GAME THREAD 7-16-2005 SOX vs INJUNS

BTW, I know this isn't related to the game, but I think the perfect, utility player to add to the Sox would be Mike Lamb. He's a very solid hitter, and can play 1b/3b, while providing a solid lefty off the bench. -

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 06:19 PM) When people criticize Ozzie for making this particular move, or starting Player B instead of Player A ... This is what they aren't seeing. It's not always about "today". He has the big picture in mind. Not sure how others feel, but I don't have a problem with putting benchers in the starting lineup. I just know I get frustrated when it seems we put all the benchers into the starting lineup for the same game (the "Sunday" lineup). -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) I swear AJ has had the worst luck at the plate of anyone on this team this year. He's hit more hard line drives right at people or shots that have barely been caught than anyone. Someone actually had a stat that I actually think showed that. Without a doubt, no one has more bad luck on the Sox than PK at the plate. With even well below average speed, he'd probably have 10 more hits on the season. I can't remember the last time that AJP hit a ball with authority deep into the outfield. Probably the Cubs series. -

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 06:15 PM) I think everyone here has AJ on their minds (both Burnett and Pier .) He has K'ed a lot more than usual and his avg is way below his career avg. We need to rest AJP in this 2nd half more than we did in the first half. I don't know if he's been tired, but his bat speed is really dragging right now. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 06:15 PM) A lot of that has been us making our own luck. People don't get hurt much...why? Because Ozzie sits people with any minor injury and makes sure people get healthy. We score runs that we shouldn't why? Because we've been moving people over with guys like Tad or stolen bases. We've overcome 1 injury in our starting pitching, 1 in our bullpen, and another struggling starter for a month. We've overcome shifting closers because one was falling apart. The one thing I will still grant you is amazingly lucky is that the foot of the guy on the mound is healthy after spring training. Don't forget missing Frank Thomas for a good portion of the first half. The Sox have been more than cautious with minor injuries this season to Pods, Uribe, and Crede (a little more serious injury). -

I'm loving that outside corner that Buehrle is getting right now. -

Big inning here for Buehrle to keep the Indians scoreless, as the Sox have ALL the momentum right now. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) Aj's just a bit off, he's taking good swings and is just underneath the ball. I noticed that also. He's getting some pitches right down the plate, and just fouling them straight back. He seems to be dropping his whole body a little too much when he swings. A lot of movement for a hitter who's usually pretty quiet at the plate. -

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) We have to of scored more runs with two outs than anyone in baseball this year. At least six of those runs seven runs yesterday were scored with two outs. Today all three have so far. Are you sure that stat is accurate? For some reason, I thought that our average with RISP, and 2 outs, is very poor. -

Keep it going! That ball looked like it was the typical just miss by PK. -

Gotta love the two out damage we're doing. It was just a matter of time before Everett hit one of those rockets down the LF line fair. -

Damn umpire looked like he screwed Uribe out of a walk. It's ok, Buehrle seems to have a very large zone so far. -
I think people are getting their expectations for what we'd get in return for Shingo a little too high. We're throwing around the name of some of the top prospects in their particular organization. If it was Juan Cruz, I guarantee you that would have been specified in the article.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) I love Ozzie putting the pressure on the Indians. If he doesn't call for the steal, it's still 0-0. Especially the way things have gone the first two games of this series, we have nothing to lose by being incredibly aggressive. Since we don't have Frank in the lineup, and we have Harris in instead of Iguchi, we might as well put all the pressure possible on the defense. We can't sit around and hit 3 homers against Westbrook today. We haven't hit a homer in this series. -

QUOTE(Tadahito15 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) One run should be enough with Buehrle on the mound if he is his usual stuff. Besides, he is due for a win. I swear, every time someone says that, they go out and give up 3 runs in the next inning. However, I can't fault you for dreaming -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) That's awesome. Dye's been a very good base stealer and it's starting to look like he's not afraid to run out there anymore either. It's shocking that the Indians weren't expecting Dye to be running. Usually, when you hit a player, especially intentionally, the player is going to try and steal. -

Nothing I like better than someone with no homers on the season swinging for the fences against a massive sinkerball pitcher. Very happy with the one run though. -

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) Has AJ gotten a hit since the walkoff against the Dodgers? :headshake He had two in the final game of the A's series, but he's really struggling at the plate. He's never had good patience, but he's just swinging at everything. His bat speed hasn't been the same in the past month or so. -

Pretty good play by Crede there, as he made it look easy. I'm not so sure Ozuna would have been able to come up with it. -

Lucky Hernandez didn't hit about half of those pitches out of the park. Hernandez just hammers lefty, and those pitches were up in the zone. Hernandez hit two homers last wknd against Randy Johnson on high pitches. -

Hope Hafner is ok, but wouldn't mind if he misses tomorrow's game also. Hafner didn't do a very good job at getting out of the way of that pitch, but I have a feeling that someone will get plunked on the Sox next inning. -

Westbrook is definitely one of those pitchers who make it seem impossible to get hits against him cause of his sinker. Lets just win this game 1-0. -

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 05:26 PM) Please tell me this is not Todd Zeile doing color. He was absolutely brutal during the Giants and Cards last week. It's not Zeile. Please tell me that Zeile wasn't doing that game with Buck though? -

QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 04:33 PM) Why is Iguchi sitting today.. Iguchi really struggled yesterday, but he's on record as saying he doesn't like to sit out, because he feels like he loses his rhythm at the plate. One thing we can't do tonight is try and play station-to-station baseball. Westbrook's sinker will result in quite a few DP if we don't try and create stuff on the bases.
