  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) That is another problem the Sox have. The Cubs got good right when their top guys hit the big leagues, except for the half a billion they spend on pitching. They have a lot of control. If this takes 4 or 5 years, if these guys are as good as advertised, they will have not so much control and will be hitting arb. It would be more like KC, where then you would have a 2 or 3 year window before you have to be prepare for a gigantic payroll or start over. It will be interesting to see the team's ownership situation in 4 or 5 years. If you think about it, maybe JR will sell after next season. The payroll will be next to nothing with no long term commitments. Then you have the 2018 free agent class, and many new owners like to spend cash to get the ball rolling. Sign a star or two, get some good development, maybe they can be interesting in 2 years, but a lot more will have to go right than had to go right when they were piece mealing a run at a playoff berth. Selling after a 60 win season should scare every Sox fan a lot. Let's hope not.
  2. Doesn't seem like a guy who can stick or a bullpen candidate. Odd pick
  3. I like the rebuild but can I just say there will be no jubilation come April when they can't even sell out Opening Day? When we get into the thick of its it's going to get scary ugly. Those who pay close attention in the winter make a fanbase not.
  4. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:27 PM) Top Ten farm system. Almost has to be. I would think it's has to be higher than the #15 number thrown out.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:24 PM) If this fails to the point where you are trading Rodon, you might as well contract this franchise. I already hate this. There is literally no reason to watch this team for years. Seriously though everyone should pray for Jerry's great health the next few years.
  6. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 04:05 PM) My bad, could have sworn he was, but looking back at finalists from several years, no indeed. IIRC from the last time he was nominated, you can only be nominated every so many years.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:04 AM) I dont see how its a steal. One year of an injury plagued closer isnt worth all that much IMO. Soler has played 211 games Avi has played 409. So its like trading garcia 2 years ago, or when we thought he had tremendous value. Chapman reportedly has an offer of 92 million dollars and Melancon just got 62 million. Wade Davis is every bit as good but yeah he needs a clean bill of health. This of course hurts us for Robertson
  8. That's a huge steal for the Cubs if his physical checks out. Epstein does it again.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:13 PM) Seems like a 1-1 deal Big time steal for Epstein then if health checks out.
  10. According to multiple reports, Ramos' deal is for $12.5 million and includes playing time incentives to make up to $18.25 million over the two years. Sounds like a steal. See how the health checks out.
  11. QUOTE (Real @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:52 PM) Saw that the Yankees have the highest ranked catching prospect in Gary Sanchez http://www.baseballamerica.com/statistics/...ers/cards/93026 is he available? who else is out there? Not trying to be mean but did you pay attention to MLB in the second half of the year? I don't blame you if you didnt. But he was one of the biggest stories in baseball. Highly doubt he's touchable after that.
  12. If Red Sox are actually paying him 30+ million for us, that likely cost us another boatload of prospects. That sucks.
  13. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) This one actually hurts more for Boston, the total cost for Sale might be much higher than the $40 M surface value. Boston Sports Info ‏@bostonsportsinf 1h1 hour ago Remember..remember to add the $63 million it cost Sox to sign Yoan to the assets to get Chris Sale That's doesn't exactly help us. Hell, it probably hurt us.
  14. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:40 PM) Boston Sports Info ‏@bostonsportsinf 1h1 hour ago Chris Sale AL ranks since 2012 (min 100 GS) ERA - 1st WHIP - 1st CG - 1st SO - 1st OPS against - 1st alrighty then Ouch
  15. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) Alright, so, who was the last Sox hitting prospect to succeed with the team? Aaron Rowand 15 years ago.
  16. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) So, does Hahn get credit for this trade, or will KW somehow steal the show? If it works out, we credit Hahn. If it doesn't, we blame KW of course.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) Funny how Chicago media loves this, but I'm sure it's because they think it's what Theo would do 100% the reason
  18. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) 6. Luis Alexander Basabe, OF DOB: 08/26/1996 Height/Weight: 6’0” 160 lbs. Bats/Throws: S/R Drafted/Acquired: Signed August 2012 out of Venezuela for $450,000 2015 Stats: .243/.340/.401, 7 HR, 15 SB in 256 PA at short-season Lowell Future Tools: 60 speed, 60 glove, 55 arm, 50+ power Role: 50+—Solid-average regular in center field So, this is aggressive. Again. Basabe’s numbers weren’t terribly impressive, but the tools he showed (at times) sure as hell were. He’s got plus bat speed from both sides of the plate, and while there’s more present power from his natural right side, there’s enough strength to project above-average power from both sides of the plate. He’s shown the willingness to take a walk, but more than that, he’s able to work counts into his favor. While this puts him in a position to maximize his hit tool, the length in his swing pairs with those deep counts to result in plenty of strikeouts. He’s a plus runner who gets good jumps when attempting steals, so this could be a 30-plus stolen base player. Basabe is far more advanced defensively, and you could argue this is the best outfield glove in the system, even over the solid Benintendi. He’s not quite as efficient with his routes, but he’s more athletic and has a stronger arm. It’s strong enough that he could handle right field without any issues whatsoever. There’s lots of work to be done, but if everything goes right he’ll be another Boston player who you’d love to hit near the top of the lineup. It’s really not fair, is it? Bret Sayre’s Fantasy take: Somewhere, Wilson Karaman is maniacally laughing. Basabe is intriguing as an upside play and a potential power/speed outfielder in the mold of what some of us (cough, cough) thought Jake Marisnick might be on his way to becoming. He’s too raw to throw numbers on right now, but he’s a risk worth taking if you’re short-season diving. Major League ETA: 2019 Basabe looks pretty good to me! Low ball Toolsy position player that doesn't quite have the numbers to back up the hype? I bet he totally makes it with the Sox.
  19. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) Moncada is the top prospect in baseball. He still wishes he was as good as Hawkins
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) I am the exact opposite. Sure we got the #1 prospect, but there is literally no reason to care about this team for years now. Pretty much. I know our season ticket group stretching back 40 years was officially disbanded last week. Doubt were alone. Sox are going to be in for an extremely rough time these next few years.
  21. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:51 AM) Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeyman 52s52 seconds ago Chisox asked for benintendi, as everyone has (bos wants to keep). Chisox likes Jackie bradley Jr. Very much, and others This reads to me like the Red Sox are leaking this and saying, no AB you get JBJ. For posturing
  22. Wonder if the Yankees would have any interest in Robertson to go along Gio. They're one of the harder teams to predict, especially when it comes to bullpen arms.
