QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) I think that kind of goes along with what has been said here. With the big run support, he is able to focus and pitch up to his capabilities. Hopefully, he can start pitching well regardless of what kind of runs his teammates are putting on the board. How do his quality starts look when he does not have much run support? I don't really think that's what they're saying, I think they're implying that the only reason he has that many wins is because he gets great run support, not because he pitches well in those games. That's really not the case, because they've put up some runs in his losses as well.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 10:13 AM) There are a lot of pitchers that could go 9-4 with 133 runs of support in 17 starts. His run support actually has very little to do with his win total. A good chunk of those runs came in his good starts, like when we beat Cleveland 11-0, Seattle 13-3, and that 20-6 Cardinals game (Montero allowed 4). Including last night, only 2 of his 9 wins came in non-quality starts, and even last night it might have been a quality start if not for the error. He also got a no-decision in a game where he went 7 innings and only allowed 2 earned runs, so even that kind of balances out.

QUOTE(indyman @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) Vaz for Young = Brolio for Brock That's making quite a leap for a guy that's never played a game in the majors.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) That's because Ozzie was smart and yanked his ass in the 5th inning. Even assuming both of those guys got in, that still only 6, with two of those being unearned. Plus he was still throwing strikes. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 12:24 AM) I just hope the Sox can continue to provide him with ridiculous run-support. His run support numbers don't have that much to do with his win total. Only one of his wins came in a non-quality start.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 11:47 PM) He was? Were you watching a tivo'd game from earlier in the season? Compared to the past, yeah. He wasn't 3-0 or 3-1 on every hitter in the lineup. God, he only allowed 5 hits and 1 walk. People make it sound like he allowed 9 runs again...

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) How about if it was to benefit a charity? http://www.plainfieldhumane.com/ I've done this twice so far, placed 5th last time. It is alot more exciting than online. I should have clarified: I meant online. I'd love to get a decent cash game going again, but we lost a lot of our key guys.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) Yes, Hank Scorpio. See, that's what happens when the resident Simpsons' expert ignores the thread for a while. A perfect Simpsons' reference goes un-noticed. -
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) um, yeah. but thanks for the comment, forum troll. gee, or maybe he's got the 16 million in his back pocket and doesn't put forth as much effort as he could in workouts, stretches, etc. if you think that no players work like that you're living in lala land. :headshake Where are you getting the 16 mil from? He's "only" making 10.5 this year, and to the best of my knowledge we aren't even paying all of it. Granted that's the most on the team, but it's not quite that ridiculous. He didn't look that bad today. He was getting ahead of hitter more and wasn't leaving as many meatballs over the middle of the plate. He got victimized by an error, and several of the hits he allowed were on pretty solid pitches. If he keeps pitching like he did tonight, he's going to come out ahead more often than not.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 02:34 AM) They only played 144 games in '95 meaning the season was shortened by 18 games so they could have won as many as 108 games that season. '95 was shortened as well. You're right, I mis-read it.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) I'm interested to see what OJ thinks of the USC coaches giving this info to ESPN already. It could either piss him off, or further lock him up, big gamble. Then again what do they have to lose with their basketball tradition, or lack thereof. Theoretically, that's a recruiting violation. You're not supposed to discuss recruits in any way until they sign. Edit- That's what I thought, it just says "sources." That could mean a lot of things, not necessarily that one of the coaches let it slip.

