  1. QUOTE(brijames @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) Were gonna waste a great effort by El Duque tonight which is really gonna upset me! Better than losing 11-2 cause Duque couldn't get out of the 4th.
  2. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) Unfortunately, he is the best 1st baseman out on the market this year in Free Agency. I would rather use his money to add another top line starter and a reliever and let Gload and a cheap right handed first baseman from Free Agency. I'm all for letting Dye try to play 1b.
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:02 AM) This goes back to the opinion on his not aging well. He's 29, his power has increased, his average has really dipped and his strikeout rate is rising. He's doing things elite players do in their mid to late 30s. I hope the Sox find another way to spend $40-50 million other than giving it to him. Exactly. Our money is so much better off going to other positions with this team. PK doesn't fit Ozzieball...and that's what we're building for. If you're going to build a team to fit a particular philosophy, you don't give a guy 3 yr/32 million if he's the total opposite of what your philosophy is.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:59 AM) s***. Gotta find a way to get Damon out there. GREAT GAME DUQUE!!!!! I have a feeling that tonight's game might have just punched Contreras's trade ticket.
  5. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:58 AM) WGN bring out the worst in Sox Offense about every time. I thought righties with breaking stuff did?
  6. Duque is over 100 pitches. No reason to have him still pitching. He's done great tonight...let the bullpen bail him out.
  7. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:56 AM) I don't want to resign Konerko. He is too streaky and can't get the job done. Ross gload should have been in the line-up already. Streaky? He's been pretty consistent in my book. He's struggled all season hitting, besides the long ball. He used to be a very good all-around hitter. He's completely changed his approach at the plate.
  8. 6 of our hitters in tonight's lineup have batting averages of .258 or lower.
  9. Dear Ozzie: Please don't leave Duque in the game for too long.
  10. With Dye having his injury issue, and seemingly cooling off since the ASB.....combined with Everett and PK not exactly sharp, this offense is really going to struggle to consistently put up a lot of runs. Those need to be our power producers, and none of them seem to be on top of their game. People seem to forget how great Dye was for about the last 40 games before the ASB.
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:49 AM) Somebody is going to give him a 4 or 5 year contract. He might have a year like he had last year, but whoever signs him will be asking other teams if they would be interested in taking the contract for at least the last 2 years of the deal. He's not going to age well. I've been thinking the same thing as you. PK doesn't strike me as a young player for his age. Rather, I can't see his physical ability improving a lick for the rest of his career. I definitely agree with the opinion that he'll have one of those contracts in a few years that the team is trying to get rid of.
  12. Someone might want to tell PK that this is a contract year!
  13. Two straight pathetic at-bats by PK. Nothing like trying to hit a 2 run homer with no one on base.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:42 AM) Great job duke. Lets get him some runs offense, he deserves a win. In all honesty, this is one of the best pitching performances by any Sox player this season.
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) Manny bats behind Damon, Renteria and Ortiz. The guy is constantly batting with guys on base. He also gets paid $20 million a year. Boston waived Mr. Clutch a couple of years ago, and any team could have had him if they just took the contract. There were no takers. Please tell me we're not discussing if Manny is a good hitter or not.
  16. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) If we're in a situation where we need a hit or a ball batted into play to get in a run, how does Dunn getting intenionally walk help our situation? FWIW, i don't think a walk is as good as a hit. Basically, Dunn was a slightly better player than what we saw out of Frank so far this year. The fact he's still extremely young is a definite bonus.
  17. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:39 AM) Actually he only hit one, and that was off an injured Kerry Wood who was lobbing 87 MPH fastballs. But of course it all looks the same in the box score which is why Dunn is such a great player. :rolly He was 3-16 in the 4 game series against the Cubs. Again, with what I saw, I wasn't impressed with Dunn AT ALL. Fair enough. It was a long series with a ton of homers. Yes, Dunn is frustrating to watch. However, he's also an extremely dangerous, young hitter.
  18. I would have liked to seen Cotts in to face Nixon here, who's much better against RHP.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) But that is Adam Dunn. He'll hit you homers but when you need him most he won't come through. Or he'll get intentionally walked. However, we're not getting him, so this is just for fun.
  20. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) Is there any f***ing pitcher in the league that ramirez has not raped? Oh boy, if you only knew.
  21. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) Actually, Everett has sucked for the last month (.208 AVG/.651 OPS in July). But I doubt we're even looking for upgrades because of "chemistry." Wow, I didn't know it was that bad. I definitely think our biggest weakness is our offense right now. That's why I think the Burnett stuff is crazy.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:35 AM) Just put Manny on. If they don't, that's f***ing stupid.
  23. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) I couldn't stand watching Dunn "hit" during the Cubs series. He struck out looking on a straight fast ball on a 3-2-run game with the bases loaded with one out, he strikes out. All he had to do is put the ball into play in order to get in the tying run. Didn't he also hit a couple of homers in the series?
  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) If Manny delivered a big hit every game how come Boston isn't 30 games over .500? Tell that to Red Sox fans who had to watch Manny strikeout looking in the clutch for about the first 50 games of the season. Ortiz and Damon carried this offense for a large portion of this season.
  25. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) 2 or 3 games u call that a gamer! Look at Manny every game he delivers a big hit.. sort of like Baines use with us! Rowand is not that good people get over it! Big deal he likes the Bears .. give mne some guy that loves soccer and produces for the Sox than some chump thta likes Da' bears and cant do crap! We wanna win baseball games here, not a popularity contest.. hes a great guy but does nothing productive day in and night out for us! I'm not a big fan of Rowand, especially with what I've heard. However, he is not a problem with our offense right now. The middle of our order just isn't producing.
