What's the chances they pull him with "shoulder stiffness" or "elbow pain"?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) Jeez, take it easy on the guy. He never posts crap and he just happened to miss today's game. I think he's done enough in his time on this board to warrant a free pass here. STFU Milkman, you know I'm kidding. I've been worried about Hermanson for a while now, but he keeps doing the job. We have plenty of other closer options on the team right now.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) While this would be good news, it is Harold Reynolds and its mostly crap that comes out of his mouth. Harold Reynolds has some massive connections in baseball. His brother is a big time agent, and I think Reynolds would have a pretty good feel for what's going on.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) He still allowed the run to be knocked in. He's been shaky, not dominant like you'd expect from a closer. This is one of the dumbest comments I've heard in a long time. Yes, he's been shaky. However, he did a good job closing out the game for us.
-
QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) Two games in a row he's given up a run in the 9th. Is his back still hurting him or is he just coming back down to the real world? Should Marte/Politte/Cotts/Jenks get a shot at closing a few games? Would Wagner/Batista be more important to this team than Burnett/Schmidt? Um, no. That was Marte's runner that he allowed to score.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) I would hate Soriano on this team, absolutely hate the idea. Yeah, how dare someone bring up the notion of obtaining someone who's a legitimate offensive weapon. Soriano, who's not even know for drawing walks, would still have a higher OPS than anyone on our active roster. And you know what, Iguchi is striking out at a much greater rate than Soriano is this season. 71 in 307 AB for Iguchi, compared to 73 in 375 AB for Soriano. I guarantee you would have predicted that Soriano strikes out more frequently/AB.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) There aren't many other "big" moves out there. I think there's something to this, with similarities to Freddy last yr. Except pitching isn't a glaring hole like it was last season.

I don't think there's a chance AJB would want to resign here. Thus, please don't do this trade KW.
-
Considering that teams know KW is a GM that isn't afraid to pay "above market" value in trades, I'm sure there's plenty of teams that would gladly listen to his trade ideas.
-
QUOTE(Big Hurtin @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:23 AM) Here's the answer to whoever made the post about the downside to being 13 games up. Who's 13 games up? I think he means by this that since so many teams have a legit chance at the AL Wild Card, there aren't many teams looking to trade.
-
QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:07 AM) - Is confident that with the current team they can go all the way. The scary thing is that I really think that KW believes this.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:09 AM) Mike Lowell is no longer required to be a part of any trade for Allan James Burnett. I wish he was. I don't want the Sox to acquire AJB at all! I don't see what that would accomplish.
-
QUOTE(Big Hurtin @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:14 AM) Isn't it pretty much a given that Widger will be playing considering it's a day game after a night game? If he is, that's f***ing stupid beyond belief. Between Arroyo's lefty/righty splits, and Contreras pitching better with AJP, if Ozzie wanted to get Widger playing time, he should have been playing tonight. It's these little things that worry me about Ozzie. Most managers would be aware of these types of things, and you wouldn't have to worry about them making the intelligent decision.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:09 AM) I'm going to quote some of those things and start b****ing back at you, deal? Please do. Make sure it's during the course of the game though. I will be incredibly pissed if Widger is starting.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:10 AM) There are 2 players in the AL that would be on my team before anybody else: Aaron Rowand Darrin Erstad Erstad is easily one of the most overrated players in baseball for the last few years. I'll gladly take Vlad and Tejada if you're going to take those two guys first.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:06 AM) You're right, no offense. That's why I'm picking Ken Griffey Jr. Well done. The two biggest offensive weapons I really think we could possible acquire are Griffey Jr. and Soriano. Likely? Not a chance. But it's a hell of a lot more possible than Furcal or Vernon Wells or Lyle Overbay.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:03 AM) Today sucked. Thankfully tomorrow's game is at 2 and hopefully the sox can make us all feel better. I'm not going to be able to access soxtalk during tomorrow's game, so here are my things I would have likely complained about: - Widger playing instead of AJP, when everyone knows Contreras is better with AJP, and Arroyo is so much tougher on righties than lefties. - Timo shouldn't be playing CF. - Contreras likely just pitched his last game ever for the Sox. - I can't stand Hawk's "stretch" - Why didn't we ph Dye when the tying run was at the plate.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:01 AM) Chill, chill. I'm not gonna rip anybody. I have a pounding headache and am basically browsing. And am really pissed about the s*** that happened on the basepaths tonight, about squandering the bases loaded with one out, and about screwing up a damn good outing from our #5 starter. No need to talk about the A's. They keep winning, I'm happy that they're proving everyone wrong, but am pissed that they have a potential shot of winning the WC. I'd rather play the A's as the Wild Card instead of the Yankees. I think we can shut down the A's line-up, and you know the Yankees will pick up some key parts.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 03:58 AM) The only thing that matters is being one of the four playoff teams and then anything can happen. I think the WhiteSox are in a great position to be there! If the offense was not WS caliber then could you please explain why Vegas odds have us favored to win the AL? Because Vegas odds are based off of team records. Do you think Vegas gives a s*** about how our offense looks? No, they use statistical measures to develop their odds. However, I do agree with you on something. I just want this team to make the playoffs, and who knows what will happen then. Even if we make the playoffs and lose in the first round, it's better than not making it. We're not the Yankees where if we miss the playoffs, we can just reload and be pretty confident we'll make it the next year.
-
No offense, but please make this stop. Can we just group together all personal opinions into one thread?
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 03:53 AM) But then again he just played major league baseball and is an analyst for comcast. What does he know. SSI, you know I'm a fan of your belief. However, this is a pretty foolish statement. I've heard some of the dumbest things ever from former athletes. Typically, they only get the job because of their name. The much smarter baseball people are usually the ones who had to earn the job with their insight into the game. However, Joe Carter doesn't deserve to be grouped into this argument. Carter could give Albert Frankenstein a run for his money.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 03:51 AM) Modeling your team after the A's offense is a terrible idea. Considering those kind of lineups will never win a championship, imo. Modeling your team to play a certain way won't work with everyone's personnel. Do you really want to see guys like Crede, Rowand, and Uribe taking pitches at the plate? If you get two strikes on those guys, the AB is typically over. The current team we have will never be patient, no matter what.
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 03:49 AM) Jeebus, those are just awful. I can't believe how quick these armchair GMs are to absolutely destroy the major league leading club. Not only is it completely unrealistic, it's simply laughable. It's even worse when they predict trading a player to a team with a star player at that position already. For example, PK is getting traded to the Reds.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 03:45 AM) this team is built to win in the playoffs...finally....we have every ingredient to close it out when it really counts....! lets just pray that we don't get hit with key injuries...! We do? I don't think our offense is close to being World Series caliber. We won't be facing the KC and Tampa bullpens in the postseason.
-
I'm just sick of PK's approach. In big situations, it really looks like he's just trying to hit a homer instead of just getting the 2 rbi single, etc. He used to be such a tough out at the plate, because he'd just serve the ball wherever it was pitched. Now, he's a one-dimensional hitter. I don't see him coming back to the Sox next year.
