Since it came out this am that Butler's family is unfathomably rich, do you think he'll write a handwritten letter acknowledging his privilege?

Seriously. Barring beating OSU this weekend he should not even be in the conversation. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) Could Nobuhiro Matsuda be an option at 3B? He's already 32 but has put up nice numbers in Japan. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/nobu...eda-timing.html Here's one of his homers: Very interesting. You'd have to think a 32 year old who hasn't played outside Japan would come very cheap. Would love to explore that. Also he does not require a posting fee. So even cheaper.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 01:03 PM) I'm not sure how to gauge the majority of the missouri fan base. I think any time you try and jump into a complicated situation that has been developing for months after the fact by reading a single news article and then start claiming the football team is the real racists and that all of this stuff is no big deal is ignorant. I think the latching on of colege students to the idea that getting the authority figures to create some sort of deus ex machina rule that solves "community" issues is immature and naive. On the other hand, this isn't the Yale stuff. This has been going on for months. Saying "oh its not about that" is a weird thing to say when you didn't even know about it until saturday. Your fanbase seems vehemently against the strike from about every source I've scoured online. Obviously not a great gauge, that's why I was politely asking you for your opinion. I'm not basing anything off reading "one article" online. I've talked to both alum and students alike about it. People who think there's a problem and those who don't. What seems to be universal is the questioning of the motivations and merthods of Johnathan Butler. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 01:27 PM) As someone who has been here the entire time, not even close. There has been a steady stream of racism since Ferguson. There have been notable events. Grads had health benefits and tuition waivers cut. Planned Parenthood's university sponsorship was removed due to political pressure. Protests were had, rallies were had, letters and petitions sent. Wolfe didn't respond ever. That was the problem. I feel like you just agreed with me? They didn't get the necessary attention until a racism element was brought into it. -

Well what do you think? Seems like the majority of the mizzou fan base has turned on the team. -
Illinois fires AD Mike Thomas

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) Once again a terrible time to have a coaching vacancy. Illinois could have hit a homerun last season and hired Tom Herman. Nah the candidate pool is deep and good. Better than it was a year ago. It's a good time for a vacancy. -

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:39 AM) Maybe, but Illinois is at the bottom of the pecking order for coaches, so timing matters less. That'd make it matters more, not less. That said I'm just glad Thomas is gone. -

Sounds like some idiot didn't like his health benefits getting cut and tried staging a walkout. No one cared at all so he had to find another way for attention and claimed racism to do it. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 10:42 AM) Yeah, I wouldn't be too sure of that holding up down state. He seems okay with it. I think there would have been harsh words from both sides if this was going to court. -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) Weird, I saw a tweet saying that it was $12.85 million at about 830 AM CT today but ignored it because it looked like a fan account. The amount has been known for a few days -

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) Good Riddance. The report must be bad. Edit: Or not so bad (I see that the statement says the firing is "without cause"). Regardless of what their press report says, I think we can all assume it was the report that did him in. It's no coincidence they're releasing it today. They probably just agreed to pay his severance package rather than have another court case. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 05:21 PM) A couple baseball insiders have estimated his potential contract around 5/$40M on top of the $12M bid. Maybe they're a bit high (my guess is he'll get less than that), but we're looking at a lot more than $3M per year all-in. Kang got 2.5 for 4. I don't know why you'd offer him a lot more than that. If he asks for 40 million, tell him he can go back to Korea, lol. -

QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 05:08 PM) Sign someone to big bucks and play them out of position? No thanks. I imagine hell make like 3 million. Not really big bucks. Obviously the posting fee adds a decent amount but it's still not really gonna be big bucks. -
Yoenis Cespedes expected to leave Mets in free agency
Buehrle>Wood replied to whitesoxjr27's topic in The Diamond Club
Meh. Greg is mostly right. Cespedes work ethic was always questioned in Oakland. His performance never really matched the talent til he neared free agency. Now that he'll be settled in for good I could definitely see him busting hard. -
Yeah Goodell is pretty much powerless.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 5, 2015 -> 07:53 PM) They're really short on top heels right now. Who could even be a transitional champ right now if you don't want to put it on Reigns? I guess Ambrose winning the tourney and Reigns turning on him would be a pretty fun story, doubt they do that though. Don't you dare be souuur...
