I'm just sick of PK's approach. In big situations, it really looks like he's just trying to hit a homer instead of just getting the 2 rbi single, etc. He used to be such a tough out at the plate, because he'd just serve the ball wherever it was pitched. Now, he's a one-dimensional hitter. I don't see him coming back to the Sox next year.

I was actually thinking tonight that Soriano could be the big offensive weapon we needed. Texas is at .500 now, and looks to have a slim chance to win the wild card. With the Rangers needing pitching, I'm sure McCarthy would be intriguing to them. If we were to acquire Soriano, we could switch him between 2b and DH.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 03:39 AM) Would you like to be higher in ba, obp, and ops and lower in runs scored?? Personally, I think we're going to have to wait until after the season to realize what's more important. Earlier in the year, we were capitalizing on everything (we also feasted off of some terrible bullpens). If we don't capitalize on our opportunities, then our run total is going to plummet. We need someone to get locked in like Dye was before the ASB.

KC pushed back Greinke a day, so we'll end up facing him on Monday. He always seems to pitch us tough. I mentioned this earlier, but if we lose that KC series, I have a feeling that a meltdown will be in place.

Vernon Wells isn't being traded.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:36 AM) I can't see them dealing Lawrence. Eaton is out for awhile with his finger injury and SD is competing for the NL West division. They can't get rid of an important SP without a SP in return. Eaton can't throw a curve for the rest of the season because of elbow pain. Lawrence isn't a good pitcher. Petco to the Cell is just a huge mental difference.

I think a more likely location for PK could be the Mets. Maybe we could swing a 3-way deal with them and the Reds. Mets have some good pitching prospects that the Reds might want. The last thing we should do is trade PK for a pitcher though. If the organization really thinks Dye can play 1b, then I'm not against putting Rowand in RF, and KG Jr. in CF.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:32 AM) Awful offensive effort. It's getting very worrisome.....even for me. For some reason, I dont know if it's cause Dye's out of the lineup, we just seem to have a really bad lineup lately. We needed a knuckleballer to make our bat speed look good.

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:30 AM) I don't want to see Harris in the lineup.........AGAIN!! If Harris is on the team, he needs to start against pitchers that have splits like Arroyo does. It's not like Iguchi is tearing the cover off of the ball.
-
Here's what the lineup should be tomorrow, but it wont be: LF Pods CF Rowand RF Everett DH PK 1b Gload C AJP 3b Crede SS Ozuna 2b Harris Remember, Arroyo is lights out against righties.

My fear is that when we play these teams with great offenses (Red Sox, Rangers, Tigers, Yankees), unless we get a great pitching performance (like we have the last two games), we need our offense to overachieve in order to outscore the opposition. It's almost the opposite of how it was in the past.

BTW, Omar is hitting .380 with RISP this season.

QUOTE(Big Hurtin @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:21 AM) Damn, people just don't get it. There are still over two months of baseball left to play before the playoffs. Being 10 games up doesn't mean anything. Talk to me after they play the Red Sox, Yankees, and Twins (who have been a second half team for years). Unfortuately, it will be past the trading deadline. Kenny doesn't want to upset chemistry. This team will fade and get bounced out of the playoffs if they still get in. All because they were content to be good, and afraid to be great. Just be thankful this slump is taking place now, and not in two weeks. It's a good thing that Ozzie/KW are seeing this team struggle right now. I don't think it's critical to say they've been a little full of themselves lately. I've seen way too many comments about how if it's not broke, we won't fix it.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) People need to put this into their memory banks when we talk trade. During the AJ trade talks Martes name has been included and everyone went nuts saying we cant get rid of Marte. Marte is inconsistant, he has a hard time getting out lefties, and he gives up gopher balls in crucial situations. I bet he is gone. There's no rule that states you have to have 2 lefties in your bullpen. Most teams would love to have just one lefty like Cotts. Politte has been excellent vs lefties this year, and Viz is usually solid against them.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:14 AM) Right, so get another bat that can help you manufacture runs and can help the team on defense. Emphasis on "manufacture" runs. If the team has been having so many bad at bats, get a guy who generally has good at bats and fits the scheme of what they want to do, which is play excellent fundamental baseball. JimH...we don't agree on much, but your 2nd paragraph is exactly the way I feel about Uribe vs Vizquel. I'm so sick of guys just giving away outs with terrible approaches at the plate.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:16 AM) Bill Melton also just said that with 2 men on in the 9th, Rowand was probably trying to hit a home run. They have had 2 meetings in the last month about pitch selection and working the counts. Nothing seems to be working. Uribe just reacts. Even though I was upset with the result, it's not terrible that Rowand was swinging at first pitch. Schilling never walks hitters, and you want to hit his fastball instead of his splitter. I think Rowand was in-between on whether to pull the ball, or go the opposite way, and he ended up jamming himself.

We're not trading PK, that I will guarantee you. How many times do you see a team with a 10 game lead trade their marquee offensive player?
-
QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:11 AM) He's a very streaky hitter and while he would be an upgrade over Crede offensively, he isn't a big presence that would help the lineup. As for Freel, please don't lump him in with Pablo Ozuna. Freel can play anywhere but does this crazy thing called take walks. Like I said, Freel has off the field issues that I'm not sure KW would be thrilled to trade a top prospect for.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:11 AM) As much as I would have been opposed to this as little as a week ago, I think KW should make a run at Griffey. With Thomas out, he can save his legs part time and DH him. He still has prodigious power. His bat has slowed so he may flourish in the breaking ball happy AL. I have no idea what Cincinatti would want. I doubt they want any outfielders, and how much you gave up probably is tied to how much of the contract you are willing to assume. They want pitching, and more pitching. Depending on how much money they'd pay of Griffey's contract, I'd give them McCarthy, and a few more higher level prospects.
-
QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:09 AM) I agree. We still gotta face the Yankees and they have gotten healthy. That frightens me. So you're saying you don't think we can beat them in low scoring game at the Cell?
-
QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:09 AM) well. lets win two of four and then kick kansas city's ass and things should be ok. If we think things are bad now, I can't imagine what it will be like if we lose 2 out of 3 to KC, with our top 3 pitchers going.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) Well, you can revamp it by getting one guy, and that guy is Vizquel. I couldn't agree with you more. Vizquel is always a tough out, and someone the opposition doesn't want to face in a big situation. I GUARANTEE you that he can hit a sac fly just as well as Uribe can.
-
QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:06 AM) The problem is that there really isn't a whole lot on the trade market in terms of players who will significantly upgrade the offense. Mackowiak or Freel would be nice additions, but there needs to be a massive revamping of the infield which KW seems to be afraid of, and I don't really blame him much. Mackowiak doesn't seem to be doing very well lately. And in case you weren't in chat the other day, Freel has off the field issues. We don't need another righty utility infielder.

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:04 AM) I totally disagree with you, they have not drawn very well last 3 years and SOX have to show people something when the go. 39,000 (DET... they could not get 14,000 on a weekend) plus is great for the Sox but for some reason they are losing game after game when full even though the have a good record. Diehard Sox fans like us it does not matter but for the guy finally coming back to the Cell it means alot to them to make a good impression again. Like I said, if Sox fans don't come to support a team that is in the middle of a pennant race, then we don't deserve to have a first place team. I, for one, am not concerned at all about fans not showing up at games.

Lawrence would get destroyed in the AL. I'm not a big fan of his at all. I don't want a pitcher who's used to facing the NL in a pitcher's park.
