  1. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 8, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) Which just annoys me. Pau and Pierce have been very good/great players but neither of them have ever been a top 5 player in the league. To be in the HoF you should have to be one of the best players of your generation and neither of them are close imo. Top-5 isn't going to be the same every year though. Pierce isn't better than Duncan, Kobe, Lebron, Dirk or KG. He's going to compare pretty favorably to guys that were making All-NBA in the late 90's like Tim Hardaway, Rod Strickland, Stephon Marbury and Reggie Miller though. You need a historical perspective as well as a current one. He's got to be a top-20 wing player ever, which should merit an induction unless you have a really small HOF.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 8, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) Alonzo Mourning is in the HOF? Oh God. Shows how much I care about the pro basketball HOF. To me, his peak was too short and he missed too many games to be in. However, he was a 21-10 guy with 3 blocks during his peak. He had the unfortunate timing to be in the same draft class as Shaq and also had to contend with Robinson, Hakeem and Ewing for most of his prime.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 8, 2015 -> 12:45 PM) He had a few moments, granted huge moments, against the Knicks and a game-winner over MJ. He's severely overrated otherwise. I'd take prime Joe Johnson over Miller and Johnson sure as hell ain't no hall of famer. Miller is a weird one. He didn't have the most diverse game, but he was an insanely good shooter and his Indiana teams did pretty well with him as their best player. He's kinda like Richard Hamilton on steroids. I've never been a fan, but given the standards they've set, he's in. Unfortunately, it's kind of hard to separate individual players from team context with the NBA. Guys like Alex English, Bernard King and the previously mentioned Richmond put up good numbers on bad teams, so did they really matter? On paper, they were better than Miller, but Reggie's teams were more successful despite mediocre talent. Then you get guys like Johnson that don't have great numbers but were a key player on 3 championship teams. I would assume the argument is he'd have put up better numbers if he weren't playing with Bird, McHale and Parrish. We've seen how the team context can alter numbers recently with Love and Bosh. It gets even more annoying when you have to compare across eras. Dear lord Bob Cousy, why did you shoot so much! He was a no-doubter though. It's an annoying argument once you get past the legends.
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 8, 2015 -> 12:40 PM) I keep hearing people talk about Ginobili and Pau as hall of famers and that's just a joke to me. Paul Pierce isn't even a HoF to me but I know he's in. Ginobili gets a lot of credit for his international play whenever he is brought up. It's kind of like the Arvydas Sabonis pick, only Manu has done a lot more in the NBA. The other two are generally going to be in under any HOF's standards because they were key cogs on championship teams. You can add Chris Bosh to that too. It really doesn't take that much to get into the basketball HOF. They LOVE inducting basically any remotely successful college basketball coach. The NBA should really start their own basketball HOF and tighten the standards a bit.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 8, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) Reggie Miller made it. That's all you need to know. There are a bunch of weak selections to the hall. Miller is weak on paper, but his career was far more memorable than people like Calvin Murphy, Mitch Richmond or Alonzo Mourning. Dennis Johnson looks pretty bad on paper, though he has a lot of defensive accolades. Rodman has already been mentioned. Edit- On second thought, Rodman hasn't been mentioned. If he's in, Wallace definitely should be.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 6, 2015 -> 05:45 PM) How many books are there? 5? 6? 7? Is it worth going back to the start with the books or should I pick up where the show's leaving off before Season 5? And didn't Guardians of the Galaxy rip off Groot from Hodor? There are 5 books out of an expected 7. No one has any idea when Winds of Winter (book 6) will be out other than not this year. George is a notoriously slow writer. You should probably just start at the beginning because they've mixed the timelines around in the show. They've done stuff that's in FFC and DoD (books 4 and 5) but have not finished a few things from SoS (book 3, mostly at the Wall) yet. There are also some things that aren't in the show at all.

    2015 TV Thread

Been catching up on Sons of Liberty. They mention Samuel Adams so many times that I had to go out and buy a six pack.
  8. Stole this from the rotowire podcast, who apparently stole it from sb nation. The Knicks have been 1-1, 2-4, 3-9, 4-16, 5-25 and 6-36. The triangle offense is producing square root results.
  9. Probably 2005 when I volunteered at the All-Star game fanfest. They were giving away limited edition cards if you purchased a certain number of packs. I still have an insane number of cards around the house. I collected a ton from about 92/93 to 2001/02, mostly baseball and basketball. I really enjoyed it, but there was just too much stuff out by the time I quit, and it was becoming cost-prohibitive to get the stuff I wanted. Unfortunately, I ended up selling/trading a lot of my cooler stuff whenever I'd go to a convention in my quest for whatever was hot and new. Best card I ever pulled out of a pack was a Scottie Pippen autographics. That set had so many weird and random people, it was awesome to get a star player. I could have sold it for a few hundred dollars, but I traded it for some other stuff that's long gone now. At this point, the only thing I ever buy is short-printed (under 100) cards of Northwestern players.
