BTW, Pods is 2-31 vs the Tigers this year.
-
What's Pods hitting against the Tigers this year?
-
Why would Bonderman ever throw Uribe a fastball on the inside corner?
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:20 AM) In about one more inning I would like to see Mack sitting on the bench and our good defensive CF in the game. It scares me in a 1-0 game having a corner OF in center. Especially this large CF. You know Ozzie usually waits until after Mackowiak bats in the 8th inning in order to bring in Anderson.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) Jenks the MVP of the team? I don't think so Hawk. With how crappy our starters/relievers have been at times this year, I'm not so sure he's not correct.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) Hawk believes in the rally crede. Strong, impressive commentary by Hawk during this AB.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:15 AM) His curve this year has been his biggest problem. He isnt getting on top of the pitch and he leaves it hanging. At least he is throwing more sliders on 2 strikes, than his curve. When he is ontop of it, it bites down and is a good K pitch. When he leaves it up, it gets hit hard. Vazquez has been hurt on his curve to righties this year, and his slider to lefties. All year, I've been wondering why he doesn't stick to fastball/curve/change against lefties, and fastball/slider vs righties.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:00 AM) So.. We're done with Pods and Uribe. Anyone else? Garcia, Widger, Gload
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:00 AM) Has Tejada finally gotten that wicked slider of his working? He could throw 7 innings of 2 run ball for us right? I'm actually of the opinion that with what's on the market, the best way to improve our pitching might just be going for the juggular on offense. I know it won't happen though, so the Tejada comment was just a shot at the trade winds phenomenon.

Very good pitch to Ordonez. Listening on the radio, Vazquez asked Farmio before the game how to pitch these guys. Farmio told him to keep throwing sinkers in to Ordonez, especially with RISP.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 11:53 PM) Its nice to see Uribe is back to his old tricks. He has one good month, then some more crap. Uribe is batting .190 this month. That plus his .167 April, and his .237 May, make his one good month June so great. June was nice because he adopted the spread stance. Like the foot tap before he kept his front closed. Well thats gone again. Another week of slumping, and this place will turn into tejadatalk.com.

Vazquez's control isn't sharp right now.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) Explain. Ozzie started a hit and run with Mack on first. Uribe flied out. Should Pods or Alex have bunted? Should Mack have stole second against Pudge? Simply put, the players aren't executing in situations when called upon. Instead, we end up giving away so many free outs, which is terrible when you have the explosive offense that we do.

The small ball portion of our game is so bad it's comical now.
-
Crede really seems to dominate the Tigers. Gotta keep adding on hits against Bonderman, and he's a hot-head on the mound, and he can lose his composure.
-
Another thing with Crawford, which likely would prevent a deal involving Fields.....the Durham Bulls moved B.J. Upton to 3rd base.
-
A couple of thoughts: - Vernon Wells is a superstar. If you can get him, I have no problem giving up Fields, Anderson, and big prospects. - Tampa doesn't want an outfielder in return for Crawford. They have a plethora of guys in their system.
-
Didn't see any of the game, but it was a great boost to come home and see the final score. Nice to see PK break out of his slump, as KW said the flu was really "kicking his ass" over the wknd.

ESPN Report: Kenny Looking at Scott Linebrink

Let me add this....in a perfect world, we would hold on to Fields the rest of this season, re-sign Joe Crede, and then Fields, Broadway, and Tracey (among others) as the centerpiece in a deal to either get Carl Crawford, D. Willis, or M. Cabrera. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 09:51 PM) You can't just GIVE someone to Cooper and say, "Take this guy, and fix him." Cooper works best with talented people who need to have their mechanics tinkered with, really. Thornton is a prime example, and I think one of the few examples. I believe I've read that Cooper is also good at helping pitchers develop offspeed stuff to balance their attacks. Contreras isn't an example of Coop's skills, of course. He was more fixed by his family, El Duque and Ozzie than Cooper. There's only so much he can do for Freddy, too, and Javier. Javier needs to be thought how to kill off a guy with two strikes on him. Actually, Cooper's been most effective when he gets his pitchers to ditch their 3rd and 4th pitches, and he has them focus on their main pitches. Cotts and Thornton throw 90 pct fastballs. And trust me when I say that there were some people on this site that thought Cooper could make any pitcher into a quality pitcher.

A couple of thoughts: - Joe Crede will be the Sox 3rd baseman for the next 5 years. - Josh Fields' stock is never going to be higher. - Josh Fields greatest asset to the Sox organization will be as a trade chip. I don't believe we'll ever see him with the White Sox at the big league level. - Personally, I'd rather get someone a little better for our long-term future than Linebrink. For everyone saying he's be easier to re-sign, have you forgotten the insane contracts that were signed by middle relievers this off-season? I don't want to have to offer him a 3/15 deal. -
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 12:43 AM) I never for a second was arguing that Posednik is anywhere near the hitter Abreu is. I was pointing to the fact that at every possible opportunity, someone has to rip the guy. Guess what, folks? It was fashionable to explain why Scottie is worthless last year. This year, it's cliche. But don't fret, I've heard Freddy Garcia is the new Pods. Maybe it's because he really isn't valuable, and it's amazing how overrated he's been by some Sox fans in his year and a half with the team. He has swung the bat better the last two games, so hopefully he's start making things happen again.

Just an absolutely hillarious inning. I wonder who Todd Walker will blame for his defense this inning. What a d#ck.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) Here we go again with the Pods bashing. I know it makes you Saber guys excited to point out what a worthless player he is, but if you haven't noticed, he is doing a pretty decent job of getting on base lately. I suppose it would be the ultimate coup d etat for the WS Saber community to replace worthless Pods with the god-like Abreu. No, it's actually the non-SABR guys that hate him. His defense is absolutely pathetic, and his fundamentals are laughable.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) We dont' have anywhere near the luck factor that we did last year. I criticize you often for complaining about bloopers, etc. However, I definitely agree that it seems we're not catching the breaks we got last year. It's funny, but the Tigers seem to be catching all the breaks now.