I used to play on poker room, but it got way too slow, and I had connection problems. I use Ultimate Bet now. I just can't see myself playing for real money though.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) the 95 season was shortened due to the strike. It's a joke that the 2005 sox aren't on there though. Still, even if they won the rest of their games they would have only finished with 98.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) Thoughts to ponder to all those in favor of bringing Jones in. In bringing Jones in, the Sox are adding approximately $5-7 mill on this year's payroll alone, as well as adding another $13.5 mill on next year's. The Sox payroll is starting to increase at a pretty steep rate, but with raises due to several players on the team just due to their contracts, are the Sox going to be able to afford a $115 million payroll? You also have to understand Jones is almost undoubtedly leaving Chicago after 2007 if acquired - his agent is the only and only Scott Boras, as previously mentioned on this thread, and he's going to be looking for a contract that ties him up for the rest of his career, probably in the $14-17 million a year range, as well as probably a no-trade clause in his contract. If the Sox were to grant him both of those wishes(it's sorta possible, as Jones actually signed his contract with Atlanta with no help from Boras...as I recall, Boras had about a $115 million contract ready to go with Texas, but Andruw gave Atlanta a hometown discount and stayed), 1 of 4 scenarios will play out 1. The Sox hit a wall around 2009-10, and they are stuck with an albatross of a contract. 2. The Sox continue playing well, but Jones hits a wall, and they are stuck with an albatross of a contract. 3. Both the Sox and Jones hit a wall, and the Sox are fistf***ed. 4. Both the Sox and Jones continue to play well, and there are no consequences. If Jones were to leave, what do the Sox do in CF for the long term? Both Sweeney and Owens are mediocre to bad defensive CFers, thus causing a void in CF defensively for the Sox, unless they are to again spend big on a CFer, which limits their spending on other parts of the team. The thoughts to ponder in not bringing Jones in are much simpler. You have great defense in CF, you have a CFer for 5 more years beyond 2006, guaranteed, you already have a good offense, you already have a good defense, and you're putting out a team that costs $13 million less than a team with Andruw Jones, thus allowing you to put the money to more than one use on a player that is really unnecessary to bring in. All fantasies aside, Jones to the Sox, atleast to me, makes no sense. Short-term, it would be huge for the Sox, and it's very apparent that KW wants to repeat as World Champion. However, while that need to win keeps this Jones a possibility, albeit a small possibility, it just does not make sense long term. To me, I am seeing 4 scenarios where a Jones acquisition turns out negatively, and 1 where it is positive short and long term. Regardless of how likely the positive scenario is to play out, you can't like the number of scenarios where it turns out bad. All solid points. I just don't really see the point in giving up Anderson and another solid prospect and adding another monster contract in an area that isn't a serious need. I've never been much of a Jones fan. He isn't an elite hitter, but he gets payed like one. I'd like a little more than a .270-ish average and .340-ish OBP from a guy making that much money, even if he is solid defensively. He'd probably be our 4th best hitter right now. Last year was a monster fluke.
-
He has a .273 career average, a .346 career OBP, has hit over 35 homers only twice, will cost at least 2 good prospects, is still due about $6.5 mil this year and $13.5 next year, and his agent is Scott Boras. No thanks.

SoxTalk Fantasy Football Sign-Ups...
ZoomSlowik replied to ZoomSlowik's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Bump We've got 17 right now, which is just short of enough for two leagues. We still need at least a few more. I can easily make more leagues if necessary as well. -
Soxtalk Fantasy Football Leagues Sign-up

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) Soooo, um, when can we get this thing on the road? I wasn't really going to worry about setup until we got at least enough people for two leagues. We're a little short of that right now. Otherwise I have to figure out who we let in for now and who gets stuck in limbo, or have both leagues a few short and not be able to start. Anyways, I have my league setup, although I'm not going to post info until I know what the roster will be. ChwRock2, you can setup the other league if you want as well. -
QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) To the poster that said he traded in his old system and games, I have a question. Was it a PS2 system? How many games and what types were they? How much did you get towards a 360? I have been thinking of doing this for awhile, I just have to pull the trigger. I have two PS2s (one has a read error, but can be fixed), 26 games which are basically all EA Sports series. This was a while ago, but I'm pretty sure I got $70 for my semi-functioning PS2 (some disc read errors). The games will vary greatly depending on popularity and how old they are, but any older sports games are likely to net little cash. The previous year's games could potentially net $10 to $20, but anything else will definitely be under $10, and could be as little as $2.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) Well, Colorado really has nowhere to go but up. Improvement by default. The two greatest words in the English language. De fault! De fault! De fault! /Homer Simpson voice.

The two guys lamenting about their teams are in my division. Usually a good sign. By the way, it looks like the White Sox are also available, which is very surprising. They are absolutely loaded as well, they won 108 games last year.

I agree with you guys, I don't want to see anything happen to his swing. I'd have much rather seen Thome in it, I don't see it affecting his swing anywhere near as much.

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) And if its painful typing tru in feel free to put in chwrock2 Right tru btw i dont think we get anymore points for that Pretty sure we don't. I didn't get 150 for Hammer, and that wasn't even from a thread on here.

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) Is Indiana the only place to buy them? I need to go get me some. There are several places in Wisconsin. Apparently it's legal to sell them, but not use them. :headshake Anyways, they make you buy like a $4 permit to transport them, and several of the places have buy-one-get-one free deals.

We got the 28th. Sounds pretty sweet.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) lol, I like this part: Halos Heaven notes that if Ozzie Guillen elects Orlando Cabrera (.305/.364/.436) to the All-Star game, the relationship between the two teams could improve enough to facilitate a trade. LOL what a load of crap. Figgins is a solid player and would almost certainly be a favorite of Ozzie. However, I'm not sure he really has a place on our roster right now. He plays CF, but I wouldn't be too comfortable with him out there. LF, 3B, and 2B are his other main positions, but we seem set for now at those positions. I suppose he could replace Pods, but the Sox don't seem too anxious to do that right now.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 01:29 PM) f***ing PK's. Germany just beat the best team in the World Cup. Well, that's what he gets for leaving Messi on the bench and taking out Crespo and Riquelme. Their backup keeper looked brutal on the PKs. I don't think he read one shot correctly.
