QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:09 AM) Our offense looks horrible but our pitching can match anyone, I doubt the sox are going to lie down and die for these teams. We have played equally tough teams and I highly doubt Ozzie will let them lie down. Have some f***ing confidence people, they will atleast go .500. Our pitching can be as good as ever...but if we can't consistently score 4 runs against teams like the Red Sox, Yankees, Rangers, and A's.....we're going to have a hell of a team trying to beat them at the Cell with the ball flying out.
-
In all honesty, what do people think our lead will be after this week? We have 6 vs Yanks and Red Sox, while a red hot Indians team has 6 vs KC and Tampa. I'm hoping it's above 10 after Sunday.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:00 AM) Pods' 57th K looking of the year, it seems. D. Jimenez Jr.
-
Our 8-9-1 in the order has something like 7 hits in the last 7 games.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:59 PM) Having Timo DH is the same as having Borchard in RF last year. Their stats are very similiar. Except LTP could hit the long ball. I said yesterday I'd rather have Borchard playing than Timo. At least if Borchard hits the ball, he's a threat to contribute to the offense.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) Oh yah. If we play like crap for the next two months it certainly doesn't raise the playoff hopes. Wouldn't be a good thing to go into the postseason losing a bunch. But that doesn't make this a big game for El Duque because of that. I guarentee he isn't thinking about anything like that. He turns into a different monster in the postseason. Does it suck that he thinks liek that during the regular season? Sure. But that's the way it is. Ozzie Guillen Jr. better be careful if Duque turns into a monster....because the only thing he'll go after is people on the bench. I'll be shocked if he starts a game in the playoffs.

QUOTE(That funky motion @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) I just sick of Ozzie saying we dont play exciting bb and the he doesnt ever have Dye bunt the guys over. He puts the team in a situation to play homerun ball! Make them BUNT! MOVE GUYS OVER! Dye can't bunt. He's tried before, and he can't. I'm happy he let Dye swing away. You can't try to play for one run when you have someone like Duque facing a great lineup like the Yankees.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:47 PM) And winning a game on August 8th would give you that? I hope our players aren't mental midgets like that. No, but going through the motions for the last two months of the season is a recipe for disaster. A perfect example is our last playoff team.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) We are 13 games up. If we have anymore regular season "big games" it means we have choked like no other team in the history of MLB. In that case we don't deserve anything so it wouldn't matter. We are not going to lose this division. Not even close. Teams have blown double digit leads before in August. There's absolutely no guarantees in sports. We're not that dominant of a team that we can just play like crap every game, and play .500 baseball. Our schedule is very difficult, and even though it's unlikely....it's possible that we could play .333 ball for an extended period.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) Otherwise we have no big games until October. You do know it's August 8th, right? I think even the optimistic posters on this site would say that you're belief we have no big games for the rest of the season is insane and naive.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) This is a big game for people who think we have something to prove, which we don't, or for people worried we won't win the division, which we will. I'm sure El Duque wants to win, but this is not a big game in any stretch of the imagination. Wow. So we should treat this like a game against the Devil Rays?
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) They are who I am assuming we will use. Unless we are in a position where we HAVE to use El Duque. Exactly. And you better believe Ozzie would rather start Duque than Contreras. My opinion is that I'll worry about postseason rotation when we get there. Still have to win enough games to make the playoffs.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:36 PM) I think he can be. He pitches well when he wants to pitch well. In big games. This is not a big game. Oh my! This isn't a big game? Going back to face the team you've been a big player on for your entire career? If this isn't a big game for Duque, he's half the competitor I thought he was.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) Yah, I know. They are awesome. When he starts to actually suck in the postseason, then you can say he's not a postseason pitcher anymore. I'd personally rather not see him pitch in the postseason. I don't see why we can't just have the big 3 go.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) Last time you said that -- "I expect both teams to score double digits" -- you were wrong. In fact, if I wanted to go back throughout all of the gamethreads, I'd have to think that 75% of your gamethread 'something-goes-wrong-early' predictions are wrong. I hope most of them are wrong....or else I'd be nuts not to be in Vegas betting on every game.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) I agree. I mean look at his postseaon starts this year. All crap. He's nowhere near the postseaon pitcher he was, because you can only tell that by looking at his postseason starts, and man has he sucked in those this year.... He's talking about the stuff he has now. His K numbers are way down from last season (one of the best exhibits of the stuff a guy has). He's had so many injury problems, that he has to throw with all guts a lot of the time. Please, please, please...don't tell me you think he's the same pitcher now that he was a few years ago?
-
Did anyone expect Duque to shut down the Yankees? We have no chance to win these games against Yanks without scoring at least 5 runs.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) He's not half the postseason pitcher he was. He's not even close. And we need a f***ing offense, especially with Pods doing his impression of one of the worst leadoff hitters in baseball recently. We need a slugger before the waiver deadline passes. I agree. The more optimistic posters will bite our heads off...but this isn't a playoff caliber team right now (how they're playing right now). We just need more offense to compete against some of these great AL offenses. We'd be great in the National League. The fact Timo is still playing so much, when he's been worse than anyone.....is bulls***!
-
And this is why anyone who'd want Duque to start over the big 3 in the playoffs is nuts.
-
During the playoff season from a couple of years ago, White Sox were down 1 against the Yankees and Rivera after a long rain delay. Carlos homered to tie the game leading off, and then Valentin had a bloop single to win it. Great game for the few that stayed during the delay.
-
Can Timo please leave this team? He better not be starting this coming week against the Yankees and Red Sox.
-
Who's warming up? Can Ozzie resist using Jenks as a closer, like he's said he wants to do sometime this year?
-
Especially cause Rowand didn't really jump for that ball. He's really lucky he didn't hurt himself, as he didn't brace himself at all.
-
Wow, what a great catch by Rowand. I don't think he had a clue where the wall actually was. That ball definitely looked like it was going to get out of the park.

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Marte scares me.... Thought for sure he was walking Ibanez. Politte has got to keep the ball up here, as Sexson will be swinging for the downs.
