  1. Alright, I got enough now, I'll post league threads... My bad, I can't count, need one more for League 2.
  2. I've got 15 right now, with 5 committed in each of 2 leagues. I can just start one with like 12 right now and do first-come-first serve, or I can wait until we get 5 more and do two leagues...
  3. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 01:10 PM) You dont like Rudi? Hes one of the more consistent RBs you could ask for. Every year he guarantees over 1000 yds rushing and 12 tds. Its nice because drafting him I know what to expect. Although Ill only take him if I have one of the last two picks in the first round. Well, he's solid but not spectacular. In the second round fine, but #8 overall? That's a little high for my liking, especially since he seems to be on the decline. 3.8 yards a carry is pretty weak, and their line took a hit with Steinbach leaving. I do feel a bit better about him than I did a week ago now that Kenny Irons is out for the year, meaning his job isn't really in danger, but I'd still MUCH rather take someone like Edgerrin James or Thomas Jones 2 rounds later and get fairly similar production (Yes, I know he scored about 40 more points last year in a standard league. Obviously I expect those other guys to close the gap quite a bit) while using that pick on someone a little more likely to be able to carry my team.
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 12:58 AM) Nothing is worse than going to sleep at 2:30 on a weeknight and having your neighbors come back, drunk as s***, and blare their top 40s s*** with their sub going and everything. Didn't matter what songs were playing, they all sucked. Yeah, drunk people and general noise at 2 or 3 in the morning was pretty common and annoying. I eventually just gave up trying to go to sleep before 2 AM.
  5. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) I'm in....What site are you using? It'll likely be Yahoo, though I guess I could do ESPN if people want. I'd actually have to get an ID and figure stuff out on the other sites.
  6. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) I'd agree with this if we were talking about professional sports because a single free agent pick up could alter the course of a season. But in sports where recruiting is the key to putting good talent on the court/field, there is no mid-season replacement that could save a program. Ron Turner is a perfect example. He has a big year in football, getting the Illini to a BCS bowl. He's the darling of Champaign. Two years later we're back in the basement of the big ten and not just losing games, but recruiting high school junior varsity players to lose those games. Turner f*cked over the Illini program for 6 years because of his lack of recruiting skills. Well, with Turner you have a guy that isn't a great recruiter AND isn't exactly an elite X's and O's guy either. That one year where they went to the Sugar Bowl the playbook was basically run it up the gut or throw it up top to Brandon Lloyd and Walter Young, not exactly revolutionary game-planning. I'm not as worried about the recruiting rankings as if he can find guys that can be productive in his system. You don't necessarily need the Eric Gordon's or Derrick Rose's of the world to be successful, though obviously they help. All you have to do is look at Wisconsin, they've rarely been a major player in recruiting, and they still have a successful program with some deep tournament runs. He just needs to find guys that fit his system and try to snag a 4-star type here and there and he should be fine.
  7. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) By custom I meant....I could put in the values that my league uses and the sheet will rank players for me according to that. Ah, wasn't entirely sure if that was what you meant or not. In that case, no, I don't really know of any that'll do that for you. I'm sure if you're smart with Excel you can imput the stats and their scoring values, but that's beyond my abilities.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) Maybe he would have a better team if he recruits more system guys and less blue chips............. Well, people gripe if all he brings in is lower rated guys that might be fringe top-100 types, and people gripe if he tries to get the top recruits and misses. Personally I don't really care as long as he succeeds, and last year was the first time it had an impact on their record. I'm not ready to throw him under the bus quite yet, so far he's had one "bad" year, though it was marked by quite a few off the court incidents as well. The team isn't totally devoid of talent, so there is a chance to rebound. If he strings together a few more like last year though, you have to start wondering.
  9. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 08:13 PM) I wonder when Illinois is going to decide to can the guy. He's a great X & O coach, but he's absolutely horrific as a recruiter. I would guess he has AT LEAST two more years of leeway after that Final Four run. Remember how long they let Ron Turner hang around? I got nothing against Weber, but you'd think eventually by default he'd start actually signing a few of these guys...
