  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:01 AM) Thats why getting Huff NOW makes the trade that much more important. Couldn't agree more. I think it's obvious PK is gone after this year. Thus, it's either Huff at 1b, or probably moving Dye to 1b. I'd be pretty content with both.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:01 AM) That is true. But some seem to think he always was and STILL is on the market? Either way, they will get a lot for him when they are ready to deal him. That guy has talent! Brewers still have an outside chance at the WC. I believe they're only 6.5 games out right now. Overbay is the fan favorite there also. He's not going anywhere, and I wouldn't be shocked if he's there for a few more years (I know they've discussed the outfield with him, I think he might be too slow though).
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:58 AM) Overbay? Although he is supposedly off the market... He never was on the market. Brewers would be foolish to trade him now. They'd get a lot more value for him if they trade him in the offseason, when more teams are looking to upgrade at 1b. PK will be the class of the FA 1b market....and after that, it's awful. Overbay will be in high demand.
  4. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:56 AM) I'd still like a blockbuster trade getting a middle of the order bat But doesn't look like that's happening, so i'll be willing to settle for a huff type situation i guess. In this market, Huff is the biggest blockbuster middle of the order guy you could get that wouldn't set your team back financially for years to come.
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:55 AM) I think another starter could have been helpful down the stretch, but IMO, would have been nice for the future. While it's all about this year, and well it should, I am still looking ahead, and a guy like Burrnet I would have been happy to have taking Jose's spot in the rotation for the next 3 years, but it just wasn't in the cards. Here's the thing: there wasn't a chance in hell Burnett was going to sign here. Thus, I'm happy we didn't trade for him.
  6. Anyone else thrilled though that we're not playing until tomorrow night? Thus, we can just sit back and follow the trade deadline rumors without having to watch the game also.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:51 AM) I like you better outside the gamethreads I agree, I probably contribute a lot more to this site outside of the gamethreads. In the heat of the moment, everyone says stuff that they'd rather not.
  8. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:50 AM) No way. KW better not give up that much. Did you see the prospects that Tampa wanted in the proposed Manny deal? We're not talking about guys people think we'll trade on here, like Tracey or Baj.
  9. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:47 AM) See Tony, I don't b**** ALL the time! It really is something that we're seemingly forgetting about. A lot of these teams trying to make trades are doing so just to have a chance to make the playoffs. Most of these teams would trade every single prospect they had in order to get a lead as big as the Sox have right now. Maybe it's just me, but I never saw the point of trading for another starting pitcher. We have our main 3 guys, and those are the pitchers who deserve to start in the playoffs IF we get there. If we don't make it, we don't deserve to.
  10. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:45 AM) this site is going to go down no matter what happens tommorow. There will be b****ing aplenty, deal, no deal, good deal, bad deal. And no matter what happens, we'll still lead our division by no less than 12.5 games tomorrow.
  11. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:42 AM) This site who go down in flames...... I fully expect a meltodwn tomorrow on this site. I've seen enough prospects flame out in our system that it won't faze me if we lose some of these guys.
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:37 AM) Well take this with a grain of salt since it's the Ny Daily News, actually that probably means it won't happen: While the Sox chose to sit Ramirez vs. the Twins last night at Fenway for unspecified reasons, Tampa Bay was nearing a deal that would ship Aubrey Huff - one of Boston's primary acquisitions in the Ramirez blockbuster - to the White Sox. That's good to hear, but just a word of warning to people here. If we do acquire Huff and/or Baez, it's going to cost a lot more than people think it will. Just like the Garcia trade, there will be some player involved in the deal that we never expected. Personally, I think Gio will be the surprise. My prediction for the trade is Huff and Baez for McCarthy, Gio, and Sweeney.
  13. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:12 AM) Its funny! They are becoming more like us last year and we are like them last year. At this point, it's more like how it was a few seasons ago when we couldn't get within 10 games of them in the 2nd half, no matter what we did.
  14. rotoworld is reporting he left with a sore hamstring.
  15. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:07 AM) They do need O but, with the loss of Hunter getting Soriano will kind of bring them back to where they were 2 days ago. Hunter is a huge blow to this team. He saves a lot of HR and doubles in that park. The difference between Hunter and Soriano on defense is basically the same as the difference between Soriano and Hunter on offense. The Twins have received no production from 2nd base all year, and I'd much rather face them 13 more times with Boone there instead of Soriano.
  16. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) LOL! This would be the best deal ever!!!! Exactly what the Twins don't need... a selfish ego driven 200 K player who has crappy defense and will drop team morale... If this deal goes down i'll have a smile on my face for a week... I don't think I could disagree more. Twins need offense, and no matter what anyone says, Soriano is one of the elite offensive players in the league. At this point, the Twins would be smart to sacrifice some defense for better offense.
  17. QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:53 AM) AUstin Kearns just was pulled from the game after getting walked with the bases loaded......i assume Austin, HE GAWN, but to whom? Cubs?
  18. QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:56 AM) 3-4 prospects make sense, thats what they were gonna get in the 3 team deal with BOS and NYM, as long as it isnt 4 of our top 10 prospects, it might be ok It will definitely be 4 of our better prospects. The guys they were supposed to get in the Bos/NYM trade were top-notch. I have a feeling if this trade goes down, there's going to be a lot of people shedding a tear over their favorite prospects gone.
  19. Mackowiak gives you power off of the bench. Just as he's in a funk right now, he has the ability to catch fire and be a real offensive contributor. That's a lot more than we can say for Willie. We don't need a back-up 2nd baseman anyways, with Ozuna on the roster.
  20. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) s***, we just won 2 games with our Cubans against a good hitting O's team. Not only that, we now have the next 24 hours to discuss every single f'n trade rumor.
  21. Great win today. If you're going to rely on the long ball.....make those homers count!
  22. Oh boy, here we go again. Not a good start giving up a 2 strike hit to Fasano. Hermanson has got to keep his splitter down.
  23. Two straight games for Iguchi with singles up the middle against Kline. Kline is so overweight now....and to think some wanted him in case we got rid of Marte.
  24. QUOTE(Yoda @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) NOW... who pitches the bottom of the 9th? That is if Hermanson is not available. I bet he's available. Cooper would be lying if he wasn't.
  25. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) That was just good hitting. Lopez was taking some great swings against Marte. I was happy he just had a single on the play.
