  1. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 12:49 AM) I can't take any complaint that Jim Boeheim makes seriously until he actually schedules a game outside the state of New York in their non conference schedule. Coming up with valid comments and altering your schedule to look better in a ratings system you don't like/believe in are two different things entirely. Besides, there are plenty of major teams that don't play a whole lot of true road games out of conferece (again, cough* Duke cough cough* ).
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 12:44 AM) I agree with all of that, and I certainly don't use numbers when I judge teams who I'm picking to go further in my bracket, that's for sure. That being said, it's completely wrong imo for someone to just say "Well Florida State is better than Winthrop, so they belong in the tournament,"(just using those two teams cause that was the example on gamenight). Now if Florida State has more quality wins, has played a better schedule, etc then ya, they deserve to be in there over the Eagles. It's just completely unfair to pick FSU over Winthrop because someone thinks they're better, jmo. As far as the rpi, it has it's flaws, no doubt. I like it as a tool and that's it, nothing more. I don't think it's the main tool someone should use, but I do like it to group together teams if that makes sense. I agree, you can't just go based totally subjectively either. Ideally there's a bit of a balance in the process. Generally I think the committee does alright, they have one of the most thankless jobs out there and generally do pretty well. I just personally hate that whenever a team comes up RPI is the first thing that is mentioned, that puts a lot of emphasis on who you've played as opposed to who you've beaten (of course the next problem is figuring out who's good and who's not without getting too subjective. Kind of a Catch 22).
  3. I gotta admit, I'm not a big fan of the RPI either. IMO it factors in scheduling too much and skews the rankings. I just think anything that spits out Kentucky or Duke as a top-10 team or Arizona anywhere near the top can't be THAT useful. You can rack up a pretty impressive RPI by playing a lot of decent but not stellar mid-majors and one or two strong teams, espcially if you play in a decent conference (cough* Duke cough cough*). Plus, as Boeheim said just before that, a team gains about as much by losing to a good team as the do winning against a mediocre to poor team, and it doesn't account for teams that get better or worse as time goes on like Louisville or Oklahoma State. I don't mind using it as one of the criteria for judgement, but it seems to be a gigantic factor, which I don't think is right. There are always going to be flaws when you try to attach numbers to the quality of teams, there are just too many things that can't be measured.
  4. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) Pitching, especially in the NL, is a premium for winning, and the Mets just don't have it. How old is Glavine anyway? They had the best record in the NL with basically the same collection of crap last year, outside of Pedro for 23 starts of mediocrity. Plus the defending champs kind of posted a 4.54 ERA last year...
  5. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 07:01 PM) Well on another board I post at they have "total words" and usually my word to post ratio is pretty high relative to others. LOL, I'd hate to see how high mine is on this site.
  6. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 06:08 PM) I think I have less posts than you. (haha yeah i do) And youve had 2 less years to post than I have. Although im going to claim that a long time ago there was once a board error and I really had thousands of posts, but that we all had to re-register and that it wiped my total. Yeah thats it. Okay maybe not, I go for quality not quantity. Haha, yeah, looks like I got you. Realistically though, I should be getting like double-credit for some of the novel-length posts I've made, especially early in my time here. Damn, didn't realize that you've been here that long, or that I've been on longer than Rock.
  7. Drexel is 1-4 against Virginia Commonwealth, Old Dominion, and Hofstra. They're currently 4th in the Colonial, not exactly a good sign for an at-large bid...
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) Registered This should be called post-padder league Hey, so far everyone posting in this thread as at least 3 times as many posts as I do.
  9. God, I love this time of year. Also, sorry Simmons, but Brandan Wright is #3. Period.
  10. Georgetown looks like they're going to lose to Syracuse, the Hoyas can't crack the zone, and Andy Routins has hit 4 3's off the bench...
  11. I gotta say basketball for several reasons (some of which have been mentioned): 1) A large percentage of the calls are subjective. 2) Many of them lead directly to points for the other team through free throws. 3) Foul calls can have a drastic effect on how much certain players are on the court. Unless a pitcher is throwing a ton of balls (which is usually more tied to performance than the calls), that's not the case in other sports. 4) What is being called has a drastic effect on the style of play. For instance, if the refs are calling basically everything, a physical team like Wisconsin or SIU has to be more careful and likely has a reduced chance of winning, and vice-versa if nothing is being called. Unless an umpire has an absurdly large/small strike zone that isn't really an issue, and even then it has to be slanted one way to have a major effect.
  12. Hey guys, Yahoo just opened up a whole bunch of time slots, so I can get basically any draft time we want. I'd appreciate some feedback on when you guys can make it. Normally I like to shoot for 8-9 PM central on a weeknight, and I dislike weekends during the day. Also, I'm going to be at Spring Training from the 6th to the 11th, so it's not going to happen then. Also, I have multiple drafts to worry about (4 on Soxtalk ), so I'd like to avoid having 2 on the same night. Other than that, I'm pretty open.

  15. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 12:29 AM) Question for Zoom: Shouldn't trades be determined by the commish? I mean, let's say I'm in second place, and somebody like Kalapse is in first, he looks to make a trade with Jimbo to enhance his chances, even if the trade is fair, I'm gonna vote against it. I don't want him to get better, obviously. That's not really fair. That's just me, though. Depends on how much you trust me. Personally I don't like doing that because then I always become the bad guy no matter what I do. If that's what people want I can live with it though...
  16. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) Thats really late for me. (I work at 4am every day). Is it possible to make it 8ish? If I could have I would have. My choices were basically 9:30 or later or before 6, which is a bit early for most...
