If you expand rosters, I think you would see a move to shorter and shorter pitching durations. That isn't the baseball I prefer or want as it is just like a bullpen battle. No more classic pitching duels of starter vs starter. You will have a bunch of no name 1-2 inning pitchers. The radar gun will rule in drafting even more than now. Interesting philosophical debate.

I have played with roster construction something like what you mention. Rays are closest. Think three guys going three innings every three days and then three in bullpen for late situations or extras. Double headers are killers and exra innings. Hard to sell to pitchers. Probably have to rotate first two guys as the "starter" never in long enough for win. Maybe six three inning guys and six in pen for last 3 innings. Closing still seems mental for some guys.

Glad he is doing better. Still can't believe we spent that money on a guy known to be injured or at least have the first year prorated for late start.

I guess the modern pitcher throwers use max effort for a short duration and are looked at as 100 million dollar investments. It is interesting the starting pitchers are getting paid more than ever yet pitching fewer innings than ever. There may be something to draft a lot of pitching, use it heavily , and trade it the year before free agency if no early team friendly extensions like Sale and Q. Even then trade before deal is up. Essentially treat them like the way the NFL treats running backs. It is deplorable but probably best from a business sense if you have a budget.

Micker played for charlotte, Kubat 3 shut out relief innings. Down in A, Beard doing a little something including a steal of home. He was supposed to be really raw. It would be nice if he became something.

Took a look at Mariners farm. Their #6 prospect starts against us tonight. He would be #1 in our system and there are two more 55FV pitchers above him and a 70FV OF and 60FV SS. Not wanting to trade places, but their future looks bright.

Our best hope is he pitches well. After Gio and Lynn are back, Keuchel tweaks something and misses 3-5 starts. Problem solved LOL. I cannot, on a pitching starved team, hope our player does poorly.

Under the premise , he has to be somewhat effective to approach 160, you would expect a grievance being filed. He could quite possibly win.

Second big picture and I know that it isn't the most important function of the minors, but I hope our affiliates are more competitive this year for the sake of their local fans. We had some horrendous records last year. I am not advocating a lot of over age non prospects but I think it can be useful to a player's development to learn in a winning environment. You are much more likely to hit behind runners/move them over in close games than when you are getting your brains beat in. If the team sucks, it is natural to self focus not focus on the team. Yes I am older.

I will go bigger picture. The young pitchers show some promise. Others improve and we move up to a farm in the 15-20 range, provided we don't have to trade a bunch.
