  1. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) Thome pre-ASB RISP BA: .388 Thome post-ASB RISP BA: .242 and just for perspective... Uribe 2006 RISP BA: .287 Stats to ponder. I'm sure everyone has their own aggrivating stats. This one is my personal irk. Santo....is this .242 incorrect?
  2. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 02:44 AM) I heard an interesting comment from Black jack McDowell Saturday when he was broadcasting the game with DJ. A relief pitcher must have a certain mentality going and it's not the same as a starter's mentality. Brandon doesn't have it as a relief pitcher. The kid gives up too many homers and more often than not in atough situatgion he can't get the first batter out. Our bullpen for the most part has done everything they can to lose games, Brandon had a defeatist attitude about pitching out of the bullpen before the season even started.
  3. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 02:23 AM) Nah, he sucked hardcore saturday night too. He can't pitch out of the bullpen when there's guys on base, the game is tied, or when we have the lead. Let him start elsewhere. The management here won't start him, so if we can get a decent starter back in a big trade involving McCarthy, I say do it. I stand by my statement 100 percent that KW should have done that Soriano deal if we could have extended his deal. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 02:40 AM) Hilarious how a previous poster mention Thome recent second half struggles with his "clutchness" by pointing out his BA in those situations. Anyone who says Anderson has been clutch is insane. He has more "worthless" hits when the game is out of hand then anyone on the team.
  4. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 02:34 AM) Fathom, he doesn't have a chance against LHP. Who's responsibility is it to realize this (Check your own sig) Well, if I complained about Ozzie being stupid by continuing to play him, then people would point to his OPS this season as a reason he should still be facing LHP. I really can't remember the last time Thome got a hit against a LHP starter. This might be the first time I've criticized Thome in one of these threads. I've given him the benefit of the doubt this season...but it's time for him to start picking his game up. I don't think it helps that Frank Thomas is going off right now.
  5. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 02:27 AM) Because of what? Seriously. WTF are you talking about? Did you seriously think he had a chance against NeedsaSebathia today? I thought for sure Gload would be at first with Pauly as the DH. Because he continues to fail in clutch spots. I know what the stats say, but his inability to knock in RISP since the ASB has really, really hurt our offense. His 2nd half has been very disappointing, especially considering he's put up some huge numbers in the 2nd half in previous years. No, I thought he had no chance to hit C.C. However, if he's playing in the game, then he neeeds to make adjustments and shorten his swing if he feels overmatched. I would have rather seen Garland bat against C.C. than Thome tonight. It's too bad KW didn't acquire someone in the last month that could have helped us against LHP.
  6. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) Whats scary is that McCarthy might be pitching himself out of a starters spot next season..... You know if it was up to Ozzie, he'd keep the same 5 in the rotation next year. KW is the McCarthy fan in the organization. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) Whats scary is that McCarthy might be pitching himself out of a starters spot next season..... And let me add that Anderson might play himself out of the CF starting position.
  7. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) If you have a changeup, and are lefthanded, you would shut out of this team. About McCarthy; and I don't know about you, but i'd still rather take my chances with him than watch Freddy Garcia pitch another season for this ballclub. With the money saved (factoring in the amount we're paying which ever team trades for him), we'll be able to pay for a reliever. Or another bench player so Mackowiak will never have to be in CF again. Yep, I agree about getting Garcia off of this team ASAP, and then seeing what McCarthy can do as a starter.
  8. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) Blah,Blah Blah, Ozzie is using Brandon in the wrong role. Im sick of that. Brandon has one role. Get Outs. That is his role, along with everyone else in the bullpen and the staff. Get outs. Right now, he is not getting it done, plane and simple. There was ALOT done wrong today, but McCarthy needs to step it up, because he isnt helping his cause by getting more time on the mound... Yeah, I'm done using that argument. After allowing runs in 6 straight appearances, McCarthy needs to be used in mop-up situations only. His stuff is pathetic on the mound right now. I really hope KW knows what he's doing by not trading McCarthy. I hate to say it, but McCarthy and his 3 losses in the last 2 weeks could easily cost us the playoffs this year.
  9. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 10:23 PM) I disagree... if he was in the two spot it forces him to actually get decent pitches to hit... I mean right now the pitchers eat him alive because as soon as they get him out they have an even easier out in Pods right behind him... The problem is that he's nowhere close to a good enough, and consistent, hitter to be hitting in such a big spot. He's not exactly seeing tough pitches in the 9 spot. He just makes so many weak outs on the first pitch.
  10. Anderson looks awful right now. If we put him in the #2 spot, we're just making it even tougher for Dye to bat with someone on.
  11. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 09:39 PM) I know this is some of that great sarcasm, but Morneau isn't their manager. However, things would have to seperate A LOT more for any team to be worrying about setting up rotations, etc. I think Morneau reflects what the entire team thinks about the Sox though. This thread does bring up a good point, about how maybe we could luck out with Santana not pitching that final wknd if they're already in.
  12. After reading Morneau's comments, I'm sure that they'll just roll over and not try against us.
  13. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 09:08 PM) Equation of lefthander with 93mph+ fastball + good offspeed pitch = defeat. Next offseason, Williams needs to find players who destroy lefthanders and platoon them in certain matchups. I've been saying for two months now that Eduardo Perez would have been a great addition. Maybe we can bring back Rowand as our 4th outfielder.
  14. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) We blew a big chance to get within 2 1/2 games. If I was in KW's position the first pitcher I would get rid of is Vasquez. Our bullpen lately has given me a few grey hairs! Vazquez isn't a problem. He still has some breakdowns out there, but he's one of the few guys that seems to be getting better as the season goes on. We have a lot more other problems more serious than Vazquez.
  15. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) It will really be a sad state of affairs if a team that has played this poorly for this long manages to get into the playoffs. We won't be in the picture if we crap the bed this week on the west coast.
  16. We face a lefty this Wednesday....I would definitely like to see Fields DH, and Thome sit on the bench.
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 08:54 PM) Yea, but you can't ask him to go through zeros every time out. Two runs is pretty damn good. Yeah, please don't take it as me saying that he's not doing well. However, it would be nice if he actually just went out and won us a game, instead of losing the momentum as soon as the 6th inning comes around.
  18. I feel worse about our team now than I did prior to this series. Even though we got 3 good starts by our pitchers, our bullpen now only has 2 reliable arms, and our offense against lefty pitchers continues to be useless. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 09:00 PM) Don't worry, Guillen won't let them give up. He's truly a baseball genius. I mean, 5 relievers in an inning?! That's the kind of insanity that only comes with genius. He just wanted to make sure they all would get some confidence today.
  19. I asked this in the game thread: who's more overrated right now, McCarthy or Anderson?
  20. I know what the stats say, but I've been very disappointed with Thome over the last few months.
  21. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) Every last ounce of momentum that AJ gave us a couple games back is completely gone. Isn't that Javy's duty? QUOTE(G&T @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) So a rookie was going to bat for th game? Why not...our lefties looked clueless against C.C.
  22. Terrible loss. Our bullpen is in absolute shambles.
  23. Crede's back looks like it's really messing up his swing.
  24. At least we let C.C. get wild this inning.