  10. QUOTE (SnB @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 11:32 AM) b) Dabble in GTA, have the hour fly by and accomplish nothing. Kinda like my time with Borderlands 2 and Destiny, only replace one hour with 4.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 10:56 AM) You can't go wrong with animals in sombreros. I enjoyed when the dodo bird was drafted and immediately keeled over. Yep, even Len Bias didn't drop that fast.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) This question is probably for Zoom. Could the Heat have afforded Gasol had LeBron stayed? Not at what he is making this year. Gasol would have had to take the mini-MLE (just over $3 million). Miami's payroll this year is about $8 million over the cap even without Lebron (yeah, subtract Deng and McRoberts, but those two plus Birdman or Chalmers would basically cancel out Lebron).
  13. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 09:22 AM) 4 team parlay came through yesterday. All ML; took Grizzlies, Warriors, Cavs, and Pelicans. I'm going to take the Blazers and Clippers tonight at the max teaser amount. I'd consider avoiding the Blazers since Aldridge is unlikely to play.
  14. There are a bunch of us here that did online leagues back in the OOTP 6 and 6.5 days. WAY too much time sunk into that. I haven't really tried to move to the newer versions. The people I played online with never wanted to upgrade and I didn't feel like running stuff solo.
  15. If the under-inflated balls are such a big deal, you would think one of the officials would notice when it gets put in play.
  16. In honor of the announcement of The Handsome Collection, my 10 favorite weapons/items from Borderlands 2. You will notice that I LOVE Torgue guns. EXPLOSIONS! 10) Conference Call (shotgun)- Mostly an honorary spot for its pre-nerf combo with the Bee. Still nice for taking out large enemies. 9) Deliverance (shotgun)- Not all that practical outside of taking out flying stuff, but it is Just fun to throw it at stuff and watch it keep shooting. 8) EVO (shield)- My go-to shield in melee-heavy areas. Not terribly sexy, otherwise it would be higher. 7) SWORDSPLOSION (shotgun)- Nice high-damage option at close range. 6) The Ogre (assault rifle)- Pretty much the only auto rifle I liked. 5) Practicable butcher (shotgun)- Fire rate is so high it's basically a high-damage SMG. Chance to add ammo is a huge bonus. 4) Florentine (SMG)- Dual elements made this an amazing shield-killer. 3) Bonus Package (grenade mod)- EXPLOSIONS! Some prefer the meteor shower, but I always found this to be more consistently destructive. 2) The Sham (shield)- You're virtually immortal against bullets using this thing 1) Unkempt Harold (pistol)- Basically obliterates everything at close/mid-range.
  17. Well crap, here goes my life in March/April: Borderlands 2/Pre-Sequel bundle coming to next gen. LOVED Borderlands 2 and almost kept my PS3 just to play the Pre-Sequel.
  18. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 17, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) I'd rather the T-Wolves get Okafor to pair with Wiggins rather than the Knicks.... It's pretty amazing that the Knicks are 3 1/2 games behind the Sixers. I've pretty much assumed that Okafor goes to LA or NY.
  19. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 10:00 AM) Speaking of Destiny. Xur is selling Ice Breaker this weekend. A must buy. Obsidian Mind is pretty awesome for our warlock friends too.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 01:44 PM) And next year when he is playing somewhere else (which will be the case if they don't at least make the final), they will be hating it even more. As I said, if Love leaves, then that will be a disaster. I have no inside information on that front.
  21. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 01:26 PM) Cavs fans are gonna hate that Wiggins/KLove trade sooner rather than later. Meh. Love has been a bit disappointing, but he's still averaging 18 a game on only 13 shots and rebounding well. They needed a big at some point. There's also a decent chance that Lebron knew that deal was in the works when he agreed to sign there. Wiggins would still need to get a lot better or Love would have to leave for them to "hate" the deal.
  22. So Wiggins is starting to turn it on. Over the last 30 days, he's basically averaging 18-5-2 on 46% shooting with 1.3 threes and .6 blocks (yes, I play fantasy). He's scored at least 20 in 7 of his last 8 games. He kind of needs to carry this draft class since everyone else is hurt.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) Need some help with Welsh-Ryan, its been about 30 years since I last went there and I cant remember where to sit. I remember some is bleachers and some is chairs. Anyone have any knowledge? 101-106 will be actual chairs with "cushioned" seatbacks. I'm not 100% sure with the 200's since I haven't sat there in like 10 years, but I believe 202-206 are also all purple seats (minimally some of those are). Look for tickets labeled "purple preferred" for the actual seats.
  24. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) I got the Untold History of Westeros for xmas, such a fantastic read for a GoT nerd like me. That book is worth it just for the art.
  25. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 2, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) If I were you, I would pick up GTAV at least a couple weeks before The Heists finally get released. You'll want to do some of the storyline, get used to the game, and then play online some because you have to be at least Level 12 online too do heists. Plus, you'll want online money to buy a nice enough apartment so you can host the heists. Also, GTAV is just an overall amazing game, so just get it soon for that reason. I played it a fair amount on the PS3 (I think about 30% completion), so I'd rather not pay $50 or $60 for it again. Once there's an actual release date on heists, I may make it a higher priority. They've been "coming" for over a year though.
