  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 08:22 AM) I'd urge Zoomslowik to post, but I do believe they could offer something like this to David West if they amnestied Carlos Boozer. The issue here is eating $60.6 million remaining on his contract. That is just absolutely not going to happen. I have no idea what the new salary cap is or what new rules I have to learn, so it'd be hard for me to give a definitive answer. However, even under the old system I don't think that would be feasible. If I recall correctly, the salary cap figure last year was at like $58 mil. If you wiped out Boozer's $13.5 mil contract, they would be still be at around $48 million (Noah's extension kicks in, which hurts). I can't see $10 mil being enough space for David West (unless the market for him is seriously depressed due to injury, which I doubt). With a lower BRI, the cap would come down, making it even less likely the Bulls would be able to add a decent replacement unless I'm missing another change.
  2. I realize one was just posted, but I HAD to do an auction league because they're awesome. Yahoo ID- 28653 password- soxtalk
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) What's truly sad is that Rashard Lewis will get amnestied, and then get a pretty solid payday. Yeah, I can't wait to see how seriously Nene and Marc Gasol get overpaid while the owners claim that they fixed the system.
  4. You still have to pay the guys when you use the amnesty clause, they just don't count against the luxury tax and most of their salary comes off the cap (not sure what percentage they agreed on). Given that Atlanta's ownership situation is in flux, I seriously doubt they're going to pony up almost $85 million to amnesty Johnson.
  5. You people better play, I want to crush some people.
  6. Games like that are why I still wonder how NU will do. They gave up WAY too many offensive rebounds, their centers were beyond awful, they took some very goofy shots, and Shurna/Crawford had "only" 32. Add it all up and they barely beat Stony Brook at home.
  7. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 23, 2011 -> 09:39 PM) You've got two teams likely to be ranked in UNC and Texas and a few others with that chance to be (Illinois, Butler, Marquette). I don't see that being that different from this year. Duke and Kansas the top tier with Memphis and Michigan somewhere in the top 25. I obviously don't agree. This year you have a legit top-10 team in Duke and three other talented/ranked teams with Kansas, Michigan and Memphis. A lot of people thought UCLA would be decent too, though that isn't going well. I don't see that holding up next year (though again, it's absurdly early so things can change in the next year). UNC should be good, though how good is up in the air. If the NBA situation is still crappy and Barnes and Henson stay they'll be amazing, if they're gone they're talented but less proven. Texas will have talent, but like Memphis this year it will probably be young and underachieving early. After that, I don't see a guaranteed ranked team (realistically, Texas might not be). Illinois will be the most talented of the remaining field, we'll see how their young guys develop this year. I haven't seen them yet, but on paper it looks like a crapshoot after Richardson, Leonard and Maniscalo (who will be gone). Butler has been pretty bad so far, they'd need to pull a guard or two out of their ass. Marquette loses Odom and Crowder, so that'll be an a tough adjustment early in the year. Mississippi State could be like UCLA, talented frontcourt but suspect backcourt. That just leaves USC, who have three losses already, and Chaminade. At least to me, it looks like UNC's to lose. Texas could beat them if they play well, maybe Illinois if some guys develop quite a bit.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 23, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) Who's in the Maui next year with Illinois? A quick google search didn't show a bracket, but the field is... Butler, Illinois, Marquette, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Texas, USC and obviously Chaminade. Granted it's insanely early, but that looks like a fairly weak field.
  9. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 01:19 AM) They have 3 guys capable of rebounding at a halfway decent rate though (Shurna, Mirkovic, Curletti). That's new to me. They're not getting any offense out of either of the centers and will still get torched inside by a good big man (like tonight), but they're a little bit deeper. They do need a third scorer, but they have some depth at guard as well. Also, I've been really impressed with how invisible Sobolewski has been. I know that's a backhanded compliment, but he's a freshman point guard that really doesn't make many mental mistakes. Meh, Luka and Curletti are combining for just over 3 rebounds per game so far. Their third leading rebounder so far is actually Sobolewski. Luckily for them Shurna and Crawford are both giving them 6 boards a piece. They do have some depth on the perimeter, but their guards haven't been great and they really only have 2.5 big men (Shurna is a combo forward). Their centers are what they are at this point (Luka might give you a few baskets but is slow and floor-bound, Curletti is quicker but has no skills), so I'd really like to see more consistency from the guards. I can't see them being consistently successful if they have to have 40+ from their two studs. I'm actually reasonably happy with Sobolewski so far (at about 8 PPG and 40% from the floor and 3 in Charleston, decent ball-handling), I'm mainly looking at Marcotullio and Cobb. I'm hoping that they're just starting slow due to injuries and that they can get closer to 8 PPG on average, because some nights they'll need 40 points from their non-Shurna/Crawford players given their frequent defensive issues.
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 01:14 AM) This belongs in the drunk thread. Heads are you really on a 3 day bender because of one win? Heads prefers to call it a "weekend".
  11. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 09:37 PM) Did Northwestern really just win a basketball tournament? Holy crap. Hey, they beat ISU and ND in that tournament at the Sears' Center a few years ago too. Crawford looked awesome, that makes me feel better. The centers still suck, though Mirkovic's post moves look a little better. Hopefully one or more of the guards step up to be a consistent 3rd option instead of points by committee outside of their two stud forwards.