  10. Man, this brings back memories... Softest semester I ever had: Public speaking Persuasive speaking Small group communication Latin American civilization Practical Review of Spanish The last one was kind of annoying because it was at 8 in the morning and I hadn't taken Spanish in 2 years, but the rest were REALLY easy. I didn't have a single speech over 5 minutes or any papers over 5 pages. Actual speeches that I made that semester: Early Entry Eligibility of Maurice Clarett and Larry Fitzgerald And How It Will Affect the NFL A Salary Cap In Baseball: Why It's Needed And How to Do It Collegiate Athletic Spending Gone Overboard How To Shoot Pool Video Game Violence: Don't Believe Everything You Read Napster And Peer-To-Peer Music Sharing: A Brief History And Its Impact on the Music Industry The Increasing Lack of Creativity in Music, Movies, and Video Games I got kind of creative in applying the goals of some of those speeches. Hardest (last semester, remember that I was a Speech and Communcations major ): Advanced organizational communication History of rhetoric history of gender rhetoric interpersonal communication mass media and life in the home I know it sounds REALLY soft, but every one of those was very writing intensive. Every single one of them had 12-page papers for finals week and several other smaller ones.
  11. Honestly, you're going to get a different answer from virtually everyone, pesonal opinion definitely plays a role. I know I personally don't like Rudi Johnson a whole lot as a first rounder, but that's where he's going. You can get a rankings list from basically any publication, the problem is you're probably not going to agree with any of them 100%.
  12. QUOTE(Beastly @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 12:33 PM) It's nice to hear the reassurance here, because I'm going to be quite lost when I go down there. I'm not wanting to change who I am or what I believe in, I just would like to make more friends, maintain a relationship with someone very close to me back home and just take it easy. I wouldn't mind going to go out and socialize, but I guess drinking and dancing isn't really my thing. Dancing only is my thing when I'm at a wedding or at a school function. I agree that people change a lot but I hope that I'll remain mostly of who I want to be and have some of the same beliefs. I'm sure going out won't be a problem, it's just finding those people who share interests (sports, World of Warcraft, video games, D&D, Warlord the CCG and Magic the Gathering.) Again, sorry for the random posts out to people on the board, but I'm one to write better than communicate my thoughts than through speaking. I'm sure the transition will be an adjustment, but will be a positive one. I basically have the same kind of personality and didn't have much of a problem. You're only going to be in class for 2-4 hours a day, and basically no one goes out before 10, so that's A LOT of down time (yeah, I know, studying. Honestly, unless it was mid-terms or finals more than an hour or two a day was overkill unless you were in a future competitive enrollment program). One thing I would definitely suggest is checking out the groups on campus. Granted Illinois probably had a ton more than most, but there's likely at least one that'll cater to your interests. I played a lot of pool and poker, so I basically hung out at the pool hall, playing in some of the tournaments, and kept my eye open for poker games (the school/dorms had some sponsored games now and then). Depending on your situation, there might be a bunch of people that play on the school network, or maybe there's a hobby shop/gaming store with tournaments and events. Other than that, just try to be receptive and flexible. If some people you know want to go to a party or go grab some food or something, just go with it as long as it doesn't interfere with your studies, you'll integrate a little more and help your social life a bit. You don't need to go out drinking 4 or 5 nights a week (like a lot of people I knew ), but 1 or 2 won't kill you. I'll admit, I wasn't a heavy drinker either and still am not now, but I did become a bit of a social drinker, since that was all anyone ever did on the weekends.

  14. QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) Any chance your going to be starting one for soxtalk brian? Ask and ye shall receive: Soxtalk Fantasy Football
  15. Fantasy football has been open for a while, so what the hell, let's finally get the Soxtalk leagues going. Just post in here for now, I'll set up a league(s) whenever we get about half a dozen signups. Also, anyone that has rosters from last year, I'd appreciate the help (I think I can get the league 2 one of Yahoo, not sure).
  16. Since no one else has started it, I'll go ahead and get this going. Can't be anywhere near as annoying/time consuming to set up as the baseball ones.
  17. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) Well, I'm starting to apply. I'm liking Northwestern, Illinois, and Marquette. But all these damn forms are killing me. Man, NU was a b**** when I filled that out. Do they still make you write like 3 essays? They were pretty lame when I did them, one of them was something like "What mask do you wear in your life and why?" Good luck man, those first two are pretty tough. I got rejected at NU and probably wouldn't get into Illinois anymore.
