2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
ZoomSlowik replied to He_Gawn's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I think OSU and Michigan are both a bit high. They both have some question marks with the new faces breaking into their lineup. I personally don't see a ton of difference between 2 and 6 in the conference (and even with Indiana, they need to defend better) and those teams will all beat each other up a bit in conference. I'd have MSU, OSU, Michigan and Wisconsin all in the 10-20 range with Minnesota slightly lower. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 11:29 PM) I tried to post something legitimate about the NBA, but perhaps this thread is broken since it's just become a RZZZA sped thread. It's the T-Wolves. What did you expect? Besides, that was just your way of saying "look at this awesome guy I just picked up in fantasy basketball" without coming right out and saying it.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 10:33 PM) Well, technically I didn't say he's a bench player...I said he's a member of the bench mob...slightly different meanings but...let's not rehash this again Exactly how is that NOT claiming that he is a bench player?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 10:41 AM) *fires up the ESPN trade generator, turns off cap restrictions* That second part is going to make it really hard for the Bulls to do anything. Basically, they can't increase their salary at all because they gave Kirk the non-tax payer MLE. That means they can't go over the "apron" (something like $74 million) under any circumstances. Any deal they take back has to be smaller than what they send out (which may require cap space) or essentially match perfectly. There, a post with some actual substance. To bad it contributes to the overall narrative that the Bulls are stuck with what they have right now.

This season needs to start already so we can start laughing at any misfortune for the Heat and Lakers and start trying to figure out pipedream scenarios where the Bulls get Harden or dump Boozer's contract on someone.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 09:42 AM) And I just did. I was just sick of the inconsistency at QB, so I traded Stafford/Green Ellis for Drew Brees. I have McFadden/Ridley/Donald Brown (only out 1-2 more weeks) at RB. I felt BJGE was expendable. Not sure if this was smart, but we'll see. I just had to make a move. I like it value-wise, but you're probably going to be looking for another RB once McFadden has his annual injury.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 12:09 AM) I see Bender. Yeah, weird, it works now. Carry on then.

So, I tried to get rid of the Rally Crede and go back to my old avatar. However, it won't seem to change even though I've updated it. Anyone got any ideas why it keeps coming up?

Sooooo, do we have a league to join? Do I need to make one?

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 10:20 PM) I dont post on realgm, I just read it. I actually know a lot about the NBA, I just put on an act for you guys because you're fun to troll also, that icon makes you all look like the same person That reminds me, I have to switch back to my old one since Rally Crede was an epic failure.

