QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 05:17 AM) Please don't call the team lucky because of the AJ play. You know as well as I do baseball is a game of inches and breaks. C'mon. You aren't calling our Sox lucky champs. If we didn't win it all, I guess I wouldn't be as high on Oz, though I'd like to think just making the Series would have made me think he was a pretty damn good manager. We could all write essays on why we think Oz is great or sucks. If you want me to answer any specific reasons I think he's good, fire away. I want to know if the majority of Sox fans think Oz sucks or just the majority on here. Ozzie's the first person to say 2005 is over. He's even said that if we don't make the playoffs, he deserves the blame. From what we've all seen lately, this team is going nowhere. I know you don't see many of the games, so I think you don't get as good of an illustration about just how fundamentally bad this team is and how awful the intensity is.

Here's my thought: Dear Ozzie....thanks for the 2005 WS ring. Now please follow-up on your promise, and quit this offseason. This way, KW won't have to give up anymore of our few remaining big prospects in order to acquire your golf buddies (unless it's Miguel Cabrera). Also, our young players will get more experience, which might allow us to have a 100 million dollar payroll more spread out across the roster instead of half in our pitching staff and 1/5 at the 1b/DH position.

QUOTE(beautox @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 04:45 AM) I guess thats just ozzie being ozzie, tearing down young talent for no reason and not calling out those that need to be called out. oh ozzie your the greatest. you even have an award to say so. Yep, he has no problems bashing Anderson and McCarthy. Meanwhile, veterans like Garcia and Podsednik get every excuse in the book from Ozzie for their struggles.

I figured this thread would cause a lot of pro-Ozzie comments.
-
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Call me crazy, but I have a feeling that Ozzie wants to see Juan Pierre leading off in CF for the Sox next year.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:50 AM) I think everybody knows that when you say quit, you mean they have given up. No need to try to spin it any other way. You've said as much at other times, no need to try and spin it. If you are gonna say it every other post, at least stand by it. Yep...I'm actually one of the few who hasn't proclaimed "season's over".

How many double plays in the last month?
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:46 AM) So quit doesn't ACTUALLY mean quit now huh? It means exactly what I said. If it literally meant they quit, then that would mean they "to cease normal, expected, or necessary action". It's just like when we discussed choking last season. I think every person in this thread knows exactly what the term quit means in regards to sports.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:44 AM) LOLOLOLOLOL Comment? I didn't know I was instant messaging with a 16 year old girl.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:43 AM) Shockingly it seems that the Twins have figured out how to beat the juggernaut Devil Rays at home. I dont know how they figured that one out, but they did. My hats off to them for going into the hornets nest and coming out with a W. I thought I heard that they've won 14 straight vs the DRays.
-
The term "quitting" in baseball is similar to "choking". Obviously, they're not literally doing one or the other. However, when a team looks lazy on the field, shows no urgency on or off the field, and things go bad, then the term quitting is thrown around.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:39 AM) Of course they haven't quit. Are you really serious? Why would this team quit? I mean, I can't believe what I'm reading around here. But I shouldn't be surprised. It was the same type of stuff going down the stretch last year, led by you. Never once did I say the team last year had quit. They were trying too hard, and they weren't having any fun on the field. For all my negativism, I was one of the few during the tough stretch who believed (along with Jason Gage), that once they made the playoffs, the pressure would be off, and they'd go on a roll.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:38 AM) That's all anything on this board is. Opinion. Despite the fact that there is no evidence that anybody on this team has quit. The one guy people would pen that on went out and shut them down tonight. Just because you are playing like s*** doesn't mean you aren't trying. I don't think anyone has ever said Vazquez has quit. He just has a mental issue when it comes to the 6th inning. At least Vazquez cares enough to b**** about pitches that don't go his way. There's some other people who just seem to ground out, not hustle to first base, and then go into the dugout like it's no big deal.

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:37 AM) lets all send ozzie angry emails for encouragement Nope....do the opposite. Send him e-mails about how Pods needs to play every day, and Mackowiak should be in CF. He's in the mode where he feels like it's him against the world, so lets do some reverse psychology.
-
QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:36 AM) What is Ozzie good for? Winning us a 2005 World Series.....and I'm being serious. Just like Pods, I'll always appreciate their contributions for the greatest sports memory I'll ever have.
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:34 AM) Awful=contrary to your opinion, it seems. I'd have a lot more respect for him if he actually posted his opinions instead of cherry-picking for posts to criticize like he's been doing lately.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:31 AM) Nobody seems to have so many awful posts as you, so yes, I would say you have a special distinction. Though the guy with the ridiculous post on Paul is trying for that distinction. Thanks for the personal attack. You've really been missed. Do you really think this is an awful post? You really don't think this team has quit?
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:25 AM) When you are saying the Sox are wasting money by having Konerko put up a .307/.379/.549 line with 30 HR, 97 RBI, then yea, its pretty much heresy. Yep, it's dumb to say we're wasting money on PK. I will say that it's time for PK to step up and help this team during a terrible stretch. His approach at the plate is pathetic right now.
-
QUOTE(atrain081 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:29 AM) It's been such a horrible second half. I really hope that regardless of what happens KW makes some significant moves next offseason. This team the last five years has just been atrocious in the second half of the season. Always has been, always will be. How about he never, ever, ever asks players on the team if they think an upgrade is needed? It's like asking a parent if they would like to upgrade over their children. They're never going to say yes, even if it's obvious.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:28 AM) Not only have the quit, they are trying their hardeest to piss off the fans on this board. Not for any particular reason either. Just for the hell of it. Thanks for the quality post. I feel honored that you only seem to respond to me now.
-
QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:28 AM) You never want to see somebody get hurt, but I really want McCarthy in the rotation. We'd probably see Haeger in the rotation.

QUOTE(atrain081 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:27 AM) horrible approach, what else can it be? Is it really possible for nine players simultaneously hit slumps? Yes, it happens every year around this time for the Sox (including 2005). -
I see absolutely no hustle by our core players, no urgency by our coaching staff, and just no enthusiasm by anyone on or off the field. It's sad that the only people who are hustling are Ozuna, Gload, Mackowiak, Sweeney, and Sandy. Someone might want to tell guys like Crede, Dye, and PK that the season isn't over at the end of August. The good news is that I have absolutely zero confidence that Guillen can turn this ship around.

Good thing Thome didn't let that first pitch hit him. Heaven forbid we get the tying run on board.
