  1. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 8, 2013 -> 09:54 PM) Cam Newton last year struggled hard until towards the end of the year when he actually put on a superman cape. Andy Dalton also struggled a little last year. And Ponder did as well after getting off to a hot start. I'm quite underwhelmed by those examples. Andy Dalton had 7 more TD's, almost 200 more yards and improved his passer rating by 7 points from his rookie year. Cam's yardage numbers were basically identical and he had 5 fewer picks, though his TD's did go down (mostly on the ground). Christian Ponder, who cares? He shouldn't be on a roster unless it's a 2-QB league. If anything, QB's that are fantasy-starter material seem to either hold steady or decrease their mistakes in their second year. I don't really see a noticeable trend though (unless you consider s***ty players continuing to be s***ty a trend).
  2. I'd laugh at the Giants if I didn't desperately need points from David Wilson.
  3. Let's all point and laugh at the guy that had Anquan Boldin on his bench. Oh wait, it was me.
  4. I can't wait for all the speculation concerning Fitzgerald going to Texas or USC this off-season.
  5. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 8, 2013 -> 03:21 PM) Told guys to stay away from Ridley and any NE RB as they get benched quite often and are fool's gold. No one listened. Also 2nd year QB's usually take a step back so unless you play in a 2QB league, there are better options out there. Roddy White almost didn't play today, someone should've done their homework there. Examples? I'm seriously struggling to think of a legitimately talented 2nd year QB that suffered a major drop-off in fantasy production in recent history. Wilson played fine, just didn't get touchdowns. As for White, I obviously knew he wasn't 100%, but finding three other legit options is another issue (especially since I generally waited a while before getting my WR2 and WR3).
  6. My teams are eating a giant pot of genital jambalaya so far. Wilson, White and Lamar Miller killing me in one league and Spiller and Shorts doing it in the other. Edit- Wilson hit a long touchdown right as I typed that. Could use some more though!
  7. I guess we've found this year's Kevin Ogletree. Rush to add Julius Thomas in 3, 2...
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 1, 2013 -> 01:16 AM) He already said no to Notre Dame. I'm fairly confident he'd never go to ND, he really seems to hate them. I really felt good about him sticking around when he declined to interview at Michigan.
  9. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 1, 2013 -> 01:06 AM) If I had to buy a program, Id buy Northwestern. Being in the west its going to have legitimate chances to play in the Big10 championship. Theres no reason that it cant be a Stanford type destination for players. I am slightly encouraged that they have 37 points with minimal contributions from Colter and Mark. Their depth and athleticism seems to be improving significantly. The one downside is that they NEVER seem to be able to put 4 quality defensive backs on the field at the same time. The only legit group that comes to mind was 2009 with McManis/Maybin/Phillips/Peters, and even then they missed some games. And of course NU has to make it interesting. I have no idea why they chucked it deep twice there.
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 1, 2013 -> 12:54 AM) Northwestern is winning, but I can't shake the feeling that they're losing. It's like impending doom or something. It hasn't been pretty. They haven't been able to run the ball and the D got torched a few times after White went in at corner. Don't really care if this holds up though (unless some of these injuries are long term, which Jones probably is). Mark has to have pulled something too, not having him on kicks is weird and he looks a little slow. To be fair, he's drawing a crowd on the edge though.
  11. I really hope these stalls in the red zone don't come back to haunt NU. That's where losing Colter really hurts, the lack of a QB run makes them easier to defend.
  12. As an NU fan, I don't think that was a penalty and he definitely doesn't deserve an ejection.
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 1, 2013 -> 12:35 AM) Zoom do you think they can lock up fitzgerald forever? I think they did already, want to say he has like 10 more years. And f*** these guys for booing at these injuries. Yes, I'm sure their QB sitting out after two plays and Jones' knee exploding were faking it.
  14. Well, worked last time... NU's O is extremely uninspiring right now (losing Colter really kills their versatility) and the D has been on the field for about 4 days. Mark must be banged up too, not returning kicks and limited touches most of the game.
  15. Backup CB getting burned after an injury to the starter. This reminds me of last year. And of course Cal gets a quick whistle after that fumble when NU desperately needs a break. Edit- Woooooooo! Not over!
  16. I'll take the lead at the half, but WAY too many injuries.
  17. Nite, your argument hit a major snag when you mentioned Matt Ryan. His ADP in ESPN leagues is 36.5 and it's all the way down at 47.6 on Yahoo. There's absolutely no reason to take him in the first two rounds in a standard league since he's frequently available beyond the third 3rd. That is exactly the reason that people are saying it's dumb to take a QB early, you can find serviceable to good quarterbacks (guys like Newton, Ryan, RGIII, Wilson, Stafford, possibly even Brady or Manning if you're on Yahoo or have a seriously anti-QB draft) in the 3rd-6th. Your RB's on the other hand are a much bigger question mark at that point. You have two high upside but questionable options in Lamar Miller and David Wilson, but after that it's a mix of failed vets, rookies/unproven guys, and people that aren't slated to get feature back carries at this point. Then consider that 1) you need to start two of them 2) as you said, they tend to get hurt at a fairly high rate, so you should really have three decent options. You're less screwed in the event of injury if you have Lynch, Gore and Miller than if you have something like Gore, Miller and Bradshaw (and that assumes that you didn't take a WR in the first few rounds as well).
  18. I joined, though I may be drafting on my phone as I will be trying to do several things at once at that time.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 09:10 AM) http://www.ebay.com/itm/1990-Leaf-300-Fran...11#ht_178wt_917 That card is damn near perfect, and it's selling for $22. Ten years ago, that card would be $220. It doesn't matter what kind, cards just aren't that valuable anymore. It's freaking Jordan. He's one of the few that still has value, though scs787 doesn't exactly have a 84/85 Star or 86/87 Fleer.
  20. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 11:01 PM) Would it not being in a Beckett be a good thing or a bad thing? Kinda bad because you won't get a dependable answer that you can reference when trying to sell it. However, it tells you absolutely nothing about the value of the card. There's mountains of crappy promo stuff with minimal value that won't be listed (some of it in my room), but there's also probably a few rare items with actual market value. I would guess it's not totally worthless because it's MJ from early in his career, but that could still mean $20 or considerably more.
  21. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 09:41 PM) FWIW, if we have any collectors here, its a "Rare" 1984 Olympics Promo card. Admittedly I haven't collected cards in over a decade, so I could be completely full of it. However, that doesn't sound like something that Beckett (or a similar "official" source) would list. When I purchased the magazine regularly, they only listed major retail releases, not promotional giveaways/event specific items/dealer premiums, ect. I don't think the website was significantly different, but I didn't use that much and it was in its early stages. They also didn't list inserts with low production runs (under 75 I think, though that number may be wrong) because there weren't enough of them on the market to establish an accurate market value (or some similar BS). Your only recourse might be to find some kind of "expert" that really knows their s***. Even then, it may be hard to find a buyer since it's not something everyone is familiar with like his "official" rookie cards (assuming it is worth real money of course).
