  1. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) If it were moved back to NBA distance, it would only help the teams whose big men can shoot from the outside. They could spread the floor better. I can't think of a whole lot of teams that have big guys that can hit NBA 3's. Outside of Pittsnoggle, Vukusic, and maybe McRoberts (he doesn't shoot enough to get a great feel for his range), I'm drawing a blank.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) This is the main reason I'd be opposed. The more you move the line back, the less upsets you get come tourny time which is one of the cooler aspects of the game imo. I think there are still enough suspect higher seeds and enough strong lower seeds that it wouldn't affect it that much. For some reason it doesn't seem like there are that many upsets that are the direct result of 3-point binges in the NCAA tourney (West Virginia is the one major exception). Plus once you get past the first round most of the teams are more closely matched anyways. I really don't think a deeper 3 is going to eliminate that many upsets, except maybe the 5 seed and higher losses in the first round. Even then, a team with major flaws like Florida and Alabama last year still are susceptible to the upset. Plus I don't really think moving it back 9 inches would drastically affect the top notch shooters like the Nova guards, Redick, or Pittsnoggle (I don't watch the mid-majors enough to come up with good examples from that group).
  3. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) Oh man that's a bad example. That guy fires s*** up from half court and it still goes in, that's how he got his own term in the first place. Two better examples are guys like Rich McBride and Colin Falls. Over 3/4 of their shot attempts come from behind the arc, and while McBride might play decent defense, Falls offers pretty much nothing else. These are also two guys that never seem to be more than a couple of inches past the arc when they shoot. They can get away with it when they are shooting 39.4 and 41.3 percent respectively, but could they do that if it was more like 35-37 percent? Or even lower? I'm not so sure. You don't see a whole lot of guys with their skill set in an NBA rotation. Yes, there are a few, but Reggie Miller and Peja are the only two I can think of that are major factors, and both of them are exceptional.
  4. I have a bad feeling about Juan in the two hole. We all complain so much about how he swings at too many pitches and can't make contact, now he's moving to a spot in the order where those problems hurt even more. I hope it works out, but I liked what Iguchi gave us in the 2 hole last year.
  5. I personally think it's a little too easy to make. Teams shoot around 50% from the arc way too often, and it's not just the better players that are hitting them at a high rate. It's becoming a deciding factor in a lot of games, when it really shouldn't be. I'd move it back to the international line and see how that goes. It shouldn't affect the really good shooters, but hopefully some of the borderline shooters will see their percentages dip a little. A lot of teams that aren't the greatest at shooting are relying too heavily on the 3 (Memphis and the Illini come to mind), and moving it back should change that a little. It also should leave a little more room for players to move inside the arc, since teams would have to cover the player a little farther out.
  6. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) i seem to recall there being some ohio university and mac hoop fans on here. if so, this would be of interest. point guard jeremy fears of ou is transferring. he will finish the school year in athens then is returning to chicago. word out this way is that he is interested in depaul. jay bilas rated fears among the top-10 point guards in the nation in the preseason but he's struggled with the bobcat's move from a running/pressing style to a slower offensive and defensive pace. fears is from joliet. chicago hoops article I wouldn't go to DePaul if I were him. They already recruited two fairly talented PG's in the past two years in Curry and Walker. They also are seriously out-classed in the Big East. They just don't have the wing players or big men to hang with the good teams, and only Clarke and Chandler really have any hope. Now if he were to play for the Illini...
  7. Frank the Tank 35 has been added in the last open spot. You guys are all set to go now!

