and Rodon are off the board do you prefer Kolek, Nola or Jackson? I'd probably go with Jackson at that point. The highest rated position player in any given draft is almost always at least a MLB player. Hoffman well under slot an option?
  20. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) He was a MiLB FA before he was a top MLB starter. Nola is NOT a sure thing. Anything but. Obviously if the Sox had a crystal ball things would be different. All they have is Buddy Bell, turn him over and shake him. That could only help.
  21. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:44 PM) The number 3 pick is a top 5 pitcher? Your perception is all wrong. There isn't a team in the league that wouldn't draft a sure thing at #3. Quintana is a #2 type pitcher. If you can get a potential ace for $5M you take the chance over a "sure" #2-3.
  22. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 02:38 PM) Good, let them do something silly and Rodon falls to us. If Loria is meddling that likely means Marlins take Rodon.
  23. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 01:39 PM) Really, you still can if you work it out ahead of the draft. The Sox could call up Hoffman and say "We see that chances are you end up with the BJ's at #11. If you agree to #9 slot money we will draft you at #3 and you will make so extra $$." If he says no you move on, if he says yes you save $2.8M that you can spread out through the rest of the draft, plus you get the guy you really wanted anyway. Obviously you need to have a deal in place before the draft, but it is feasible. If the Sox could get get Hoffman, Weaver, and then someone like Keller or Mac Marshall that would fill up a lot of holes in the orgs vacuum of top level pitching prospects. Not the "safe" thing to do, but since the draft is a gamble anyway, I wouldn't be against this approach. Wouldn't hate this if Rodon and Aiken are gone, but talk about a roll of the dice.
