  1. I haven't read the ENTIRE thread so I don't know if the answer is in there somewhere but here's my question... Does anyone know what North Korea ultimately WANTS? Do they want to rule the world? Cuz that ain't happening. Do they want to be accepted as a major power? Cuz that ain't happening either. Or do they just want the entire Korean peninsula? Cuz that ain't happening either.
  2. I was at the game last night...unfortunately I missed the catch and the homer live as I was up in the Fundamentals deck with my kids (who were praised by all the coaches for their fundamentals, so there's that). Still, saw the replay of the catch on the big board. Amazing. The atmosphere at the park was really weird. Quiet. Like real quiet. I was expecting big ovations for, well, almost everyone. But nope. This is a team that jumped all over a Cy Young contender. Forget pitching, that's what's going to do this team in for the rest of the season (except Rodon and hopefully Lopez). But as long as Holland, Shields and Gonzalez are in there, I expect the team to be shellacked a lot. And that's ok, but if they make the games fun by fighting for every run. By improving every game. By doing the little things. By having fun on the field, as hard as that is when you are losing...that's all we can ask for. That's what I saw last night. And it was nice to get a win, even if they are overmatched.
  3. There is no good solution to this. This is a weak man, who wants to be noticed and will do anything to do it. He has brainwashed his people and been brainwashed by his father/grandfather. They are crying out to be noticed. The problem with that is...if you don't pay attention, then you never know what they are going to do. You can't elevate him to the position in the world where he thinks he is, for many reasons, but you also can't ignore him. So what do you do? I sort of agree with Greg (yikes), the US has to go to China to discuss. Not to take him out, not to invade, but to discuss options. Then they can go from there. Unfortunately, and I also agree with Greg, that Trump is not the guy to do this. Not sure who I would send. Tillerson is the guy who should go, but I wouldn't send him. Maybe a third party that is more rational. Someone the GOP can trust but isn't a Trump-protege. Honestly, I have no idea who that would be.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 01:34 PM) So U.S. blasts China over not stopping North Korea's bulls***. North Korea says it can and will attack the US. US says we will sanction Russia and North Korea and China. More importantly, after North Korea's latest threats to attack us ... This from CNN: Continuing another trend, the US on Saturday sent two B-1 bombers from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam on a 10-hour round trip over the Korean Peninsula in what the US Pacific Air Forces called a direct response to the North Korean missile test. The B-1s teamed up with Japanese and South Korean fighter jets to test "combined capabilities" during the mission, the US military said in a statement. Folks we are going to wake up one morning to something pretty radical. I wouldn't discount us dropping some bombs on their leader's headquarters trying to kill him. I can see Trump's reasoning. They flat out are saying they are going to nuke us. We HAVE to protect ourselves and kill him first. I would prefer issuing a warning to Kim Jong-Un and say next missile test, you can expect immediate retaliation in the form of immediate violence of some king. It's all up to you. This is heading toward conflict, folks, severe military contact. And I don't like what I've heard about China's Army. The minute they decide to come on over and attack our mainland, I'm not liking that at all. Alright Greg, stop scaring the children.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 05:29 PM) Senator flake with some strong words on Trump, Republican denial https://t.co/dGH9j8F1kR Yet voted for skinny repeal.
  6. ESPN takes the most fees per cable subscriber...more than HBO, Showtime, etc. $7 per subscriber. That's a TON! My guess is the cable companies are starting to squeeze them a bit. Just an FYI.
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 3, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) Yeah a guy from an "industrial home territory" will never be able to connect with the Rust Belt like a NY skyscraper living real estate mogul did. How about they just come up with the best candidate instead of picking one based on ethic background or genitalalia? I am thinking we need a trans president. Nevermind whether the individual is qualified the country is ready for it. Plus, there's the added benefit of being able to call every person who prefers the other candidate transphobic. Trump was not the best candidate. Not by a longshot. Until people can actually determine who the best candidate is, those factors have to be included. Not based on, but included in the discussion.
