QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:10 AM) But his veteran leadership will completely turn this team around. It doesn't matter that he's 47 years old. He would have been a great addition as a bench coach or a roving minor league instructor.

QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:10 AM) Fathom, negative will lead to NOTHING! Suck it up the bad times, and let's hope for the good times that will soon arrive. Tell that to the players. I don't want to hear quotes about how the players are waiting around knowing something bad is going to happen. Regardless of what Hawk says, there's a terrible vibe going on through the clubhouse right now.

I do question if everyone you mentioned is 100 pct focused on winning the game.

Who knows how true it is, but there's articles coming out now that suggest the Sox aren't a real player for Soriano. The more time that goes by, this looks like a Sox "leak" job to try and raise the price for the Tigers to pay for Soriano. I do wonder though if all of this trade talk might get the players waiting around hoping that a spark is acquired.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:28 AM) I'm sure glad we don't have Politte and Widger holding us back anymore! Look out AL, we upgraded our 24th and 25th roster spots. It's amazing that we might have found the one catcher active in the majors who wouldn't have been an upgrade over Widger. I like Sandy off the field...but he's a massive liability on the field now.

I think sometimes people forget how bad our offense was last year. One of the reason small ball seemed to help us win games is because it was the only way that team could score. I think sometimes people forget how bad our offense was last year. One of the reason small ball seemed to help us win games is because it was the only way that team could score. Do people not remember the pathetic swings we took against B. Backe in Game 4 of the World Series? How about how we went about 8 innings in Game 3 of the WS without a run?

One loss during our slump last year mentally pissed me off a lot more than 3 losses during this slump. Winning the World Series last year is the greatest sports moment of my life, and NOTHING will ever top it. Relax...it will be ok. If we don't make the playoffs, just go buy the DVD collection with all the games, and watch the 2005 playoffs while the 2006 playoffs are going on.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:34 AM) A real outfielder may have caught Bartlett's homer tonight, although it would have been a circus catch. Pablo should never see the OF on this team. It boggles my mind why the Sox don't have a right handed hitting outfielder in Gload's roster spot. A right handed hitting outfielder with speed. It didn't end up being a factor, but it's disturbing we didn't have anyone to pinch run for either Dye or Crede in the 9th inning.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:32 AM) I hope not. But I guess they would take Gload's spot so they really couldn't hurt. I do think KW is aiming higher though. He may have to settle. Flash Gordon is horrific right now.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:30 AM) The offense was due to slow down, and this team doesn't win when it scores 3 or fewer runs. So you either have to strengthen the pitching where it will give up 3 or less runs, or get more offense so it will score more than 3. I don't think Soriano is coming to the Sox, but I do believe KW will add to this roster. Adding another reliever isn't the answer to our problems right now. This team needs another outfielder badly.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:21 AM) Good post Parque. I disagree with your post getting mad at Oz for standing up for his mediocre starters, however. He shouldn't blast them in the media. The alarming thing about this slump is we're not winning at home. We go on the road and suck a week and we're gonna be 10 over .500 before long and 4 down in the wild card. Losing at home is not good. It sux. If we go to Baltimore and KC, and we fall that many games out, they might as well shut down this site.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:22 AM) On Comcast Sports Nite tonite (after the post game), Kerry Sayers said Chuck Garfein (also of CSN) reports that majore league sources tell him the White Sox have as many as three deals pending, all involving the White Sox improving their pitching. Take it for what it's worth. I will take it as KW intends to improve the pitching staff and we may see someone put on the DL (just my personal opinion on the latter part). Sorry I did not see your post. I was just watching the post game and the wrap up tonite at 10:15 pm or so. Roberto Hernandez or S. Torres, come on down.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:18 AM) I mentioned this in the game thread, but wouldn't everybody rather have seen Mack hitting than Cintron? Cintron's had success vs Nathan, so I'm sure that's why he was in. I would have rather seen Mackowiak leadoff the 8th inning, instead of Pods. This way, you can save Pods to pinch run in the 9th if anyone gets on. This is just exhibit 500 on why Ross Gload is worthless on this roster.

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:14 AM) only konerko, thome, crede and pyrzynski are horribly slow and smart ball can set the table for them instead of solo shots Dye isn't very fast on the bases, and Iguchi is almost deceptively slow. Thome hustles on the bases, so that makes up a little for his lack of speed. Anderson hardly ever gets on, so his speed is worthless. The funny thing is that the two people who's speed has helped us the most this year are Ozuna and Mackowiak.

QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:11 AM) No, it couldn't have anything to do with the fact that Scott Schoenweis was our 4th starter and we didn't have a #5 Well, according to Hawk, Ozzie very easily could have been 2 for 2 if those injuries didn't occur. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:12 AM) For next year. It's all about staying healthy for him.
-
Smart ball with this team is stupid. They're INCREDIBLY slow, and when you have a lot of powerful hitters, giving up outs isn't usually a wise thing. I didn't see people saying they missed small ball when Thome, PK, and Dye were in the top 10 in RBI. There's one thing I miss right now, and that's winning.
-
QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:05 AM) More like the 2004 White Sox. Right now I am reminded so much of that team, and their slump happened right around the trade deadline too. They had an excuse...injuries
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:57 AM) I believe this marks the fourth straight game in which the Sox have failed to have a hit with runners in scoring position. Can anyone confirm or deny? Iguchi had the homer with a RISP on Sunday. It's been ages since we had a single with RISP and 2 outs.
-
QUOTE(lukeman89 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:56 AM) out of all of the losses, this is one i can live with. we just got beat by good pitching. its not like jon koronka shut us down today, it was johan freaking santana. i was expecting this game to be close either way and the twins just ended up on top. If we're planning on tipping our cap every time we face Santana or Liriano the rest of the way, we might as well forfeit the rest of this season.
-
QUOTE(bulokis @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:55 AM) We are back to bowing down to the Twins again except last year. No matter what their budget is, they really have good players. We need to go back to basic that help us won it all last year. We need to get players that play good defense and play small ball. No, we need our starting pitchers to prevent the big innings. I'll take the offense we have this year over small ball any day. We're just in a bad slump right now. The last thing this team needs is to bring back guys like Rowand.
-
QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:53 AM) Would you have said that before the Boston series I think not.....our team showed a lot of hunger before this slump......Remember all the times this team just didnt give up.....so calm down it will pass Hunger = facing Russ Ortiz and Rodrigo Lopez
-
QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:51 AM) Does anyone still think this is a playoff team? I sure don't. They don't look like it, they don't play like it, and I'm not sure they have sufficient hunger for it. I know they won't always play this badly, but I don't see this team putting together the kind of runs it would take to overcome a 7.5 game deficit or hold off the Yankees and Twins for the wildcard. No team slumping ever looks like a playoff team. However, the Twins winning 33 out of 41 games, and having dominance in 40 pct of their games starting for them looks like the team to beat for the Wild Card.
-
Wait, is this a poll to say who we think is a loser on the team?
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:48 AM) Cintron = 2006 version of Timo. He is everywhere. He needs to get more ABs vs LHP.
-
QUOTE(bulokis @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:48 AM) Third place here we come. We just flat out suck. Gotta give it to the Twins, they want to win and they play hard to win. So far this series, Bartlett and Tyner are beating us. That's pathetic.
