  1. I didn't say that I thought Konerko was better or that Lee is overpayed, but I don't think Lee is THAT much better than Konerko and I don't think it's that big a bargain They're roughly the same age and they had somewhat similar resumes before last season. Lee is faster and is a better defensive player, but Konerko has more power, and I'm not so sure that Lee is going to hit over .300 again. I personally wouldn't even think of giving him more than 5-75, and that's with another fairly good year (something like .290 and high 30's for homers, which IMO is probably what he'll produce) this year.
  2. Some of those haven't updated yet, which might explain why they're so high on a few of them. You gotta be pretty dense to drop a top 5 team down to the middle of the pack after one bad week of play. I bet they didn't drop the Yankees that far.
  3. So because the computer nerds at the BCS left USC out of a title game they probably would have won and they lost on a last second play their run is suddenly less impressive? That doesn't make much sense to me.
  4. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 11:03 PM) That's a big suprise to me. I guess you can pretty much put Williams and Washington in the draft. Beat you by a few seconds.
  5. That probably means that Williams and Washington are going to enter the draft now.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) Pujols makes $14M this year. If you really want a deal, $472K for Miguel Cabrera, 2007 will be his first year of arb. He's so underpaid it's not even funny. My bad, thought Pujols signed for 10 years at $100 mil and these years were less money. Obviously it's only 7 years.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) The Derek Lee of last year? Absolutely. He was the best player in baseball last year, all around. If you could guarantee Lee could repeat last season with the bat, he'd be worth $18-$20 mil, or >$20 mil if he went to the Yankees. But as others have pointed out, the Lee of last year was vastly above the Lee of previous years. I for one still don't know how he can expect to repeat last year's numbers, simply because last year he was just that good. That's the point, there's no way he repeats last year's numbers, even if he has another good year. I'd still say he's not worth more than $15 mil, few guys are. If he had about 3 years under his belt last year and was a few years younger then maybe. Beltran was only 27, coming off a monster year, and played a premium position and he couldn't get that much money. I'd still take Pujols at $10 mil a year. It might be a really long term deal, but that price is great.
  8. You already mentioned the big one. Just show them some kind of White Sox World Series related merchandise. I personally like asking them what they're planning for the 100 year anniversary of their last World Series title. You could also point out how dense they are trying to make conclusions based on 3% of the games, or that the Astros beat their ass after starting off 15-30. Or you could go with the typical "simulated games" jokes for Prior and Wood and point out that Sean Marshall, Jerome Williams, and Glendon Rusch are going to have to start pitching a lot more often without all the early days off. Or you could just wait a couple of weeks until the balance shifts the other way and shove it back in their face.
  9. QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) Shelton, Maggs and Irod can mash not to mention the decent bats of Inge, Monroe, and Guillen. They have a pretty solid core and with the way the white sox have been so far this year and last year struggling to score runs I would give the edge to them. Things can change though. I'd be very surprised if at least two of those guys you mentioned don't end up on the DL at some point.
  10. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) Why the hell did Lee do this? If Aramis was locked, I could understand, but that's bull. Ramirez can opt out of his contract this winter and hit the market. And he could easily command a 5-year 75M deal, since he's put up better numbers than Adrian Beltre and Beltre has a 5-year 65M deal. Comparing contracts and performances doesn't really work. Not every superstar is making what he is worth (Pujols, Santana), and on the other side a lot of guys are overpaid (Beltre, Sexon, Beltran). If you really want to use that approach though, let's come up with a more relevant comparison. Is Lee really that much better than Paul Konerko, the guy who was the team leader on a champion, was the top FA on the market, and signed for 5-60?
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) I wouldnt say that.... Bonderman and Verlander are both absolute filthy. Rogers has shown he can still pitch and being out of the Texas heat should only help. Maroth is a decent pitcher good guy for back of the rotation. Robertson sucks but besides that yeah. Their rotation is a lot weaker than the other competitors. Bonderman is the only guy that I'd call well above average right now (Rogers is okay, but does all his damage before the All-star break), and he posted an ERA of 4.57 last year. Verlander is going to have some good starts, but he'll have some bad ones too. He'll probably need a couple of years of polish to be a real threat.