QUOTE (Felix @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 10:03 PM) You missed the part where I said the thread was s***ty BEFORE you. So just use your imagination to picture how truly godawful it is now. I mean s***, the last three pages have been you arguing a ridiculous point just for the sake of arguing, leading to an asshole like me coming into the thread with the sole purpose of calling you a moron. THAT is what the NBA thread is all about. This would be hilarious if it weren't sadly true.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 09:32 PM) Jesus can't ball. Shiva, however... Ever seen a four armed deity dribble? If he can walk on water, I would imagine that he can walk on air too. Plus you'd never have any character issues.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 09:22 PM) I've heard people say they'd want to trade Rose and Thibs. But I just think they ARE the Bulls as we know them. I don't think you're a real fan if you want to get rid of those two, I don't care if it is for Lebron or Dwight or Jesus himself. I'm pretty sure Jesus himself would be a pretty sizeable upgrade.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 08:42 PM) lol @ this thread So last year...everyone shoo'd Felix away for being too anti-Bulls. Now this year, everyone is flaming RZZZA for being a Bulls optimist. It was more that he dared to speak out against Derrick Rose than the Bulls. Frankly, I didn't give two s***s, but others did. People rip the others Bulls all the time.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 02:01 PM) I don't even know what your definition of "bench mob" is, you apparently don't include Deng in that even though he's in with the mob all the time. So I don't put a lot of stock into your assertion that the mob was the 9th most used unit. That along with chronic injuries last year forced Thibs to make changes to his lineup. No surprise there. I don't think anybody can dispute that Thibs has his set rotations though "The Bench Mob" has always been a combination of bench players (I'm not even getting into the previous argument here, that's the definition of the nickname. You got a problem with it, talk to Stacey King.). That's not Deng. His picture isn't on that shirt a few posts up. He does play with the bench even though he starts the game and plays most of his minutes with the first unit. Thus, it can't be a "line-change" if one of the starters stays on the floor. Two of those lineups also involved Korver playing with the starters. Every coach has their wrinkles to try to put solid units on the floor. Harden and Ginobili come off the bench, Bynum played with the second unit to get more post touches, the Heat virtually never put all of their "Big 3" on the bench, ect. For Thibs, it's flipping Korver and Deng when he starts working in subs. Deng is still in there to start the game and the second half as well as down the stretch though. Notice I left off lineups involving Watson at point with 4 other starters and the Hamilton/Brewer variance at SG since those were frequently starting lineups. Any competent coach tries to stay consistent with their rotations, but that doesn't mean that they strictly use all starters and all bench players in different lineups or that they won't adjust if someone is struggling. That includes Thibs.
-
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 01:54 PM) I just think its fair to include Deng with the bench if he's playing so many minutes with them. Thibs does do line changes, any Bulls fan who watches the Bulls habitually will know that. Obviously he'll change it up a bit sometimes due to injuries or do to individual suckage, but generally speaking my statement is true. Thibs likes the line changes. The bench mob was their 9th most used unit. The following units were all more common: Rose/Brewer/Korver/Boozer/Noah Lucas/Korver/Deng/Gibson/Asik Watson/Brewer/Deng/Gibson/Asik Rose/Korver/Deng/Boozer/Noah Like every other coach, he mixes and matches depending on what works. As I mentioned earlier, the one thing he didn't do often is break up Noah/Boozer and Gibson/Asik. That may happen more this year.
-
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 01:34 PM) but thats so rare compared to the amount of times he did his hockey line change substitutions generally speaking, Thibs likes the line changes and sticks to them RZZZA statement 1) Deng plays a ton with the bench, so he's a bench player. RZZZA statement 2) Thibs likes the line changes and sticks to them. One of these has to be false. He really doesn't do line-changes, at least not complete ones (he does usually keep his frontcourt paring together). Rose/Brewer/Korver/Boozer/Noah was the Bulls' fourth most used lineup last year. The 3 above it were all combinations of starters (some variety with Rose and Hamilton being hurt).
-
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) Thibs does his substitutions much like line changes in hockey doe. The bench goes out like a unit, they play together. Then the starters come back. Its rare that he'll pick and choose. Right, because he NEVER banished Boozer or Noah to the bench for entire quarters or anything.

RZZZA logic: Deng is a dog. However, his family also owns two cats. Clearly that means Deng is either a cat or some kind of dog/cat hybrid.
-
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) No, what you just said is dumb. Comparing every player in the league to the role Thibs has Deng play is dumb. Thibs has a very clearly defined role for Deng, and it is not comparable to "every player in the league" who now and then plays alongside with the bench. Deng does it more often, more consistently, for lengthier amounts of time. Every player in the league is not playing 40 minutes per game like Deng does I never said everyone plays 40 MPG and that has nothing to do with whether Deng is a bench player or not.
-
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 12:55 PM) Ok then. So Deng is not a bench member but he will be playing lots of minutes with the bench against other teams benches. This really doesn't invalidate my point: that we'll have 3 starting caliber players playing against other teams benches. Right, because the other team would NEVER put a starter on the floor with other bench players. The Bulls are the ONLY TEAM IN THE LEAGUE that ever does that! Okay, I'm done.
-
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 12:49 PM) Ok, you're just stuck on this argument based on semantics, stuck on silly labels like "starter" and "bench player". Deng is very clearly both, that's my point. His heavy minutes with the second unit is blatant evidence of that. Do you doubt that he'll be on the floor with the second unit? No, so what are we arguing about? EVERY PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE plays with the second unit at times. By your definition, every player in the league is a bench player. That is incredibly dumb.
-
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) How is that a change of subject? That was my whole point. I said we'd have 3 starting caliber players in our bench mob. Deng/Kirk/Taj You people decided to pick a fight with me over who is or who isn't a bench member based on silly word play. I'm saying the fact that he plays significant minutes with the bench justifies my putting him in there. geez It's not "silly word play" it's the definition of the term "bench player".
