  1. Before people freak out if Grimsley shuts us down, his 7 ERA has only been in a few appearances. He's not that bad of a pitcher. For their sake, he better not be. They gave up a great pitching prospect for him.
  2. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) Geez. Come on guys, please keep the trade talks in the trade forum. Every thread ends up turning into this of late. Nothing new ever comes to the table in these discussions either. I agree, I'm sick as hell of all this trade s***, especially when a game is going on. However, I don't see a problem with someone coming into the gamethread and updating us on what they've just heard, etc. However, I do agree that last night the gamethread was taken over by the Manny stuff, etc.
  3. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) why does Juan swing at the first pitch. My god, every time. Cause he has no clue what he's doing at the plate.
  4. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) I wouldn't go that far... Whenever a hitter knocks the opposing pitcher out of the game, he should be congratulated. I'm not wishing for an injury at all!
  5. QUOTE(whitesox89 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) since most of us are in here. I was jw if anyone heard George Offman was on the Score a little bit ago and said the White Sox are still going after Huff but also are now calling Pittsburg about Robb Mackoviak (sp?) I love Mackowiak, but he's been just brutal since the ASB. 4-32, I'm pretty sure he's hitting. He's a good fit for this team though, so I won't be too upset if we get him. He is a Cubs killer, and also a Sox fan.
  6. That looks like a broken hand. Orioles have used a ton of relievers lately. Well done Crede!!!
  7. Good first inning for Contreras. Nice to see Tejada bat with no one on base.
  8. Am I the only one who hates seeing Pods run with 2 strikes on Iguchi? Iguchi definitely seems to get distracted when the runner is in motion, and he's K'd a ton this year because he's trying to protect the runner. Just an observation I've made over the course of this season. And yes, Pods is in a massive stealing slump right now.
  9. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) Does anyone else worry that two Devil Rays are not the answer? Huff is a better hitter than anyone on our team. However, Baez isn't someone I'd trust.
  10. The feeling I'm getting is that the DRays are asking for a TON for Huff and Baez. Look at the 4 players that were rumored to be going there in the Manny deal? Those are 4 of the higher rated prospects in baseball. That would be like the Sox giving up McCarthy, Anderson, Young, and Gio. I have a feeling this was the trade proposal that KW mentioned in today's paper where it makes him shed a tear at how insane it is.
  11. What's the point of using Politte for 2 innings here? He just seems to be overthrowing just a tiny bit, and it's hurt his control lately. His ball is tailing inside (example Sweeney's homer) instead of staying on the corner like it was for the majority of this season.
  12. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:18 AM) what is so bad about a .253 average from the #8 spot. As far as Boras he doesn't have as much leverage as you think for an arbitration case. Gagne lost his arbitration case after he tied Smoltz record for saves in the NL and boras is his agent. It's no secret Boras and JR hate each other. And those numbers from the 8 spot aren't that bad....but doesn't there become a point in a player's career where you want to see him make improvement? Why sign him long-term if they feel Fields can play there in 2007 or 2008?
  13. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:17 AM) Hasn't Politte been worked like a dog? Give this guy a few f***ing days off. Ozzie probably wants him to go right back out there and get his confidence back.
  14. Time to get Politte back on track. Well done Duque!!!
  15. Cotts should start this inning. Gotta avoid Tejada coming up as the tying run, etc.
  16. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:14 AM) what is everyones problem with Crede? he puts up good numbers for a #8 hitter. plus he is the best defensive 3B in the AL by a lot to. By a lot? I disagree with you on that. Anyways, Crede hasn't shown much improvement during his MLB career so far. Also, Boras is his agent. Thus, it wouldn't shock me to see Crede gone after this season or next season.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:12 AM) LOL, I agree, but I'm looking at it from the Red Sox angle, Manny off that team is a major move for the AL, I think if they don't get value (I don't know if that exists for Manny though), they take a serious step back. They could free up a ton of payroll to re-sign Damon, and get some better starting pitcher. I could see them getting AJB then.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) Yeah, this isn't Pittsburg though, there's no way Epstein will get away with trading Manny without getting serious major league help right now. This isn't Nomar from last year. Manny is a whole different animal. Not that I don't think the Cubs may pull it off, but it's going to cost a lot, and I think the lack of an impact OFer to trade might cost them. I know I'm as guilty of this as anyone, but I don't feel like wasting more of my precious few brain cells discussing possible Cubs trades. If I wanted to hear talk about that, I'd put on the dumbest Cubs fan alive (Mike Murphy). BTW, what's Ron Santo's favorite restaurant........IHOP!
  19. There's a huge difference between Wagner and Marte. I like Marte, but he's not throwing the ball well at all this season. Wagner is the type of closer you need in the launching pad they play in. I do agree with the thought that McCarthy could be used to get AJB then.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) I think that's a possibility, only problem is the Red Sox seem to want two quality major leage ready outfielders or one OF and pitcher. I don't think Gerut or Burnitz will get it done, and I don't think the Red Sox would want Maddux Hill, Patterson, Ryan Harvey, and another prospect for Manny.
  21. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:04 AM) Your joking Right?? ManRam is owed about 20 mil for the next 3 years, highly unlikely the Trib would take on that salary unless they move Aramis or Wood. I could totally see the Cubs spending that money on Manny.
  22. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) Steve Stone was on PTI mentioning a package that included Aramis Ramirez, Patterson, Mitre and a couple of minor leagers for Manny and Mueller. They won't give up Aramis. Hendry will find a way to make the other team sell low, I'm sure.
  23. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:02 AM) and how? That would be a dumb trade to make. Why not? Have you seen their LF?
