  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:34 AM) Or he's just having a bad game. He's been struggling for a while. As much as I like how Everett has played this year, his swing is getting too long again.
  2. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:33 AM) Unfortunately there is no position except SS we can upgrade at. No good 3b on the market and that's all we could add. Crede isn't going anywhere. With Frank out, I'm all for trying to pick up another DH. Everett is such a streaky hitter, and if he starts to tank, we can't keep playing him like we had to do earlier in the year.
  3. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:32 AM) I completely agree. Bad job by the White Sox in the 3rd inning and I'm sure there are other examples. Now let's discuss all those other pitches Miller threw tonite. Lets see: - Sox ran themselves out of the first inning - Juan Urine has had some terrible ABs - Sox gave Miller the first out in the 3rd inning because we bunted when we were down 2, and only had one runner on base (I hate smallball at the Cell!). - More than 10 pitches where the Sox hitters weakly fouled off pitches right down the plate. - Timo Perez swinging at everything thrown his way, and trying to pull a 2-1 fastball weakly to 2nd base.
  4. I have a feeling this might get ugly on here tonight. As for myself, I'll stay consistent with what I've been saying all week.....we need offensive help, and soon! By no means have we clinched the division, and we're facing a lot of good offensive teams in the 2nd half of the year. We need to be able to consistently score more than one run in an inning.
  5. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) Certainly your right, but I feel you're ignoring 1/2 of the equation. Sox hitters have missed some hittable pitches but this guy has made some very quality pitches too. I realize it's tough to give the opposing pitchers any credit whatsoever, I'm reticent to do so myself but this guy is doing a damn fine job of changing speeds. Just because a guy has a s***ty ERA doesn't mean he can't throw a good game, and this guy is throwing a good game, but granted with some help from Sox hitters not centering on good pitches to hit. With the bases loaded and one out, he threw a hanging slider to Everett that was fouled off. With 2 outs, he had to throw a meatball to PK. He's lucky he didn't give up 4 runs that inning.
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:25 AM) I'm just saying he could save his body some pounding, and Iguchi would be probably appreciate not having to get himself in a hole giving him the opportunity to swipe second. He hit quite a few triples the last couple of years, and I think 19 homers. So he has shown he can drive the ball in the past. This Pods is a lot better than the overswinging Pods from last season.
  7. When's the last time Pods got on base late in a close game? He seems to be a lot better earlier in the game? Does anyone know what he's hitting after the 6th inning this season?
  8. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:23 AM) Matsui hasn't resigned with Yankees yet. Wouldn't mind us going after him for the Everett "rover" spot. He'll get a ton of money from somewhere. With the players we have in the minors, I'd rather we not spend a lot of money on outfield players. Our likely outfield is our typical starting outfield this season.
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) Somehow I knew Captain 2nd Guesser would come up with the numbers. Learn the game, then come back and post. Are you watching what he's throwing? Or just doing your usual, which is 2nd guessing? I'm watching Miller, and I can't believe we're not putting better swings on his pitches.
  10. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:21 AM) Is Abreu a free agent b/c I don't think he is and there is no way the Phillies would trade him. Giles is good, but I think Petco inflates his numbers. Petco inflates his numbers? I think you're the first person to ever say that about a Padres hitter.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:19 AM) His curve has some serious bite tonight. He's definitely pitching a poor ballgame here though, our hitters just aren't hitting him for whatever reason. Just one of those games so far. Good thing is, we got 6 more outs. His curve last year was a lot more quick than the one he's throwing tonight. His curve tonight is more of a looping curve. What's just as concerning with the fact we haven't scored is that we're not hitting the ball hard at all now. Timo, Everett and Uribe especially look like s***.
  12. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:19 AM) I wouldn't want Jones, How about Abreu? :rolly Actually, Brian Giles would be a nice acquisition. Giles is getting old. His bat speed isn't the same as it used to be.
  13. Twins just won the 2nd game of DH. Their minor league pitcher came up and went 7-2. Take that McCarthy.
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:17 AM) Wade Miller is a damn good pitcher, how do you figure he's one of the worst? Sox hitters are way off tonite but this guy is damn good, ask the Cubs. Not making excuses for Sox hitting, they are not executing, but to call Miller one of the worst? No way. (waits for someone to trot out some window of stats to show he is indeed one of the worst) Miller, before the injury, was a damn good pitcher. However, he has nowhere near the same stuff. His velocity is way down, and his curve doesn't have near the bite it used to. He's not one of the worst pitchers, but he's not someone who should be shutting you out through 7 innings.
  15. QUOTE(atrain081 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:15 AM) we need furcal, it's like having two posednicks The Braves aren't trading Furcal! They're making their run right now, and they're getting their pitchers back. We have just as good of a chance as trading for Vlad Guerrero.
  16. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:14 AM) Has anyone ever seen a game where our hitters have missed more straight fastballs down the middle? Weak fastballs with no movement which have been fouled off. Yes I have....quite a few times lately, actually.
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) You could always trade for a big contract, or get an oufielder and have Dye play firstbase starting with spring training. I am not as sold on Gload as a lot of people. I really think he's a journeyman who had a big September last year. I don't want Gload close to be the starting 1b. How often do you see career minor leaguers becoming full-time starters? Not often.
  18. Thing is, we should have as many lefties as possible in the lineup against Arroyo tomorrow. He sucks against lefties, but is dominant vs righties.
  19. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) Uribe and Konerko are in a competition to see who can kill more rallies. Is that a surprise?
  20. Uribe is opening up so f***ing early on every pitch. The reason he was so good for a portion of the season last year was cause he drove the ball to the opposite field.
  21. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) Agreed, right now we are below average overall at ss, 3rd, rf. Average wise 1b, C, 2b. And 2 of those positions you say we're average at...they're currently struggling. I'm so f***ing sick of Juan Urine though.
  22. This looks like one of those old Joe Mays games where he had nothing, but our bat speed looks awful and we can't hit the meatballs.
  23. The thing that is upsetting is that this is what happens when you have a lineup of a lot of below average MLB hitters. I'm not sure how to do it, but we have to toughen up this lineup. Just way too many easy outs. And no, this isn't in response to tonight's game. I've been saying we have too many easy outs for a while now.