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) It doesn't matter to the story that she does porn so to speak but I found it when it was reading up on her and it gives some insight on her character at the least. She didn't quote the movie. Yes, she used terminology they used in the movie but I am not sure it matters either way. Would someone be excused for inciting and threatening violence on social media if they used an American History X quote to express their intentions? For some reason I don't think you'd defend that individual. Regardless, she posted what she was doing that day and how she felt. She was going to the rally, she wanted to take home mass amounts of scalp of people she disagreed with and she was nervous because she was cognizant of the violence that these left wing rallies tend to bring to the people there and the surrounding community. As far as her saying she was going to get 100 nazi scalps, I am surprised there aren't more people calling her a murderer. Trump was called a rapist for saying he could grab girls by the p****. Well then, you could say that about pretty much everyone currently in office, starting with POTUS. All of this tweets through the years, what he has said, what he has been sued for, what he has been accused of...sure gives me a lot more insight into his character. Sorry for the tangent...but you can't play both sides of the coin.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 12:30 AM) Who cares if people are inconvenienced? We should go one at a time into all bathrooms even in stadiums. The liberal agenda wants to help out those people who identify as females but still have male body parts and want to go into the female bathroom. Fine. One at a time in all bathrooms. If it inconveniences anybody too bad. We have to cater to all people so the bathrooms must be reconstructed NOW. RIGHT! Because as someone who really doesn't give a damn about who is in the bathroom when I am, I don't care if you are inconvenienced.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 08:57 AM) Oak Park's props passed. Only one of my preferred school board candidates won a seat for both boards. April local elections are all about turnout. the MLS bonds for St Louis I guess failed ultimately? One passed one failed, was to build a stadium to move MLS there. I think a lot of people that voted yes in OP were the holdovers for the D200 pool referendum that lost. Yes, there was a lot of doomsday talk, but at the end of the day, school population is not something that can be ignored. (of course, the district is going to get a ton more money from all the new condo's going up downtown that they neglected to mention, but...)
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 05:13 PM) What about a coach of the girls' hs volleyball team being a lesbian, the wrestling or football coach a pedophile or gay man? How can you protect them then? Isn't it much more likely something might happen in a shared shower than a public bathroom? Do we have any examples of all these bathroom assaults going on to point to? What about changing rooms in clothing stores (the ones not yet wiped out by Amazon.com)? Couldn't they be just as alluring for attackers? You can ask Penn State. I think they might have an example or lots. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 11:41 PM) Yeah this all could happen. I just don't understand why the bathroom thing is such a big deal. in my proposal, we only have private bathrooms where one goes in at a time. This way a person who is dressed as a woman but has not yet had the surgery and is still legally a man will have the same rights as I do. This is the only way to go IMO. Why do we have bathrooms for genders? We must change it all asap because like I said many are not in favor of allowing males who identify as being female as being allowed in the women's bathroom while still legally a male. Because where do you put all of these bathrooms in large spaces like concert halls or movie theaters or sports stadiums. Here's another thought: if you have bathrooms open to all, then there are more people in them preventing less attacks because of the constant traffic. OR, if a woman or someone is being attacked, there's less of a stigma of "going into the (opposite sex) bathroom" to help. Just because there are separate bathrooms doesn't mean that stuff you have been talking about doesn't happen, by the way. If you don't like it, fine. That's your preference. You can go search out the family bathrooms, which are usually one person, and then get nasty looks from a mom of a 6 month old leaking out their diaper.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) So the rumor was Walker sold himself as being tied to Tilmon and Smith. Have to wonder if his status gets evaluated if he doesn't get some kids on campus this year. This is a bad look for Tilmon. He just retweeted his commitment and now wants out of his NLI. He's young, so I feel bad for him, but to me, this is just re-opening his recruitment. Hopefully the Illini end up with him anyway. (even though that doesn't happen too often)
  13. Brett. This is from an article on The Hill. The Supreme Court would probably slow play this, Gorsuch or not. "It is impossible to predict what the Supreme Court will do, but in recent, controversial matters, the court has proceeded slowly. It was more than six years after the establishment of the Guantanamo Bay detention camps that the Supreme Court ruled on the habeas corpus rights of persons detained there."
  14. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 7, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) I agree and they seem like good guys that I should want to listen to. I really tried to want myself to like them. There are times I yell at my radio, "Mully! Shut! UP!" His interviews for radio are horrifyingly bad. He can't just ask a question, he has to go on a diatribe about god knows what. And he cuts off Hanley all the time. Not good. As for Spiegel and Parkins...it's not working. They don't have the chemistry. What I like about Spiegel is, he's real. You can hear it in his voice. I can hear his disdain with Parkins. Did anyone hear Parkins interview with Dan Pompei? It was about TO not making it into the Hall of Fame. Parkins was pressing Pompei on the reasons why. I thought Pompei answered to the best of his ability, without jeopardizing the integrity of the room of voters making the decision or calling out anyone in particular. Parkins kept pestering him not liking the answer. And after the interview really kind of gave it to Pompei about not answering to his liking. This is a 30 year old newbie calling out a HoF sports writer less than a month into his new gig. It really put me off as a listener. Parkins has a little shock jock in him, and I don't think that plays well with Spiegs or with Chicago.
