Great start so far. Vazquez is missing his spots all over the place. That's a play that should have been made.
-
Yankees fans all cringe at this match-up here.

What's the latest radio update?

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 12:58 AM) I oughta just shut the f*** up in the future. I do know Philly was getting roughed up in Charlotte. Bad reviews of Phillips from someone at the game. He said he has a great pickoff move, but his stuff doesn't look MLB caliber and he's not fooling anyone.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:47 PM) I was at the game the and watched him after the error, and he didn't show him up. I don't know where you are getting your info from. From about four different radio personalities yesterday. I didn't see the replay, as I was too busy typing "when will Ozzie learn" after the Mackowiak error.
-
You can survive on a great hitting team having a defensive SS and CF. However, you can't have a LF who sucks on offense and defense. We also just have to see the end of Mackowiak in CF. It's so freaking stupid that we keep making the same mistakes 110 games into the season.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 06:56 PM) The best part of that Jeter catch is he took 3 steps after he had the ball (in fair ground) before being in the stands. I still think he could have stopped or almost stopped, but kept going to make it look good. The only reason that Jeter catch is so popular is because how that game went. If you remember, that was an epic extra inning game which featured Nomar sitting on the bench the whole game. If anything, it was more of a symbolic catch of how great of a leader Jeter is, and how far Nomar had fallen with the Red Sox.

AJP has as much to do with anyone in turning this franchise into a World Series contender. However, he's overrated right now. His hitting has been pretty good this year (struggles with RISP have hurt us), but his catching has been awful. If he's the one calling the pitches, then it's been really disappointing.
-
If Derek Jeter made that diving catch into the stands like Uribe did, there would have been a Gatorade commercial revolving around the play already.
-
Why don't we wait until the season is over to discuss if one year was more disappointing than the other? Maybe it's just me, but my disappointment level is much less this season than it would have been if we didn't win the World Series last year. I'm not saying I'm giving the team a grace period though. I just think it's interesting how everyone is saying how disappointing this team is after one of our better "losses" in a long time. I don't believe in moral victories, but I do believe in momentum.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) He put up with the whole Palmeiro/Sosa/B-12/manager being fired mess the year before. That's what I'm saying...he's sick of playing with the Orioles. He's not an idiot. He knows they have no chance in that division. But like people in this thread have said, who the hell knows what Angelos will do.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) Talk amongst whom, if you don't mind my asking? And has this season's massive attendance increase already been spent/factored in? In the paper about what our payroll is going to be with our core guys being brought back. If you factor in Crede re-signing for about 8 mil a year, we're going to be near 100 million after 14 guys. Unless we're planning on unloading more salary, it's going to be hard to make any huge upgrades.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) He demanded one last offseason, and look what happened with that. He rescinded the demand though. After another season of turmoil and losing, he won't be as willing to play for the Orioles again. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) Thats because their owners is the worst in the MLB. Who would turn down Roy Oswalt. Roy Oswalt is no friggin Cy Young.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) The recently signed Mora to an extension at third, so I don't know how interested they'd be in Fields (unless they plan on moving him elsewhere), and if they didn't accept Roy Oswalt for Tejada, I doubt they'd want Garcia I have a feeling Tejada's going to demand a trade this offseason. That will put them in a much tougher position to get back a top package for him than the situation they were in at the deadline.
-
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) So there is basically no chance then? Even if we unload Freddy? There's a lot of talk that we have to unload a big contract like Freddy's in order to bring back the rest of our main guys next year. The most important thing this offseason is to re-sign Crede to a long-term deal.
-
After Tejada's little tirade yesterday, it just increases the chances of him getting traded this offseason. I'd love to see us get into the bidding for him with a package of Garcia, Fields, etc. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) KW tries to trade stuff as far away from hurting him as possible. We should trade him to the Tigers, Indians, or Twins then.
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) I just doubt KW would try and help another AL team--and Freddy could help another team improve their SP, even at his current production. I could care less if we trade him to the Tigers. I just want KW to get the best possible package for him in the offseason....just make sure he's traded though.
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) I doubt Freddy can't pitch vs. the weaker AL teams because the sox have mentioned trading him. Has he pitched better since the trading deadline? A bit. But his velocity is still down. If Freddy goes, I'm sure the sox would rather trade him to a NL team so the sox don't have to face him. Esp as he only gets up for the better teams like the sox. Any number of teams would have to be interested in Freddy--Philly, STL, the Mets. I would gladly face Garcia in the future. If he keeps up at his current rate, he's going to be throwing 85 mph consistently next year.
-
I found it pathetic though how there was an add for "World Trade Center" on the cnn.com story about the terror plot. Lets just put Wesley Snipes and Samuel L. Jackson on every flight, and we'll all be safe.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) We're 1-4 against the Yankees this year. We're now falling behind in the Wild Card, and we're several games behind the Yankees as well. We've got the Tigers this weekend, who were beaten last night by the Twins. It'd be nice to have momentum against them. Don't forget the Twins start a 4 game series against Toronto, and they won't be facing Halladay. If we struggle this wknd, we could easily find ourselves 3 games back.
-
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) Also, in regards to last night, Garland did get squeezed, and I don't know what Brian Gorman's vendetta is against the White Sox, but I will go on record as saying the man downright Hue Hollins'd us in the fifth inning with that bulls***. Yes, every umpire is out to get us besides for Doug Eddings. The only pitch I thought Garland got really screwed on was an outside fastball to Jeter that should have been a called 3rd. The pitch in question to Abreu has taken on a life of its own, as it looked to clearly be a ball. Instead of always having umpires cost us games, it would be nice if our starters just made one more good pitch to the hitters and overcame the questionable call.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) I don't see how this could cost him 4 mph on his fastball. The sooner everyone on the Sox takes responsibility for their own actions, the better we'll be. There's been way too many excuses, etc. for a championship team.
-
There's been some terrific quotes by Sox players/coaches this week.
-
QUOTE(Maverick0984 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) well KC is in the AL Central, the best division in baseball, that does account for some of their loses. if they were in the NL west, they'd have a slightly different record . not saying they are "good" of course, but they have some good nights. a bunch of s***ty teams all in one division beating up on each other, a couple having halfway decent records, doesn't make them good, just makes them the best of the s***ty teams. KC would come in last place in the NL West.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) He would own in the NL west. He'd have a chance for success, but Garcia isn't going to be owning anyone with the stuff he now has. It will actually be very interesting to see if he finally "finds" his fastball in his free agency year.
