BTW, Huff is in the starting lineup today for the DRays. Likely means he's not going anywhere, with the game being schedule 2 hours before the deadline.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan13 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) Something for next to nothing. ^5 Kenny for adding this depth to our bench. So who do you guy's think is gone from the 25 man? Jenks, Gload, Harris, Timo? Harris, no doubt about it.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) According to ESPN Radio 1000's Bruce Levine, the White Sox have traded LHP Ryan Meaux for San Deigo's Geoff Blum. This is a good trade. You'd have to give up a lot more to get Mackowiak, who's been just awful since the ASB.

QUOTE(Ishmookie @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) he's still a good closer. 1-6 record with a 3.92 ERA and a 1.5 WHIP isn't what I would declare a good closer. Combine that with the fact he's a dickhead, and that he's old.....and I'd rather have Viz on my team than him.

QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Ok. I can't take it anymore. Do y'all remember when there were actually threads about whether you would rather win a world series or hold on to BMAC? I called this back before he ever started a major league game. A prospect is a prospect. Can you imagine asking the same question now? He will still probably be very good, but he is not Roger Clemens. Let's win now and everytime BMAC comes back to haunt us, I can look at a Sox world series poster or something. I would trade him for Aubrey Huff, absolutely. Aubrey Huff would start EVERY game of the playoffs, not just the first. McCarthy's trade value will never be higher than it is right now.

BTW, Soriano is in the starting lineup today. Their GM said he wouldn't start if he was possibly going to be traded. I don't want him going to my two hated teams, the Cubs and Twins.
-
QUOTE(Ishmookie @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) id rather have a relief pitcher like jose mesa than a guy like huff Oh dear lord Nothing like adding a clubhouse cancer to your team. Mesa would be the 5th best reliever on our team.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) What you might see is Kenny try making a deal without Brandon and then if it really gets close and Lamar still won't agree on anything then Brandon might be included. Obviously I'd love to make a deal without him included but if needed I'd be fine trading him, I really want Huff on this team. I'm not going to be mad if KW can't make a move because the demands are too high. However, that's not going to stop me from b****ing if our offense goes into the s***ter the rest of the way with Everett at DH and Willie playing a lot at 2nd base. My one hope is that KW and Ozzie aren't getting caught up reading the standings, and thinking that there's no reason to improve this team.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) Who are we really competing for with respect to Huff? Boston? I don't think so. You think if Boston isn't able to unload Manny Ramirez that they are still shopping their best prospects to TB for Aubrey Huff? Is anyone else in the Huff market? Either TB is going to come down in price for Huff, or they are going to end up keeping him. Both results would be fine would me. Tampa supposedly likes Boston's offer for Huff more than they do the White Sox offer.

QUOTE(Ishmookie @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) i knew aj would be a solid player. his rep was a total misunderstanding. he just wants to win I like AJP as much as the next person, but his rep was totally deserved. He was a total prick with the Twins and Giants. Nothing like the uncertainty of a multi-year contract to get someone in the proper attitude.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) Not a chance in hell. Widger's a good defensive catcher, Olivo isnt. Ozzie and the pitchers hated Olivo. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but I have a feeling the new testing in baseball hurt Olivo.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:34 PM) Would you have traded Mark Buehrle in 2000 for a role player like Huff? (I'm not saying McCarthy is Buehrle, but he's got too much upside not to find out.) Maybe it's just me, but I don't watch McCarthy pitch and think "wow, this guy has amazing upside". And yes, I think if McDowell pitched in the Cell with the way the ball carries now, he would have had a lot of problems keeping the ball in the park.

QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) I agree. Quite frankly ( Stephen A. Smith is gay), I haven't agreed with a lot of what you have said recently but I can see where you are coming from. Don't attack people personally, just because some people post more often than others, it does not give them the right to belittle the opinion of others as stupid or unknowledgable. I'm still not exactly sure why a mod was allowed to refer to some on this site as f***ers yesterday. Oh well, it's only a message board
-
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) I don't believe anything anyone says: Levine, Ofman or Gammons. Kenny will do what he thinks is necessary and if that means McCarthy, then we'll see him later. No offense, but they still have a lot more inside information than any of us jabronis on a message board.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) I've got absolutely no problem at all including Anderson in a deal. He's got the least upside out of any of the 3, and it's likely Pods, Rowand and Dye are going to be around for a while yet. And yeah Gonzalez is expendable, I think he'll be a good one, but we've got good SP depth in the minors now. A guy like Tyler Lumsden for example, could move quickly still like J.P Howell IF he stays healthy once he gets back from his current injury. Remember, Ozzie loves Sweeney. Sweeney is likely an untouchable.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) I've posted off an on this board and others for several years. No one has ever directed this kind of talk at me. It has no place on a board of this kind. If you think my point makes no sense, by all means rip it. But there is no reason to make a personal attack. I've never made one against any of you.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) We'll need to see how Gio performs in AA and possibly AAA next season to give us a clearer picture of his future, but the likes of Kris Honel and Ryan Wing have dominated in A ball before getting stuck at B-Ham. I still like Gio as a Zito pitcher, and I think he'll turn out to be a similar version. Fields is interesting though. He's turned it around, and with the way Upton has been playing defense in the minors, it's a logical fit. Can he hit above say .250-.260 though? I don't know. I'm just saying that I think our farm system could afford to give these guys up, and not lose a step. As much as I'd be willing to trade him, losing McCarthy would be a much bigger blow to the farm system. Also, our 3 young stud outfielders give us a huge trade chip this offseason. It's not like we don't have outfielders at the MLB level we're looking to replace.

I'm predicting a Timo sighting tonight.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) I might start Huff ahead of Everett myself, but I'm not sure Ozzie would. Even so, the marginal difference between Everett and Huff is not worth surrendering "the next Jack McDowell," now is it? Look at Oakland. You think Billy Beane would give up any of his 5 starters for Aubrey Huff? Is McCarthy as good as at least 3 of them? McCarthy isn't better than any of the Oakland starting pitchers. Also, I guarantee you that Jack McDowell wouldn't have done very well at the launching pad that is the Cell in the summer. I love these comparisons of someone being "the next". How's "the next" Mark McGwire doing for Charlotte this season (Borchard). He's gone from LTP to DFA.

BTW, Mackowiak isn't playing for the Pirates today. D. Ward and Lawton are though.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) That means we're focusing soley on getting Huff, and nobody else in baseball? That's what it sounded like.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) I'm calling your bluff with Josh Fields, Gio Gonzalez and a PTBNL. I wouldn't mind that trade at all. No baseball scouts I've talked to project Fields as a solid MLB hitter right now. And for some reason, as much as Gio seems like he's going to be a star....I just get visions of another Arnie Munoz.
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Oh, so you're just completely ignorant. Got it. I'm done. You go ahead and trade Arnie Munoz for Aubrey Huff...let me know how that works out for ya.

Just saw where the Score is reporting it's Huff or bust right now, with McCarthy not being involved in the deal. There's not a chance in hell we get Huff without giving up BMac.
