  1. This has been a very good game thread tonight, considering how bad the team is playing right now. Once the good posters start joining the thread, we might be able to discuss this team more efficiently.
  2. Flash....Broadway is pitching at Durham this weekend, so I'll be able to get you a first-hand scouting report on him.
  3. Tony...if you're reading this, NOW is the perfect time to get Neal work.
  4. The great news is that I'll be getting out of work just in time to hear the PFB.
  5. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:20 AM) It was hit to deep RF, and Clevelan looked like he was ready to trip over his own feet. That was stupid of Pods. IT was either going to be a homer or a flyout. Here's another question: don't you think that in a 7-1 game, Pods should be able to just walk into 2nd base on a steal attempt if he wanted to?
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:19 AM) I'm pretty sure Toronto is going to have a new manager next season. Lilly gave Gibbons a bloody nose tonight. What happened?
  7. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:14 AM) INEXCUSABLE for Pods not to tag. I realize we're down 6 runs, but if it's beyond his heads he's on third, if it's gone -- it's gone. I didn't see the play, but the last thing we need is someone making out on the bases.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:15 AM) He's not an astute player. Very poor baseball sense. It's astonishing how low his baseball IQ is. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:16 AM) Maybe I'm missing something, but does Clevelan have an arm like Zumaya? Actually, I saw him throw against Boston, and he had an absolute rocket.
  9. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:12 AM) Pods! (sarcasm) Just when you thought he couldn't get worse, he completely redeems himself! I wonder if Leyland will state to the media tonight that Ozzie is just jealous that a white manager beat him?
  10. Who would have ever thought Garland would be easily our best pitcher, and our bullpen would be the strongest part of our team on August 21st?
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:03 AM) You're right. If the pitching continues like this, even if the playoffs are made, its going to be a quick exit. It's just amazing how many times a week a starting pitcher gives up 5 or 6 runs in their outing. As you said earlier, don't you think they'd have a fluke week where they all pitched well?
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:02 AM) That's right. You can't call the White Sox cheap anymore, not that it was really fair to call them cheap before. Maybe it we were cheaper, we wouldn't have done the Vazquez deal.
  13. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:02 AM) Then we're done. We're not gonna hit our way to the playoffs. Even if we do, will get knocked out in round 1. The pitching has to get better. Well, I'll take our chances in the postseason. I'd rather lose every game 15-0 then to not make it.
  14. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:59 AM) Are there any figures available on how much, if anything, the team made on sales of LDS, LCS and World Series merchandise last year? If it was substantial, wouldnt that have warranted some deadline activity? We increased our payroll a ton this year. It might be the one thing I can't find anything to complain about. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:59 AM) Oh give me a break. Abreu would only waive his NTC for Mets, Yankees and someone else Maddux did not have a NTC but Jim Hungry had a handshake deal with him saying he would not trade him unless Maddux wanted him to and he got to choose the team. You can thank the Garbage NL and AL West for making this a sellers' market for the second year in a row. Jeez Pods. try to show some heart please. I'd be willing to bet Abreu would play for Ozzie. They're very close friends, FWIW.
  15. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:58 AM) so who is going to write the "DONT WORRY GUYS, WE WILL COME BACK" thread tonight? Greg Hibbard If you read this Mr. Hibbard, I'm just kidding. Your post was well thought out today, even if I disagreed with the tone.
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:54 AM) Plus someone needs to ask the question at soxfest, Ozzie and KW what happened to Freddy's velocity. It would make my day if we don't have to.
  17. Did anyone see what type of reaction Rowand got when he came to bat tonight at Wrigley? QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) If McCarthy doesn't even warm up tonight, I'm going to start thinking that something is going on. He wasn't used in the Minny series, despite the fact that there were plenty of times to do so. He hasn't been used since August 16th. God bless Kenny, Coop, and Ozzie if they're actually stretching the kid out. God bless 'em. Isn't it funny that this comment actually makes me giddy?
  18. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:50 AM) If they don't make the playoffs, I think we will be hearing about numerous non-reported injuries. My two biggest fears are Thome and/or Contreras needing major surgery after this year.
  19. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:50 AM) when this team plays to its potential, it's probably the best team in all of baseball. When it doesn't, you get fiascos like tonight. And Sunday. And Friday. Why they don't play more consistent I have not a clue. But it's not one thing. Yankees, since the deadline, are definitely the most talented team in baseball now. It's fun rooting for them like I did this weekend, where every guy coming to the plate is dangerous.
  20. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:49 AM) Jose's ERA at 4.04 now. This has got to be some kinda record. How does every returning starter from a World Series championship team come back worse the following year? And we can't even pla the injury card. Knock on wood, but we have to have had the least injury issues of any team in baseball this year.
  21. QUOTE(cgaudin @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:47 AM) Dude, I saw an astonishing stat on AJ. He's thrown out only 18% of baserunners trying to steal.....and there have been 84 attempts on him. Maybe it's AJ, but that's Cooper's job to cut that crap down and TEACH his pitchers how to hold runners better. We're a terrible fundamental team in almost every aspect. It's amazing the combo of Thome/PK/Dye/Crede/Jenks have carried us as far as they have.
  22. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:46 AM) Fathom, can't u multi-task. I am watching both, but am so glad Prison Break is back. I'm at work. If my fiance messes up taping Prison Break, she'll no longer be the future Mrs. Fathom
  23. I still stand by my statement that if we don't make the playoffs, the turning point of this season was Joey Cora sending Iguchi homer on Tuesday night in the 5th inning with 2 outs. Prior to that play, we had our swagger back and were rolling. Immediately after that, Vazquez gave up a 2 run bomb, and we've been playing with no intensity since.
  24. QUOTE(SoxnGiants @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:42 AM) Okay, I couldn't stay away. Anyone think that AJ might be part of the problem? Some really bizarre pitch selection going on tonight. It's been more than just tonight.
  25. At least Prison Break returns tonight. And I swear on my life that if anyone spoils anything that happens, I'll get banned by what I say (tempting jphat, isn't it?)!