  18. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) Dude, you think a bit too highly of yourself. To expect Pierce, Allen, and Garnett to play 82 games is just plain dumb, and with the steps Howard is going to take this year and the addition of Rashard Lewis, Orlando is going to be nuts, and during the second half last year Toronto was great, and is ready to take the next step. If you want to be like the media conglomerates and crown the Celtics, that's fine... some of us think for ourselves. I don't expect you to be here admitting your wrong in May of next year... but it'll feel just ask good for me. KG hasn't missed more than 6 games in the last 8 years (and he might have played a few more the last two if his team was going somewhere), and before last year's broken foot Pierce had 6 straight seasons of at least 79 games. Even the fragile Ray Allen has played 76+ for 3 of the last 5 years. As long as any of them don't miss extended time they should be fine, and that's highly possible. Over the short term every one of those guys is capable of carrying that team. How is Orlando any different than Boston? Okay, so Howard and Lewis are good and Nelson isn't bad, but their next two best players are Hedo Turkoglu, who will either get traded or be a lot less effective since he plays basically the same role as Lewis, and Trevor Ariza, who is a decent bench player at this point but not much else. They're not exactly a deep team either, and they've only got 2 All-Star caliber players to carry them. The one major benefit they have over Boston is that the south-east sucks, though they can still possibly end up finishing behind Washington. Toronto does look pretty good, but they're far from a lock. They're still a very young team that only managed 47 wins in a conference that was MUCH weaker than it will be this year (yeah, they had some injury issues, but so did Washington, Miami, New Jersey, and Boston). They're probably going to need Bargnani to step up, I can't see Parker and Calderon playing quite that well again and Bosh and Ford can't do it alone.
  19. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 11:38 AM) Completely forgot about that one, I played that with a friend for probably 100 hours over a month or two and NEVER could beat the game. It was basically impossible without the frequently mentioned code, even then it was pretty tough.
  20. Notre Dame is the only one that really makes sense, and both sides have bristled at that. The Big Ten was kinda pissed the last time ND turned them down (back when they added Penn State I think), and ND obviously wants to keep their TV deal and their scheduling freedom. Plus they're already in the Big East for every other sport, if anything I'd think the BCS would eventually try to force them into that conference to give it a bit more legitimacy down the road (yeah, I know they win bowl games, but they also get the dud matchups). The same goes for Louisville, I'm not sure how interested they'd be in switching allegiances AGAIN.
  21. Man, there's an awful lot of them, I've played far too many video games in my time (some were mentioned already): NES- Contra first and foremost, Jackal, Gunsmoke, Bubble Bobble, Blades of Steel, GI Joe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the arcade one). There was another game with motorcycles and crazy side-cars with souped-up guns, can't remember the name. Also, I got hooked on Bomberman on my roommate's emulator. Super Nintendo- Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country (man, that was addictive), NBA Jam. Also, it wasn't quite my favorite, but does anyone remember NCAA Basketball? It was super-cheap, you could run around using your teammates for picks constantly and get easy dunks. Plus there was some guy on UNC that never missed from the arc (fake players). Playstation- The big one was Twisted Metal 2 for me, that game was awesome. Blowing up the Eiffel Tower rarely got old, and beating that last boss was such a pain in the ass, think I only pulled it off once. I played Battle Arena Toshinden and Tekken 2 an awful lot too. Another one I liked a lot was this fighting game with dinosaurs, think it was called Primal Rage or something like that. I always took the farting baboon, I could do some damage with that guy. Playstation 2- Don't really count as classics, but a couple that don't get as much hype as the should: Twisted Metal Black and The Mark of Kri. The stories were so much better on TMB than they were in the past, and though it took a while to get used to the game speed it was ridiculously fun. The latter never sold as well as I thought it should have. It's a fun action-slasher with some stealth mixed in and some really cool art. My only gripe was that is was too short (I could beat it in one extended sitting now), and it's now out of print.
  22. Doesn't really matter if you're asking for ridiculous money if the owners aren't dumb enough to give it to you (which of course they are)...
  23. I used to (and still occasionally do) get all kinds of hilariously worded ones that aren't fit to write on this site.
  24. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 09:45 PM) I heard that PS3 was going to get a big-time exclusive that was a previous multi-console game. Haze immediately came to mind to me as well. And I wouldn't call it the next Halo, it will be better than that. Well, TimeSplitters 2 is probably the best FPS to ever grace consoles, and this is being made by the same people(Who also made GoldenEye and Perfect Dark). Yep, that would be the case (at least initially, wording seems to suggest a GTA/Oblivion like delayed release on other platforms)... Haze exclusive to PS3 confirmed Looks like I might have to find a way to get $500 for a PS3 in the near future.
  25. Not having the site go down everytime something major happens would be pretty nice, I care about the quality of my posts a lot more than my count, as the length of some of them will show.