Anyone that is interested in playing roto baseball, whether you are already in a league or not, please let me know by posting in either this thread or PM'ing me. I will not be starting a thread for the league just yet. There are still some pending spots in Leagues 4 and 8 (and I guess my league too, oops), which I will get back to you on as soon as I get in touch with the commissioners. 9. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 11:48 PM) We never came through on teh minor league draft (s***ty comissioner to blame...ie Me). My thoughts are everyone gets an email addy and we'll have a draft order (we'll do the opposite of the start of the main draft). So lets say I have the 1st pick in the main player draft well in the 1st round of the minor league draft I'd pick last. And than in the 2nd round of the minor league draft I'd pick 1st and we could just email it around till all the selections are made. With the major league portion being done live on yahoo. I have another question on the minor league draft: how exactly do we determine who is eligible for that draft? If we just do ROY guidlines you're going to get some pretty strong picks in the minor league draft that are already on major league rosters. Even if we do guys that haven't played in the majors yet, someone is going to get a steal with Delmon Young. My vote is we wait until late May or June, and then anyone that isn't on a major league roster at that time is eligible.
  10. QUOTE(farmteam @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) We should have head-to-head. Knightni already switched it. We're working on filling the open spots now. Some of that stuff is still in limbo. Edit- I added VenomSox to the roster, since we know that T R U/Man of Steel won't be joining us.
  11. QUOTE(chisox72 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) I am not, something is jacked up here and its still saying scout seat and suite holder presale... Not recognizing my password at all... I had that problem too, apparently those people got a head start of a couple of minutes or something. I had pretty good success. I got 2 tickets for Opening Day and each of the Cub games. They're not terrible seats either (Upper Deck between the baselines, nothing higher than row 18).
  12. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) couSTEVEALFORDgh! That one could make the most sense. Creen is another. Some of the names I've heard don't seem to make much sense to me, like Wright, Few, or Majerus. I haven't seen/heard enough from Beilen to know if he'd leave or not.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) Yup, Memphis just got f***ed over. I think more than likely Texas is the team that loses out, although with their brutal conference schedule Memphis could suffer too. That's a really tough call right now, but those 3 with UConn and Duke seem to be ahead of the pack. Much as I like the Big Ten, I don't like their chances of stealing a #1 seed. All of the contenders minus OSU have at least 4 loses already, and they're also the only one that hasn't lost to a Big Ten dog yet. One of the teams would have to go on a serious run.
  14. I'd rather have Tyson with that contract than some schmuk like Eric Dampier or Adonal Foyle. The contracts for big guys are just absolutely ridiculous across the league. Tyson can definitely be an effective player when he has his s*** together, almost like a poor man's Marcus Camby.
  15. We will definitely be starting over, with a draft coming up hopefully in early March. I want to change the format a little too, with 5 keepers per team and no limitations (if we're still going after 3 years, I want to add a rule that states that you have to either trade or let go anyone that you kept all 3 years, but that's it). I'd like to do a minor league draft like I'm pretty sure you guys did in the past, but I'm not entirely sure how those work. Open spots look like they will be few and far between, if there even are any. I've already got the league more than half-filled, and I just came up with the league this afternoon! I'm getting a lot of interest from previous players, and it looks like it should be a kickass league.
  16. How did this thread end up here? This should be in the fantasy forum. Can one of the admins move it when you get a chance? Thanks.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) So is Duke back @ #1 next week? I hope not, but they probably will be. Most pollsters feel that they need to drop a team that loses, even if it's a close game on the road against the #4 team in the country. Great game by Villanova. They played UConn very tough inside, got some good 3-point shooting in the second half, and really took a big advantage in the turnover battle. UConn was a little sloppy, and Nova took advantage. UConn only played a decent game. Gay was very good outside of a couple of shots, and Armstrong was okay. However, Williams turned it over too much and Boone was a non-factor. This win might have sealed up a #1 seed for Villanova. They've got a pretty solid resume now, and as long as they don't lose to a bottom-half Big East team the rest of the way, I think they should get it.
  18. Okay, back to the keeper league. It appears that the previous league is dead, so I have some serious veterans to deal with. My plan as of right now is to start another keeper league from scratch, which I will run. I'll work on building a roster, with priority going to those that were in the previous league. I'll be getting in contact with those that were in the league. Edit- Please don't ask if there are any openings. As of right now if everyone I contacted joins I'd have to cut two or three people. I'll let you know if there are any openings once I have more details.

  20. Our league isn't quite ready to go yet, mostly due to roster issues that need to be resolved in other leagues before I know who I need to take. You guys can start posting when you'd like to have the draft though. Personally, my schedule is fairly open. My only limits are that weekends during the day are bad for me, and I can't draft until about 8 on most weeknights. I'd also like to avoid doing the draft on an NCAA tournament day.

  23. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) Is Jason slacking this year..? I'm in again. Heads.. what leage were we on..?? I'll get to you in a minute . I posted some info on the status of the keeper league in the threat titled "Keepers." I'm in the process of starting a new league, but I'm kind of swamped with the other leagues right this second. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you guys.
  24. NOTICE TO MEMBERS OF KEEPER LEAGUE... It appears that the keeper league is no more. I have only received interest from 5 players from last year, and we are currently operating without a commissioner. This means that those still interested in Fantasy Baseball will have to find a different league. I can either find one of the existing leagues to put you in, start a new league and try to make sure that it is composed of fantasy veterans, or I can try to start a new keeper league. Please let me know. I'll try to contact those that this affects in addition to this post. Edit- It appears that I am personally going to lean towards starting a new keeper league for the players that are coming back. I'll be getting in touch with those of you that this affects shortly.
  25. It seems like we're getting a little antsy, so I'm going to post what I have so far. Leagues 1, 4, and 8 aren't quite finalized yet, and I'm not entirely sure of any roto league status right now. I had to merge Leagues 2 and 3 because of non-returning players and move things around a little, so don't panick if the number is different. Contact the commish of your league for info. I will be setting up various threads for the leagues as soon as I can. If there is an open spot, it will appear as such on the list. Those that have been placed can get started.
