  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) Ya, they really looked good last week and got some pressure on a Minnesota QB that was sacked something like 3 times all season. They also did a stellar job shutting down the run and offensively they are a very well balanced attack (plus that was the best Tate has looked all season, imo). Its too bad, this team was capable but it took some time for there young defensive line to get things together. The way they are playing right now is like a top 10 team and quite frankly aside from the OSU game, they should only have 1 loss and be on line for a BCS game. Unfortunately that didn't happen. Tate got hurt in the ISU game, they freaking totally blew the NU game and blew the Michigan game. Luckily they will have there QB and RB back next year (both of which are talented) and will have most of there oline back and there entire Dline back. The key will be the losses of Hinkel, Solomon and Hodges/Greenway. Those will be 4 key losses and Iowa is going to need to find some WR's and we all know they won't be able ot replace Hodges and Greenway. Yeah Yeah - and if NU hadn't let Penn State score a touchdown on the last drive who knows where we'd be!!! It's not what you coulda woulda shouda done but what you did! By the way the worst ass whupping I ever saw in person was when we took the bus trip to Iowa a few years back and they ran all over NU !
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) The lower bowl is not sold out per Brooks Boyer himself a couple of weeks ago. If you want lower level season tickets, you can get them for face value. Box Seats must be getting close - when we got our tickets a few weeks ago they were out to 153 and 112 in the lower deck boxes - by now they should be getting close.
  3. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) I just vomited in my throat... Lets see... Good defense in Anderson... Terrible offense if Pierre... For a defense based team... Not of mention the terrible one is going to cost more... Heck with that... ANDERSON OR BUST! Bruuuce is wrong more often than he is right!!!!!!
  4. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) You know what's really funny? Nobody is going to pay those ridiculous prices and Ebay charges it's fees based on the asking price. So that dumbass just paid money to list an auction that had no chance of selling. Actually he called me some unprintable names when I suggested that and he responded he had six people watching - I told him to let me know when someone actually bids on it cause they would have to be a moron! As W.C. Fields said there's a sucker born every minute - I don't know if the lower bowl is sold out someone may be desperate! The whole thing makes me mad ! In an ideal world the good seats would go to fans who care about the SOX!
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Welcome to professional sports kid. Newsflash: people who are not fans of the team scalp tickets!!!! I agree - but that doesn't mean I have to like it! It could be worse it could be the team that is scalping the tickets! Let's hope that only happens on the North side.
  6. I just saw a post on e-bay for some guy selling two lower deck box seats for almost $7,000 on e-bay for season only - not the playoffs! Having recently purchased season tickets I e-mailed him and told him I thought he was nuts since you can buy them from the Sox at $4820 AND get the playoff tickets. After a few obscenities he said he couldn't put up with having to sit with Sox fans for six months and he was ahead since he got 4 world series tickets and hopes to sell the playoff tickets when we go to the series again next year! As a life long Sox fan it pains me to see people who are not fans profiteering on tickets real fans cannot get! I know life isn't fair but wish SOX FANS COULD BE THE ONES ABLE TO BUY TICKETS AND GO TO THE PLAYOFF GAMES.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 01:32 AM) Mich will play on New Years (I'm refusing to acknowledge they're being played on the 2nd). Iowa could go the the Outback but it would be over Wisconsin, not Michigan. I also think Minnesota will get to go to El Paso, just because nobody wants NW. Who you crapping - we met most of the bowl representatives at our last home game and they all want NU!!!! Since going to bowl games is still relatively new to NU fans they sell their ticket allotment and the NU fans spend money!!!!
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) To be honest.. I should add a disclaimer.. this is what we pay and we are full season. But I have seen others say they have been invoiced the same in the past. On further review my son said I received the invoice today - you are correct the balance due now is not the entire balance - I spoke too soon - apparently their on-line account shows the entire balance as due but the invoice received in the mail is the 50%. Thanks and sorry next time I will wait to get all the info before asking.
  9. I am new to this but thought the balance due on season tickets was due in January. I went to my account on-line and saw an invoice was issued for balance of season ticket cost on 11/11 and due 12/8. No big deal since but wondered if this is earlier than it used to be - big chunk to lay out just before Christmas!
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) I remember the days oF Rodman when you put something cold in the cup, his hair would change color. Those were the days...... We were going through or shelves for stuff to get rid of this weekend and were laughing about the Rodman cup we found!!!! The new McD's cups really suck - as you said a major disappointment!
  11. QUOTE(Wanne @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) Konerko worth a lot to Sox, but not huge salary November 11, 2005 The most unfortunate thing about professional sports these days, at least in the non-Terrell Owens category, is the way change occurs at warp speed. No sooner had the White Sox won their first World Series in 88 years than people were obsessing over whether first baseman Paul Konerko would stay with the team. And now, 16 days after that momentous event, we're being asked to take inventory of our feelings about Konerko. That doesn't seem right. This is the guy who helped carry the Sox through their playoff run. If there was a face of this team, a team of beautifully working parts, it was Konerko. But soon that face will be getting contract offers via free agency, and we need to face facts. I couldn't agree more - when I read the article this morning I thought this guy really knows his stuff - not like the moron that writes for the other paper. I still think the Sox will end up signing Paulie but frankly am tired of hearing about it . I think Kenny will show him the respect of fielding other offers and then make a decision whether the Sox will match it. Whatever happens I trust the man who brought us a WORLD CHAMPION team will do the right thing. Konerko isn't worth some of the numbers that have been bandied about or, to be more accurate, he can't be worth those numbers to the Sox. Five years, $75 million? That's not Konerko. It almost pains me to write that because it puts everything in such stark, either/or terms. But that's pro sports, and the exact thing we're doing is the exact thing the Sox and all the other interested clubs are doing. We're eyeballing and analyzing. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...cs-home-utility