  12. :headshake When will these Tigers learn? You could say the exact same thing about the majority of outings for any decent (and a few bad) starters. You can't just take those two pitches back. You made them, they happened, deal with it.
  13. The Reds also aren't exactly the greatest team to use as a comparison for a player's role. This is a team that keeps putting Dunn in the outfield despite his obvious defensive deficiencies. Freel should really be playing more often than he is.
  14. QUOTE(supernuke @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 03:15 PM) Quick, someone go break Urbina out of jail. I was wondering when someone was going to make that comment/joke. Honestly, it works in either situation.
  15. If D-Lee keeps playing like he did last year, that's a decent price. If he regresses a bit towards his .275-ish average with low-30's power (like he did for every year of his career but last year), the price isn't so good. I seriously doubt he hits well over .300 with 45 homers again. It's not that big a discount for the Cubs either way. It's a 5-65 contract, which is slightly more than Paulie got. I think it'd be a bit of a stretch for him to get anything more than 5-75 (years or money) on the open market. He is going to be 31 at the end of the season and only has one really good season under his belt.
  16. QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 02:09 PM) Can anybody tell how Garcia pitched? Did he have more mph on that fastball... did he look good. I like the results so far that Detroit Lineup is stacked PS Detroit TV play by play people or so very boring I really appreciate DJ and HAwk now It looks like his velocity is better. He's been in the 90's on his fastball (only ones I remember seeing were 91, 93, and a 96 that was probably a bit off). His control wasn't all that good early though, he hung a few breaking balls.
  17. QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) Yes, happy birthday to ZoomSlowNIk from southsLider2k5. And Happy Birthday to ZoomSlowik from The Critic. I was going to point that out eventually, but I thought I'd lay off him a bit. Thanks guys.
  18. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 12:53 PM) He now has listed over 12 schools. he will not be a jayhawk. My guess, Texas if Aldridge goes pro. Aldridge did declare for the draft.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) Any updates on Darrell Arthur yet Jimbo? I heard that he was going to be making a decision soon but I havent heard anything... I'm pretty sure he can't sign until April 12, when the late signing period starts.
  20. Rush is not a lotto pick right now. The scouts soured on him a bit toward the end of the season when he struggled. It is a weak draft, but he's still well behind guys like Morrison, Roy, Gay, and Carney. He's not going to get a guarantee in the lottery (or at least he shouldn't).
  21. This is my department. There are a whole bunch of them up and running already. I still have some people not assigned to leagues, but not enough for a full league yet (I think I have like 6). If there is enough interest, I'll set up some mid-season leagues later. But for right now, there's nothing available. Just for future reference, we start setting them up in early February when Yahoo starts taking registration. I think most of them were setup and filled by early March.
  22. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) I'm with you, very well done top 10....except I don't think Louisville can be a top 10 team (or even close) in the Big East. Duke will be borderline simply because they are Duke, so I can go with them in their spot, but Louisville is still a way off. I think they can be a top 10 team, but obviously they're going to have to be healthier and better than last year. The conference won't be quite as strong. They have a lot of players back and bring in a pretty good recruiting class. I kind of like Cuse though. Losing G-Mac hurts, but Nichols, McRoberts, and Devendorf are pretty good, and Paul Harris probably should have been a McDonald's All-American. The polls are really a toss-up after the first few teams because everyone has some holes after that. Even those are a bit up for grabs depending on who goes. Right now I have the upper tier as Texas-LSU-Florida-Kansas-UCLA-UNC-OSU, but obviously a few of those teams can drop as guys declare for the draft. Florida looks like a gimme #1 right now with all the super-sophomores claiming that they are staying.
  23. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 05:07 PM) http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/9364438/2 When is the last time the National champ had all five starters return? I believe the 1998 Arizona Wildcats?
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) If Pods = Willie "Mayes" Hayes; Jenks = Ricky Vaughn........ Does that mean that Frank Thomas = Jack Parkman? I'd say that Thome fills the Parkman role. He's the newcomer to the successful team that seems to be our only major threat right now. He even got sold to the Sox in the movie. Just so we don't do the same thing and end up with a random Japanese outfielder that keeps running into the wall, although Tanaka was definitely a better fielder than Ozuna.
