Yeah, I know this is in the wrong forum, but I'd like to have some people actually see it. Anyways, the Soxtalk roto league is short on people. We've only got 6 people registered and the draft is currently set for Saturday night at 6:30 PM Central. I figured I'd give this a shot before moving the draft time, as slots are more limited now. Anyways... League ID (on Yahoo)- 162283 password- soxtalk

Alright, come on people, there's like no one in the league yet.
-
Since apparently Jas is gone until the 15th and I can't make it the 11th, and we still have to hunt some people down, I pushed back the draft until Friday the 21st at 10:30 PM. Yeah, the time kinda sucks, but for now the choices blow.

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 07:01 PM) Im in, 4th place finish is not an option for me again this year Oh and Zoom, that list in your first post is 13 people so someone I guess is SOL. So it is. I'm out unless you need me then, I don't really need 4 Soxtalk leagues.

Those damn custom URL's never seem to work...

Alright, info... League ID- 162283 password- soxtalk Draft is currently set for Saturday March 15th at 8:30 PM Central. If that doesn't work for a lot of you I can try to move it, but the times are somewhat more limited now, especially on weeknights.

Alright, I'll be posting league assignments shortly. There will be a thread for each league, so check them out to see where you end up. The commish of each league will then give you the info so you guys can join up and get going. Also, the roto league still needs a couple of more players, so anyone that wants in (whether you are already in a league or not) feel free to post here or in the League #3 thread. Just let me know if you join so I can keep the rosters straight. Good luck, and have fun.

Their pitching is overrated. Zambrano does have a ton of ability, but he's coming off a terrible year (well, by his standards, though a 3.95 ERA and WHIP above 1.30 isn't exactly front-line starter material in that league) and is kind of erratic. Even in a career year Lilly had a 3.83 ERA in the NL, and Rich Hill was a tad worse. If all three of those guys pitch to the peak of their abilities they have a very nice staff, but what are the odds of that happening? Plus those three really have to carry the rotation, the group of guys competing for the last two spots is far from impressive. You can say the same thing about the pen. Marmol, Wood, and Howry all have good stuff, but can they all produce? If not, they have no depth behind them. Sure, on paper they're the favorites to win that division, but I see them maxing out somewhere in the mid-80's for wins, which is probably just enough to go to the playoffs and lose to a stronger team in the first round.

Oh my god, Northwestern won a game! -
I'm going to send out one more reminder either today or tomorrow, then I'll fill out the leagues some time this weekend.

Bumping again. We're nearing another off-season, and again could use a few more players. It's not that we're all that demanding, we just tend to have difficulty finding/keeping 30 people that keep up with things for more than a couple of weeks. Anyways, links above. We'll be looking for at least three new players. One of the available teams is Tampa Bay, which has a considerable amount of talent and could easily be a world series contender with some tweaks and attention. Anyways, hope to see some of you in the league.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 07:57 PM) Need to learn how to blow a 18 point halftime lead? Watch FSU basketball. It's a 7 point game with 4 minutes to go. It's been as low as 4. I pray to God that we lose this game. Ham would have to be gone? Eh, who am I kidding, TK Wetherell is an idiot. At least your team had scored 18 points by the half. NU and Iowa taking throwback night to a new level with a 17-15 halftime score. -
QUOTE(The Beast @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) When are you handing out league assignments? When I've got enough to fill a few leagues. Right now I've only got like 30, and that's with an anticipated 4 or 5 leagues... Ideally that'll be sometime this week.

The Big Ten is last in RPI largely because of how crappy the bottom of the league is. They have 4 sub-150 teams, including NU at 213. Add those games to the usual collection of OOC cupcakes and it can really put a drag on your rating. They still have 5 top-50 rated teams, which isn't exactly terrible. The Big East is the only other league that has that (they have 3 sub-150's with Rutgers at 206), and they have 8 top-50's to counter that. The ACC only has 5 top-50 teams with the lowest rated school being Virginia at 126, the Big 12 has 6 with the lowest rated being Nebraska at 145, the Pac 10 has 6 (Oregon is right at 50) with Oregon state being the only real drag, and the SEC has 5 with LSU at 184 and Auburn at 150. So while the Big Ten isn't exactly stellar and doesn't have a true national championship contender, it's not exactly as bad as the math makes them look. You've still got 4 very respectable teams and two other passable ones with OSU and Minnesota, it's just not as deep as it has been in the past. -
QUOTE(JFields27 @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) thats why i didnt call him that .. Palehose wanted to say he was garbage after two years in the nba .. i was just said with his logic he could say the same about Tyrus as all he said was Williams sucked in 31 games started and then the 11 minutes he gets average each game .. as much as its a cap ditch(which i said already that could help Artest staying) Johnson will probably split most of the time with Ulrich Well, Shelden does kinda suck, he can't finish inside despite a lot of bulk and power, and he's nowhere near as good a defender as he was at the college level. He doesn't exactly have a whole lot of upside either. Of course you also have to consider that he's a Carolina fan.

