QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) He was just an example, and even so thats not far off from what this rotation is doing day in and day out. He would have never approved of a trade to the AL. I don't see how someone can say Hernandez and Perez were had for nothing, as Nady is a pretty solid corner outfielder. He's had a lot of value for a few seasons now.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) If he's the best hitter on the team, and the best defensive first baseman, why was acquiring Jim Thome one of the reasons Paulie gave for re-signing? If Gload's a better hitter, wouldn't playing him regularly have sufficed? I don't know if anyone else saw it, but Gail Fischer was on Sports Page last night, and she went off on KW asking the big three for their advice on a trade. It was very interesting to hear a media member criticize KW that way. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) He is very well regarded and your right about his defense, but he's not been quite as hideous since he moved to 3rd base a year or so ago. But ya, this is a pretty highly touted kid who really hit well last year for Jacksonville in the Southern League. Yeah, the defensive reports I'm basing my statement off was from when he was at SS.

QUOTE(Reddy @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) lol yeah, i know... but he can hit! Yep, just ask his wife.

Joel Guzman is a terrible defensive player, but he's got some massive offensive potential.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) Did anyone hear DJ or Hawk say yesterday that Konerko said Gload would be the best hitter on the White Sox if he got regular playing time? I can't believe KW is getting roster advice from him. PK is the same person who has said for years that Gload is a Gold Glove caliber 1B. After 3 mediocre plays at 1B this wknd, I beg to differ.

It's pretty disappointing that the transaction that led to the most conversation on this board today was Maddux for Izturis.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) Its funny how much worse of a player Izturus has become on this board once its gone from KW wanting to get him, to his now being on the Cubs. I was cringing at the thought of KW trying to acquire him to play SS for us.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) Yeah, not lead off by any means. I was saying fast, and makes contact. He is better than what they have. I think he's overrated, and with the Dodgers loaded farm system, I would have thought the Cubs would have gotten one or two strong prospects from the Dodgers.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:10 PM) Top of the order, and to play 2b or SS. Its better than Nefi Perez, and they traded walker. Isn't he a low OBP guy who has a pretty big contract?
-
Where is Izturis going to play? If it's SS, then they just wasted more than half of the season with Cedeno over there. At least they have Neifi to fill in at 2B/SS if needed.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) That wouldnt be a bad transaction for them. But what do they need him for? With the money they'll have to spend this offseason, they'd be better off just signing better parts. Their infield defense is the least of their worries.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) Bombs Away Levine is saying Cesar Isturis That would be hillarious.
-
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:06 PM) Dodgers just for Maddux. For who?
-
Any big trade now is very likely Soriano to the Twins. Thus, I'd rather not here of any big transactions now.

QUOTE(champ @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) Okay... Why do some of you think that you have to make a deal. You don't just make a deal because you can. This team is very good already, and good enough to go all the way, there's no reason to risk something unless it's "can't miss". This team is very talented, but they're not very good right now. They have some holes that could have been fixed with an acquisition or two.
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) Well, Speed 2: Cruise Control IS on HBO right now. Can't miss that. Isn't the plot of Speed kinda similar to Vazquez? Once it gets over a certain number, it just explodes?
-
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) Chacon for Wilson official Does Brian Cashman have naked pictures of some GMs? This is another trade where he acquires a useful player for nothing.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:55 PM) Yanks are talking about acquiring Craig Wilson. Shawn Shacon was traded to the Pirates, is Wilson the guy coming back? What a novel concept...acquire a right handed power hitter off the bench that can play a few positions.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:46 PM) Doesn't bother me one bit that Stairs is out of KC, especially right before we play them. He can still hit and he's a pro's pro. Yeah, I like the move for Texas. They don't have a very good bench, and this will give them a veteran presence for late inning situations.
-
QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:39 PM) Jacque would be an improvement over Podsednik, but not a huge one. Not to mention the price we would probably have to pay to get him. The Cubs would love to get rid of his 3 year deal in order to free up money and playing time for a big name acquisition this offseason.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:36 PM) Vaz for the Chorizo sausage, straight up. At least the chorizo won't melt under pressure.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) And his high ERA. And his lackluster attitude.
-
My only hope is that in three years, we won't look back and think "what the hell were we thinking by making McCarthy an untouchable", in the same way that we were with Borchard a few years ago. I like McCarthy, but he's no sure thing to become a #1 or 2 starter.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) Disagree. O Perez has lost velocity and is basically worthless, Hernandez is old and done. Nady is a nice player, and has developed this year. I think the Pirates made a great deal here. Haven't there been a lot of rumors about Perez being a steroid guy? I'm a big fan of Nady, and this gives the Pirates some very good corner outfielders. That team desperately needs a CF though.

QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) Especially if we're banking on the White Sox making another move... It's funny, people totally forget we got MacDougle just a few days ago. I think people would be happier if MacDougal was able to play left field.
