I like the media trying to create controversy for trump even when there shouldn't be. He won't disavow David Duke? David Duke didn't even endorse him and Trump very clearly disavowed him last Friday anyways.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 08:53 AM) As much as I've lost faith in Groce, I think it's pretty clear that he is coming back next year. Getting Williams was a huge step though, there's still a chance he turns this around. Will Groce ever reach the potential we saw after his first year? Chances are real slim, but this at least gets us 1 step closer to being good again whether Groce survives or not. Don't mean to direct this at you specifically because unforunately I agree he's probably coming back. It's just the wrong decision. He's done so well at burying this program that a point guard ranked around 50ish who is the legacy child of a program legend from the schools biggest pipeline in Peoria is somehow a huge accomplishment. Groce success is now becoming the product of his own failure. I don't mean to sound like we shouldn't be excited for the player specifically or anything. Just that we should win that recruiting battle 95% of the time.l say that no matter who the coach is. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 08:10 PM) As someone that saw their favorite program suffer for six years cause they didn't fire Hewitt after he landed Favors....you should never let recruits impact your decision. Yep. Need to fire Groce now so next coach has a shot to get these kids. -
Clinton wins in a landslide in SC. 85% of the black vote. That's making for some..."interesting" takes from bernie backers tonight. His base really are their own worst enemy.
-
QUOTE (Boogua @ Feb 27, 2016 -> 06:26 PM) The guy who said that those players would likely be Illini also said that Williams commitment has little to do with the coaching staff, so I'm not sure that's right. Who are you referring too? "Don't see it happening until after the season - assuming Groce is given that vote of confidence." That's the last post from derek piper. What are you reading then?
-
As leaked by Groce himself. Seriously though what I'm getting out of the premie board is that they're all worried about Groce's job status, in particular Williams. Nothing can make that better at this point.

Random pairing I have to say.

That Silva vs Bisping fight was something else. Terrific fight Lol at silva, knocking him out and then jumping out of the cage to celebrate. Turns out Bisping was saved by the bell. Bisping goes on to win decision because Silva has no inTeresa in actually fighting over trying to get on highline reals.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) I agree, but that doesn't mean he would take it. I would assume he would, but you never know. I think its moot. Groce will be back unless it just gets really embarrassing the rest of the way. In the last week Illinois has had a player arrested for attempting to stab someone with a knife and suffered one of the worst home court losses in 100+ year history. This will be hard to top the rest of the way to be honest. Edit: oh Minnesota at home sunday. Perhaps I spoke too soon. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) Knowing what I know of the Drew family, I kind of doubt it. He could have had a $2 million a year job years ago. What we know of the Drew family is that his brother left Valpo to take over the biggest scandal in the history of American sports. And at one of the worst basketball schools even outside that scandal. But it's somehow inconceivable for Bryce to leave a for a top 25ish, B1G program. He's a low level coach. Major programs aren't exactly knocking on the doors of the Horizon League. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 09:29 AM) Ha. I can't see him leaving what he has at Valpo for Illinois. Dude has it made there. He is a literal hometown here. He led their high school to a state title when he was at Valpo High in 1994. The family loves it there. If he is going to leave, it is going to be for a program that doesn't need to be rebuilt from the bottom floor. He makes 250k there and would make 2 million plus here. He'd be in Champaign in an hour if you offered him. -

QUOTE (gatnom @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 10:05 PM) Coleman-Lands: 21 pts. Rest of team: 26 pts. I hope he sticks around if Groce gets fired. Obviously I do to but I wouldn't even bring it up in the conversation when discussing whether Groce should stay. -
This is the worst moderated debate I've ever seen. And that's saying something. Rubio was winning but now he's gone way overkill yelling over people to the point of annoyance. Now no one will rangle him in.
-
Pretty sure the Republican party paid the entire crowd to cheer for rubio every time he speaks and crickets for the other 4.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 06:40 PM) Why would the A's traded for him then. Would be stupid to trade for him and turn around to trade him. Maybe they trade him later but highly doubt the would now. If the Sox wanted Coughlin then why didn't the trade for him. From the A's perspective? That's easy. Why not? Doesn't seem like they gave up anything of value. Basically got a quality mlb player for next to nothing. Even if it is a big position of strength for them, why not do that deal? Cubs perspective is more confusing, but as has been stated, timing probably forced them.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 06:35 PM) The A's have no need for him. They have Davis and Reddick on the corners. It would make sense if they get back a better player than who they gave up. I do wonder if Cubs had to rush trade in order to sign Fowler today. Oh I think that was definitely the case. It randomly broke an hour or so before the Fowler news broke and it was a real head scratcher at the time. With Orioles breathing down Fowlers back it made sense to put the contract in ink while they could and not worry about Coughlin's return.
-
Wouldn't rule out Coughlin getting flipped again. Hope sox would be in on that.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 12:17 AM) http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2016...at-Donald-Trump Are Republicans finally coming up with a plan to beat Donald Trump? Good article. Rubio hasn't attacked Trump even close to what you would think for someone in his position. Kind of makes me think he's going for the VP bid. Of course I believe the reason he is polling second is that he has strayed away from Trump. Do it at your own peril. It hasn't worked for anyone else. No idea why it'd work for Mr. Roboto.

Condi Rice could become the most powerful person in politics if she earned to. She'd be an obvious choice if she ever wants to get back into politics, but it doesn't seem like it. She did give a great speech at the 2012 convention. No way would Trump go back to Hadley after their war of words. Kelly Ayotte seems to want the job. But she probably has to worry about her own campaign first. Scott Brown is the name that keeps coming up over and over again, but I don't see it after he's lost twice in a row. Susana Martinez would check off a few boxes if that's the goal.

I like how front page of espn.com today was how D Rose was back. So fitting he sits out. My only worry is the article that replaced it was about Chris Sale.

Glad you brought up turnout. That's a huge story that no one seems to be talking about. Republican turnout is absolutely shattering the previous records across the board. Is it Trump? Anti-Trump? Simple hate for the Dems? Democrat turnout on the other hand is way down compared to 2008. I guess there's no inspirational candidate there.