    Blonde joke..

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) Bob, a biker, walked into a sports bar around 9:58 PM. He sat down next to this blonde at the bar and stared up at theTV. The 10:00 news was on. The news crew was covering a story of a man on a ledge of a large building preparing to jump. The blonde looked at Bob and said, "Do you think he'll jump?" Bob says, "You know, I bet he'll jump." The blond replied, "Well, I bet he won't." Bob placed a $20 bill on the bar and said, "You're on!" Just as the blonde placed her money on the bar, the guy on the ledge did a swan dive off the building, falling to his death. Thanks for the chuckle!!! The blond was very upset and handed her $20 to Bob, saying, "Fair's fair. Here's your money." Bob laughed, "I can't take your money, I saw this earlier on the 5 o'clock news and so I knew he would jump." The blond replies, "I did too; but I didn't think he'd do it again."
  13. My main problem with Cub fans is they are not baseball fans. To prove my point I asked a supposed Cub fan to name five players on the Cubs this year - she got to four - nuff said! By the way what to a brown bear wearing a condom and the world series have in common!!!!!! NEITHER WILL EVER HAVE CUBS!!!!!!
  14. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) they aren't better than Va Tech or Penn State. But yet you don't think Penn State will beat MSU!!!!!
  15. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) Eventhough I dislike ND, to be fair you have to discount the loss to USC. If most of the other teams that you are asking about played USC, they would also have 2 losses. That is just giving credit where it is due, and honestly I do not think PSU is that great. They beat Wisconsin, but even as bad as Wisconsin played PSU never could really finish and it was a home game for them. There is a legitimate chance PSU will not beat MSU. SB Yeah we know - and according to you they have the best offense in the Big Ten - NOT!
  16. QUOTE(hogan873 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 02:14 AM) I've been looking for the jackets that the Sox were wearing during the parade. I haven't been able to find any retailer that has them...at least not in stock. Anybody know of where they can be found...if at all? Thanks Try E-bay!
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9831638/ Ali 'may only have months to live' Close family friend says boxing legend's health deteriorating rapidly Gary Hershorn / Reuters file Boxing great Muhammad Ali, who long has suffered from Parkinson's disease, is getting worse, according to his daughter, Laila. NBCSports.com news services Updated: 12:51 p.m. ET Nov. 4, 2005 Former heavyweight boxing legend Muhammad Ali "may only have months to live" and is losing his fight against Parkinson's disease, the London Evening Standard reported Friday. "His condition has worsened. At this point he may only have months to live," the friend told the newspaper. Added Ali's manager, Howard Bingham, "Laila feels she is losing him." Laila Ali, the ex-boxer's daughter, told the Los Angeles Times last week, "I feel like the disease is progressing. Different things start happening as you get older. I have noticed a change in him, something that goes along with Parkinson's. "It's painful for me because I would love to sit down and talk to my dad about the way he used to be when he was my age, when he was in his prime, because we are so much alike. I can't really do that. I can't share a lot of things with him." Laila Ali, 27, who lives in Los Angeles, is an undefeated professional boxer (21-0 with 18 knockouts) and wants to discuss the sport with the three-time former heavyweight champ, according to The Times. "We don't talk about boxing," she told The Times. "He might come to a fight and say, 'You're bad.' But he was never one to talk much about boxing with us. That was not him. And he doesn't talk much these days anyway. It takes him too much energy to talk. "He has his good days and his bad days. He's taking a lot of different medications. Sometimes, his speech is so slurred, you can't hardly understand him. But he definitely knows what's going on. That's for sure. He sees everything. "It's his motor skills that Parkinson's affects. So it's like he's trapped inside his body. He can think. He has things he wants to say, but his lips sometimes just don't move to get it out. "He's just taking life easy. He likes doing simple things. He loves to draw, he likes to color, he likes to clip pictures out of magazines. And he likes to do magic tricks. It doesn't take a whole lot to keep him entertained. But his attention span is very short when the subject is something more than that." "He doesn't feel sorry for himself, so it's hard to feel sorry for him." for the Ali family. One of my son's most prized possessions is a framed and autographed color picture of the Ali/Liston fight. He also has a boxing glove signed by Ali. Saying he was the greatest isn't enough - it's not often that a sports figure can change how we feel about people - Ali stood up for what he thought was right - that's what makes him the greatest!!!!!
  18. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) They beat Wisconsin by 3 points, and had Stocko not thrown the interception at the end, likely would have lost to Wisconsin. It was not the Wisconsin offense that lost to Northwestern, it was the defense. There is no excuse for giving up 48 points against Northwestern. My belief is that Wisconsin looked past NU and that is what nipped em, but there is no point in crying over the past. But then again, I believe that the Wisconsin offense could score more than 48 points if they got to play the Wisconsin defense. We shall see what happens, but I would prefer losing to NU 1 time and winning the Big 10. As compared to beating Wisconsin and maybe making a bowl game. SB Winning the Big Ten is a lot easier when you don't play OSU and get to beat up on Indiana and squeak by Minnesota!!!!!