  12. QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 03:39 PM) health was code for "Tebow is leaving and I'm f***ed because I didnt bother recruiting anyone worth a damn so I better quit now so I dont embarrass myself". Which time? When he took that leave of absence, he was only gone for like 2 months.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 07:24 AM) I don't disagree with you about that. In the NFL, the QB gets too much of the credit or too much of the blame. People see the 1-4 record to start the year, then the 4-1 record since Tebow took over. Add in the 2 late comebacks vs. MIA & the Jets, and people see him as a winner leading his team on, despite his inability to throw a football. This exact phenomenon really bugs the s*** out of me. For some reason at the same time people are starting to realize that "wins" isn't a good stat in baseball and look at more pitcher-dependent stats, NFL fans and media seem to be giving way more credit to quarterbacks for "winning". It was easier to ignore when it was just in the Brady/Manning debate or when they were talking about Roethlisberger's standing historically, but with Tebow it's getting really ridiculous. You didn't hear s*** about McGahee's monster game against Oakland or Von Miller and the defense in the other wins, it's all f***ing Tebow. It drives me nuts, it's not all on him.
  14. Ha, I've been saying Meyer at OSU pretty much since Tressel was fired. The only reason to think it wouldn't happen is his health, and we have precedent for him ignoring that with his "leave of abscense" at Florida.
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 17, 2011 -> 06:28 PM) Mississippi State is destroying Texas A&M I don't find that terribly surprising. Middleton is out for A&M and Mississippi State has some talent.
  16. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 17, 2011 -> 04:34 PM) That was a fun game. Lsu looks awfully coached. They certainly didn't handle the zone well. NU went to the 1-3-1 after the first half and the game quickly turned. I'm not really sure why they went man to man to start the game. It was blatantly obvious that LSU was way more athletic but not terribly skilled.
  17. Looks like another one of those years for Northwestern. They hit pretty much every line on their checklist against major conference opponents. Scoring drought that lasts over 5 minutes? Check. Awful half where they rely too heavily on the three and trail by double digits? Check. End up hitting double-digit 3's at a high 30's/low 40's clip anyways? Check. Get destroyed inside? Double check (LSU's frontcourt was 15-19 from the floor). Lead by 9 with less than 10 minutes left only to let it come down to the last few possessions? Check. Shurna is a stud, the jury is still out on the rest of the team. Crawford was invisible in the first half but finished with 17-9. Everyone else did just enough.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) Cris Carter. And exactly. The HOF of the NFL is no joke. Here are all of the LB's in the HOF. I dont see Briggs as a peer in this group. LOL, I screwed up Haley too. Go me.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) Hey you're right, add another HOF candidate in Gould. One of the most accurate kickers of all time. I'm sure Lovie really coached him up to be the kicker he is today though right? You do realize that there's only one player that did nothing but kick in the Hall of Fame, right? There aren't any guys there solely on the strength of their returning ability either, and putting Peppers and Briggs in is a bit of a stretch as well. Keep in mind that guys like Chris Carter and Charles Hailey aren't even in yet.
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) "If this deal is accepted...I advise guys to stay in school and get ur degree, Master's if possible. U might be able to make more $ that way than playing in the NBA in ur 1st five years. Being the 1st pick of the draft would mean nothing." Read more: http://blogs.herald.com/miami_heat/2011/11...l#ixzz1dYHF5h3c f*** Nazr Mohammed. I doubt 1/8th of the players could get a Masters. Kobe, Ray Allen, and role players here or there. Exhibit A. Even at that D-League rate you're making $75k, and that's well below the league minimum.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) Exactly, and s*** like the Dleague exceptions are just to change the negotiating points away from BRI to that stuff..."well we'll take out the dleague exceptions for another .5% in BRI" Pretty much. They stuck something onto their proposal that the players would never agree to so they can say they "made a concession" in order to get the players to give something back. Brilliant. This whole thing is really annoying. The owners keep asking for all kinds of new rules to curtail spending on top of the extra 10% cut of BRI they want and the players seem to be listening to the agents, who should have no say whatsoever in this but keep convincing the players that they can't make any concessions so all of their clients remain cash cows.
  22. Amazingly dumb. Especially when you consider the second comment.
  23. QUOTE (farmteam @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 06:50 PM) Rock, you ready to watch a laughably bad IU team in the "Battle of the True Freshmen QBs?" Our offense is actually playing pretty well lately (Tre Roberson and Stephen Houston are forming a solid backfield), but our defense is seriously the worst FBS defense I've ever seen. I'll say our offense surprises a few people and actually does decently against your vaunted defense, but we still can't stop anything. tOSU 55 IU 27 I thought NU's defense was terrible, but last week proved that Indiana is on another tier. It wasn't just the consistently wide open receivers either, they let the highly mediocre Jacob Schmidt run for 110 yards on 15 carries. That was a truly pitiful display of "defense" on both sides.
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) Like the Spurs glory years that started that year? Meh, the Lakers won the next three titles, so I'd say it was more of a transition year. The talent level was pretty awful. The East was a joke and a lot of premier players were on the decline.
