  1. Does it seem like we never try a hit-and-run?
  2. Meanwhile, D. Ward botches a grounder, and the Cubs have comeback to take the lead again in the 9th against Mesa.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2005 -> 06:57 PM) Not even close on Pods Look at Drese's slid-step. He's extremely quick to the plate. Also, Barajas has a very quick release.
  4. Hey Ozzie, Drese has a slide-step. That's now 3 of our last 5 outs made on the bases. That's not Ozzieball.....that's Stupidball.
  5. QUOTE(ptatc @ May 18, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) Everybody told me I was over reacting when I complained about this in ST. We needed to work on base running then and we still need to work on it. I was mad when Pods got picked off twice last week in one game, but that's a lot more understandable than guys like Everett and AJP getting picked off.
  6. AJP getting picked off looks to have cost us a run. Hopefully, Buehrle can continue to blank the Rangers.
  7. We have got to stop making outs on the bases. There's a difference between being aggressive, and playing dumb baseball.
  8. Terrible inning there by our hitters. Swinging at balls a foot off the plate is not a good recipe for success.
  9. Good job by Buehrle overcoming just a terrible non-called 3rd strike against Tex.
  10. Umpire screws Buehrle on a pitch that clearly got a lot of the plate, and Texas gets two straight hits after it.
  11. I'm honestly convinced that one of the main reasons for Rowand swinging good right now is that he's no longer hitting behind guys like PK, Dye and Everett. Those guys don't have near the quality at-bats that Pods and Iguchi do. Thus, when Rowand gets to the plate, he's able to see more pitches before he hits and is in a better frame of mind.
  12. Any word on lineups? I have a feeling Ozzie won't start Pods today.
  13. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 17, 2005 -> 04:18 AM) You gotta hand it to the faithful out there. Kong has done nothing but dissappoint in the clutch and yet they give him all they can cheering for him. One of these days he's gonna have to start giving them something to cheer about. Actually, he had a huge 2 RBI single on Friday night that gave us the lead for good. PK has plenty of company in the non-clutch room this year (Everett, Timo, Crede).
  14. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 17, 2005 -> 03:19 AM) I called that long ago and everyone jumped down my throat about it. I would say its nice to be vindicated but not when its like this. Nuke....I thought it was you who said that, and I agreed with you. It will continue to get ugly for El Duque pitching at the Cell with warm weather if he doesn't start to get a shread of command.
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 17, 2005 -> 03:14 AM) His GIDP was a killer tonight. What pissed me off is Everett's stupid 2 strike swing on that DP. He knew he needed to hit a flyball, but if you look at the replay, he basically just guided the ball right to the SS. That's just not very smart baseball.
  16. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 17, 2005 -> 03:15 AM) Here's the thing about the pitching -- we KNEW we'd get this out of Hernandez when we signed him. That's why we got him cheap. I still think it was a good signing, don't get me wrong. But he's our 4th or 5th starter, definitely 5th if durability plays into it. I think we just have to endure this. El Duque was hanging by a thread in nearly every start he had this year. It's just a matter of time before his 6 IP, 2 ER games become 5 IP, 5 ER.
  17. This game showed the little things during a game that we were doing earlier, but we're not now. We didn't hit into many DP earlier in the season, but now we seem to be hitting into them whenever there's RISP now. If Everett just hits a routine flyball, we scored a run during the middle innings. No shock with Ozzie leaving El Duque in about 3 batters too long, which results in Barajas RBI single.
  18. Everett has been absolutely brutal with RISP lately, especially with less than 2 outs.
  19. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 17, 2005 -> 03:09 AM) How long are we going to say that? Until we are 27-20? No kidding. We're 4.5 games in front of the Twins, who look to have just as strong of a team as they did last year with their great bullpen and the emergence of Morneau and Mauer. Is our current team good enough to outlast the Twins.....NO. We need to either get better performances from our hitters, or we need to make some changes. No way our pitching can keep up the pace they had for the first 30 games.
  20. I don't care what our record says, we're not a good team right now. Our starting pitching has been less than stellar over last 10 games, and our bullpen has been brutal (besides Cliff and Herm). We have way, way, way too many easy outs in our lineup right now. PK and Everett continue to have terrible ABs with RISP.
  21. Jabroni was definitely saying that Dye should have batted instead of Ozuna.
  22. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 17, 2005 -> 02:25 AM) That made no sense. I was calling for Dead in the chat room. At least Dead has a chance at hitting a homer versus a lefty. Stupid move by Ozzie. This is one of those games where you need your manager to make the smart decisions (starting pitcher struggling, offense looking like s***). Ozzie is having a bad managerial game tonight (3 in a row shockingly).
  23. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 17, 2005 -> 02:18 AM) What exactly is a winner? Is Scott Podesdnik a winner? Willie and Timo have selfish attitudes. You can see that in the way they play. I bet if Carlos Lee would have weakly flown out on a 2-0 pitch with that type of uppercut swing, Ozzie would have complained about it after the game.