QUOTE(JFields27 @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) your gonna call Williams garbage for 31 games started ever in his career(all came last season before Horford) .. and about 11 minutes a game this season? He's blocked by Horford and Marv Williams who have young legs just like him so they dont have be taken out much. He has been in the league for 2 years and your already labeling him garbage .. so i suppose next season can call Tyrus Thomas garbage apparently its only right give him a break im not saying he is going to be a god in Sac but he could very well bounce back and the Kings down low needed some young legs. I doubt other teams were willing to give up much for Bibby but the point is his 13.5 mil is off the team and a bunch more cap to dedicate to a Artest signing There's a HUGE difference between Tyrus and Williams. Tyrus is an elite athlete that's still only 21, played one year in college, and was seen as a developmental prospect coming out, especially given his serious lack of bulk. He was also widely considered the player in the draft with the highest ceiling. Williams had four years at Duke, making him 3 years older. He was supposed to be able to contribute right away because of his much more developed body and experience. He was also considered a major reach at that draft spot (he was generally projected to go outside the top-10) because of his limited athleticism and length, which is a major reason he hasn't been able to contribute as expected (Not really sure how you can claim he was "blocked" by anyone, Horford is a rookie and Williams was pretty marginal. If he had shown anything he'd have played more given their total lack of inside players, and then they could have used the pick on Conley, who they badly needed). Even if he does rebound a bit he's going to be a pretty average player, while you don't know exactly how much of his considerable potential that Tyrus will fufill. He's really only an afterthought to the trade, the cap space is the only major benefit.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) Bluestone is good, I went there. If you want just greasy food, Id recommend Buffalo Joe's. I dont think its really close to the stadium (its more by the Movie Theatre/El) but they have good wings, cheese burgers (they use the same cheddar cheese that Weiner Circle and Michaels have), waffle fries, etc. Back when I was in Evanston more I used to eat a lot of their food. Yeah, Buffalo Joe's is in downtown Evanston on Clark St between Benson and Sherman. That place is lengendary, but it's not really close to the stadium (according to Mapquest it's about 1.5 miles, probably a 5-10 minute drive). It's doable, it'd just require moving your car. There are a bunch of good options in that general area, Merles is one of my favorites for some barbeque and Las Palmas is a pretty solid Mexican place that's a few blocks down, and that's just a small sampling of places in that general area. -

QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) Thanks. I'm sure I'll be OK a couple of cold ones and a burger will do me just fine. Bluestone should work as a one-stop place then. I'd recommend going at like noon before the NU game or going well after the NU game though, whenever we go anywhere close to game time it's hard to find a spot at the bar and there can be 30 minute to hour waits for tables at times. The place is pretty small, luckily they're moving to a new, bigger location closer to the stadium some time this year. -

QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) I will be at the Purdue/ N'western game Saturday. I'll also be sticking around to see the high school matchups at Welsh-Ryan, mainly to root on my E.C. Central Cardinals that evening. Any N'western alum/students who have some suggestions for a place to grab a drink or two and a quick meal while I'm near the arena. There aren't really a whole lot of places close to the stadium, it's a mostly residential area of town outside of some shops on Central. You really only have two options near the stadium. The first is Bluestone at 1932 Central (maybe 6 blocks from the stadium, other side of the train tracks), which is basically upscale bar food. It gets REALLY packed on game days, but it might not be as bad for an afternoon game. The other is Mustard's Last Stand right by the stadium, which is basically just a hole in the wall with your fast food staples (not exactly cheap for what it is either). You might want to consider hitting downtown Evanston for food before hand, there are far more dining options there. -

My bad, thought pailhose's comment was about Ebanks and Indiana, not the ISU situation. I kinda subconsciously ignored the football part. That's different and does really suck.