  15. Frank Pellegrino, 72 Played FBI Chief Frank Cubitoso on the Sopranos. RIP
  16. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) The more I think about it, the more I think this is the right result (subject to the future nominee having the resume to actually serve on the Supreme Court - Gorsuch does have that). We can't have every single SCOTUS position filibustered forever, but the Dems caving is basically letting the Rs steal the seat. The Dems can filibuster the nominee for at least the next two years, and the unbalanced bench honestly helps D policies. The Republicans created this crisis, and it needs to be fixed. Thinking out loud, but I wonder if there will be some behind the scenes negotiating - rumors that Kennedy has been talking retirement, maybe he agrees to retire on the condition that Garland takes his seat, and Gorsuch takes Scalia's seat, and then we all pray that RBG holds on for another 4 years... The current president has called into question the results of the popular vote of the election. Until that is verified, and all issues signed off on, whether it be Russian involvement, emoluments, etc. Gorsuch or Garland or anyone shouldn't go through confirmation. As was said before, the GOP opened this can of worms. They need to gather said worms and cap that can before we can move forward.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 02:36 PM) Give it another try today and it was simply awful. I do love Goff and Bernstein though There doesn't seem to be a lot of chemistry there.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 07:57 AM) My taxes in oak park are 400% higher than what they were in the city of Chicago. Your friends have no idea what they are talking about. Yes but those taxes are palpable. So, it's a little easier to take. How do I know? I live here too! Quick story. We forgot to close our garage door and our car was broken into. We called the police to file a report. They said someone would be out within the hour. 10 minutes later, the doorbell rings. My wife goes to the back with the officer. After a couple of minutes, she gets a call that someone is breaking into a car in a garage nearby. The officer says to my wife, "I have to respond to this, another officer should be by in a day or two." Literally 5 minutes later, the doorbell rings again. Another officer is there to finish up the report. Two weeks later, the phone rings. I pick up the phone and it's the Oak Park Police Department. "Good morning sir, we don't have any news about your report, but we wanted to check in to see how your service was. Did the officers answer all your questions?..." etc. You would never get that in the city...and probably most cities or suburbs. Ever since then, the tax burden doesn't seem so burdensome.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 11:16 PM) If he's in violation of the constitution then impeach him. I am not beholden to Trump. I just can't believe you guys won't take responsibility for choosing a candidate that can't even beat Donald Trump. Many on this site blast Trump over and over but act like this is some conspiracy. The Democrats chose a candidate who had no chance of winning cause she is DESPISED nationally even more than Trump. Well, two things Greg. One, he won the Electoral College. More people actually cast a vote for her. SO...he won, but it isn't really a win per se. But, he did win fair and square. Second, in response to your original question...you are asking if celebrities should have said what they said. Donald Trump did the exact same thing for...how many years before this? I mean, come on, he may be a much lower level celebrity, but he's been in the public eye since the 80's at the very least. And has tweeted his opinions for the last 5+ years. Why can he do it but no one else can?
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 06:37 AM) Had 2 goals the other night. I'd take him back for secondary scoring. Guys like Desjardins, Tootoo, Rasmussen, etc. are not helping us there. 35...concussion issues this year. I loved him when he was here...but no. My choice (if money or assets were no issue) Brock Nelson. Big body, natural LW. Young, inexpensive ($2.5 mil) controllable for another year at the same salary. Could always flip him in the offseason if needed. Now back to reality...I think Vanek might be the best guy for the role. He's playing well for a bad team and probably for his last big contract. And you may be able to get him for a little less than others.
  21. Absolutely Paulie should be in the Hall of Fame! The Chicago White Sox Hall of Fame! As for Buehrle...you have to factor in the 2005 Postseason as well. Won a game and saved a game in the same post season, which if I remember correctly, may not have been done before. Part of the 4 complete games in a row. Buehrle is a fringe HOF but I think he's one of those guys that needs to be seen beyond the statistics.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 05:43 PM) His gun was in his checked bag, went into bathroom and loaded the gun and killed people at baggage claim. Nobody saw him in the bathroom loading the gun? I won't assess blame, just express my sadness at the deaths and injuries and I'm happy the guy got caught and will be in prison the rest of his life. Terror mongers who do these things at airports also relish the fact that their actions will add to fear at airports and add to the awful experience known as travel. Sadness for those killed and their families. Very sad day. The man was hearing voices. He thought he was being recruited by the US into ISIS. He went to the FBI office in Anchorage telling them this and they admitted him into a hospital for FOUR DAYS. You think that's enough time to help someone who was hearing voices and obviously was mentally unstable? Oh, by the way, he served our country in Iraq. What he did was horrible. What wasn't done for him was just as bad because it could have saved those lives. As Tex said, it's time to address the mental health crisis.
  23. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 09:47 PM) Ha, it sure wasn't pretty! As they are now, I'm still kind of meh on getting past the second round. Crawford/Darling have covered up a lot. At least the possession numbers are better than last year. If they can continue to pepper in those greasy goals like Hjammer's (AA screen) and Hartman's first ("go to the net and good things happen"), then they will have a really good chance at winning the SC. If they stay on the outside, there's no chance.
  24. QUOTE (Donaldo @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 08:10 PM) Terry's radio partner for the past 17 years was only there for an hour? McNeil and North are both free agents now, aren't they? Bernstein has his moment on their last show. This was all about Terry. He's the last remaining original Score staffer on the air.
