QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:28 AM) Fathom, I honestly don't care how "hard" Podsednik was going. He had a leadoff double. Against a sinkerballer. The absolute PERFECT chance to "get him over", and get him in. It would take away some of the momentum of Mackowiak's antics in CF. 2-0. This is a f***ing joke. I'm on the brink right now. Seriously. Of course I agree with you it was stupid. Pods has one of the lowest on field baseball IQs I've seen on the Sox in a long time (since Jimenez).

Keep throwing junk up to the plate Freddy. Another nice addition to the Yankees. I know we're not allowed to root for injuries, but I would love to see McCarthy get the chance to replace Garcia in his upcoming starts.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:25 AM) I am finally over the Ozzie Guillen Craze. If he stays next year, I will be highly disappointed. The guy flat out can't manage. Period. Nothing he does is above average. Who's available though? Razor Shines? You better hope he quits or says something stupid, because he won't be fired no matter what he does on the field.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:24 AM) Hawk... IT'S NOT THE UMPS FAULT THAT PODSEDNIK IS A f***ING DUMBASS. I never played baseball past pinto, and even I f***ING KNOW YOU CAN NEVER MAKE THE FIRST OUT AT THIRD. IT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN THAT CLOSE!!!! Am I the only one that saw him not round first base very well, and he was watching the ball far too much?
-
QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) Scotty getting thrown out.... Isnt it ironic, Dont you Think? We've been aggressive at the wrong times lately, and not aggressive when we should be. It's just one of those things where it seems you can't do anything right.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) Here we go with the Umpires are against us s***. Hawk give it up or retire. I dont want to constantly listen to how the league, umpires etc are out to get us. Pods should of stopped at 2nd with the thumpers behind us. 1-2-3 inning because our team is dumb. They didn't even give a very good view of the play at third. He very well could have been out. The throw beat him, which makes the call go more in favor of the Yanks. At least Iguchi looked good in trying to get him over.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:20 AM) Pods and his lack of wheels gets tossed at third. Nice hit, dumb running. It was a nice hit, but he has to stop watching the ball as he rounds the bases. He never seems to round the bases well, and his speed is diminished due to that.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) Ozzie hasnt figured that out yet. He keeps this platoon going for whatever f***ing reason. Then he keeps forgetting to actually use his bullpen until at least 4 runs have crossed the board in an inning. He has no clue how to manage the personnel on this team this season.
-
I'm still puzzled as to why Pods didn't throw that ball home. If he's just going to hold the ball out there when guys are running all over the place against him, we might as well release him.
-
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:14 AM) Terrible call. Not only do we have to fight with Mackowiak in center, but a small zone. Please don't start this again.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:13 AM) Seriously, F*** Rob Mackowiak and Ozzie Guillen. I'd rather have Timo in CF. Jesus Christ. It seriously is amazing. When is someone going to tell Ozzie that you can't keep putting a corner outfielder in CF?
-
QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:13 AM) Gooch is 2 for his last 20...OUCH On the radio, they said that Pods has an OBP of .275 since the ASB.
-
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:12 AM) Pods could have had him at home. Why didn't he throw it? I have absolutely no clue. This inning so far has been symptomatic of a lot of our problems this year.
-
Ummm, did Pods not have a play at home on that? Damon wasn't running when it was in the air. This team is so freaking flat.
-
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:09 AM) Lol, Ozzie is never going to learn. I think we have a better chance of signing Albert Pujols and Derrek Lee before he learns that Mack is TERRIBLE in CF and Pods is TERRIBLE in LF. Right now, we have the worst defensive outfield in the history of everything with Mack, Pods, and Dye. $50 says Damon scores. Overexaggeration saying history. It's bar none the worst defensive outfield in the majors though.
-
Ha....when will they learn? What a freaking joke.
-
We need to get some momentum going against the Yanks, and this first inning by Freddy can go a long way into determining how the rest of this series will go.
-
Ah, the dreaded Sean Burroughs comparison for Sweeney.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 09:58 PM) Wow you almost made it one whole day without a subtle reference to WSI, you are about at Chase Utley territory now, closing in on Dimaggio. Wake me up when he gets into Ripken territory.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 09:57 PM) Ive seen fluff believe me, but these 2 articles were Ridiculous. A picture on the front page of the Trib, in which the caption says "sundays wave at wrigley" inspired the article? As if it were never done at Comiskey? (and Id love to see less of) The 20 reasons to keep going to Wrigley this season, could easily have been replaced with VASOXFans Reasons to Despair/Reasons to Hope post. I'm not sure, but I thought they were saying how the wave never happens at Wrigley. When I briefly looked at the article, I didn't think it was an actual "praise" piece regarding the wave.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 09:53 PM) 2005 was great and all, but that would top 2005. On second thought, it probably would, and beating the Cubs would be a big reason why. That would be more exciting, but the 2005 World Series championship will always be my best sports memory.
-
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 09:50 PM) Ok, the last few posts were pretty funny. But in all seriousness ........ Can you imagine if the SOX were to miraculously come back, win the division, roll thru the playoffs, and Win the WS? This WS would, in my mind, eclipse last years for just sheer excitement. Nothing will ever top the 2005 World Series. I don't care if Thome hits a walkoff grand slam in the 9th inning of game 7 of the WS against your Cubs.
-
QUOTE(sti3 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) Screw being excited about the wild card race, the sox are playing crappy baseball and the wild card is a joke. If my Illini are crappy in basketball next year you gonna tell me that we still have a shot at the Big 10 championship cause of the conference tournament? I couldn't disagree more.
-
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) yeah, really stepping out there, heh heh Thanks for the contributions to this thread. Someone criticizing me for supporting JimH is one of those things I never expected to happen. The only thing more shocking I've been accused of is when Milkman and I were called blindly-loyal homers for suggesting Jermaine Dye's option should be picked up.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 09:16 PM) I enjoyed it plenty. I'm just not big on the "in your face, we're kicking your ass" mentality. I don't like to celebrate until it's over or else I feel like it might come back to bite me in the ass. Karma, sort of. And for me, the entire playoffs was like one big game. I didn't move from the same spot for any of the games, wore the same sweatshirt, had the same little habits during the games. EDIT: And just to clarify that my mentality isn't always negative, I had a real feeling that Konerko was gonna hit a grandslam. We didn't have a lead of greater than 2 runs during the whole World Series. They were great games, but you could never feel too comfortable in them.