    10 Grand!

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) This is my moment of glory. Seems to be a trend to make your own 10,000 post topic so I made one as well. Let me gloat............................... 10 grand! Woot woot! Here I thought you were talking about WS parking rates for next year!!!!!!
  20. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:59 PM) I do not think you can really compare total yards, points, etc, because each offense runs a different system, and each game is played on a different day. Wisconsin's system is to put the ball in the rb's hand as much as possible. That is not conducive to scoring points like throwing the ball every down, or using large amounts of play fakes, etc. But I do think Wisconsin's talent is the greatest in the Big 10, and that in combination with their system, they are almost unstoppable on any given day. I do not think any other team in the Big 10 has the same capabilities on the ground and in the air as Wisconsin. Also their 2nd rb, would start for many teams in the Big 10. SB Didn't work against NU!!!!!!!!

    Killer pizza man.

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) They just found the match because previously they didn't have his DNA in the system. He got caught on another rape case and as a condition had to give a DNA to the database (I thought this was SOP in sexual assult convictions..?) and that's how they linked him. I just heard about it for the first time last night. Death penalty would be too good - thinking something along the final scenes of Bravehart would be appropriate!!!!
  23. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) Wisconsin's defense has suffered a tremendous amount of injuries, and lost a significant amount of players. They are all very young and can not really play well against ball fakes. That means it probably is going to be a high scoring affair versus Penn State. I will say that Wisconsin's offense is the best in the Big 10. SB Can you say NU!!!!!!!
  24. QUOTE(rventura23 @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) when do 06 tickets go on sale I don't know for sure but I tried to order season tickets the Monday before the World Series began and was finally contacted yesterday. I am ecstatic we finally have season tickets for next year!!!!!!! Guess I was kind of naive to think you could get lower deck preferred box seats - we are in section 152 and couldn't be happier to know we will be there when the SOX repeat as World Champions next year!!!!!!!!!
  25. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) Soxtalk has become like an extended family to me. It has been a distinct pleasure to share this magical, wonderful baseball season with you all. I want to thank each and every one of you for allowing me to be part of Soxtalk and for putting up with me when I'm not quite as, ummm, civil(?) ... as I should be. I want to extend a special thank you to Steph and Justin for helping me get my hands on some hard to get tickets, which allowed me to take my father to see the Sox in person for the first time in 30 years. You two will never know how much that means to me, and will mean to me the rest of my life. One final thought. We have the championship we have so longed for. I'd suggest that we take the high road. Stand tall and be proud, but don't rub it in anyone's faces. If a Cub fan starts mouthing, just smile and walk away. What better way to send the message that you don't care what they say? As I said, it's been a wonderful, magical season that we'll all remember till the day we die. Relish it. Enjoy it. Cherish it. Tip one for Jerry, Kenny, Ozzie and all the guys ... and while I'm at it, all the wives too. They support the guys through all the ups and downs and they're a huge part of this team. *wiping tears* As a newbie to the board - would love to have a chance to get together with all the regular posters. I hear there is a tailgate every year - if I ever get through to the ticket office and get our season tickets would love to attend next year.
