I knew having TLR as manager was going to suck but I don't think I was prepared for these lineups, he's taking terrible lineup decisions to the next level. -

Amazing, he's hitting him 5th. I can't imagine the defense of this. And sure as shit looks like Vaughn is playing the weak side of a platoon. Great use of your top prospect, good thing Nick Williams doesn't suck fucking shit. -
Of the 181 players on an active roster with 1500 career PA's only 8 have a career batting average of .300 or greater and only 2 of those guys have a sub .150 career ISO, it's extremely hard to do. Assuming he'll be a perennial .300+ hitter because of his bat to ball skills while ignoring the role power plays in batting average seems unwise. Miguel Cabrera Jose Altuve - AKA the REAL reason Madrigal was drafted 4th overall DJ LeMahieu Mike Trout Joey Votto Charlie Blackmon Buster Posey Mookie Betts

Comparing Nick Madrigal, a 4 year college starter, to Tim Anderson, an extremely raw Juco player, isn't exactly instructive. Also, Tim's defense is still pretty bad but he makes up for it with explosive athleticism (range and arm in the field, power at the plate) that Madrigal does not possess. That's the biggest issue with Nick, he doesn't have any of the physical traits to overcome his limitations, he just can't afford at all to struggle with parts of his game that should come pre-baked with a polished 4 year college starter. Also, a lot of Nick's fuck-ups in the field aren't leading to errors.

Lynn's 111 pitches were the most by any starter this year (Bauer had 110 on the 7th), it's the only completed game and only shutout in MLB to this point.

I have a feeling it'll eventually come out that the Brewers asked for Madrigal in a package for Corbin Burnes and were rebuffed and I'm going to lose my shit.

Then he shouldn't be on the roster. -

And I fully acknowledge that Williams will get 2 hits tonight because everyone's bitching about him starting, that's just the way it works. -

No, fuck that. Nick Williams can knock of the rust in the cage, you don't automatically get a start because you're new. It should matter if the player is any good or not. -

Nick Williams isn't even close to a good enough hitter for his handedness to matter when making out the lineup. When you can't hit the platoon advantage doesn't fucking matter. -

LaRussa's obsession with starting bench players is going to drive us insane. -
It's like he's making decisions in slow motion, like he can't process what's happening fast enough, hence the relievers constantly hurrying to warm-up, I don't know that's something that you'd expect to improve with a 76 year old who's been away from the game for a decade. Seems like the problems we're having are exactly the types of situations you'd hope to avoid by hiring a hall of fame manager.

Last I heard it was right around 9.5% which is insane. -

2021 vs righty starters: .206/.325/.290/.615 2021 vs lefty starters: .292/.382/.496/.877 This isn't something we didn't see coming when Eloy went down, it's 100% accurate to question whether or not this lineup has enough thunder vs righties, so far they're not fairing well at all. -
Hanser Alberto put up 2 WAR in 2019 slashing .305/.329/.422 (9.1% k rate) with positive defense. Realistic expectations for Madrigal at this point probably aren't too far off from 2019 Hanser Alberto, hopefully with a higher walk rate than 2.9%, though with his total lack of power and natural inclination to expand the zone I don't expect a high walk rate from Nick, he's going to be challenged constantly.

Kinda interesting: coming into today there have been 146 games started on the season, basically once through the rotation, the most pitches from a starter is 105 by Johnny Cueto. Out of 146 starts only 5 were 100+ pitches, Lance Lynn's 99 pitches were 6th most.
-
League average IP/GS this year is 4.9, the Sox were averaging 4.8 before Keuchel's 5 innings today. They're also averaging the 2nd most pitches per start at 90, league average is 83 PIT/GS.

Yeah, I regret posting that, the sample size is way too small.
-
So, why exactly do people do this to themselves? You don't need to closely track every player that's been traded away, you seemingly gain nothing from it but misery, seems really dumb.
-
I mean he's slashing .267/.389/.533/.922 what exactly do you want?

Tim Anderson to 10 day IL, retroactive to April 5

I know he's got 3 singles in 10 AB's but Billy Hamilton getting 3 starts in your first 7 games of 2021 is rough. -
Is 44th percentile in sprint speed as advertised? I mean the 6th percentile hard hit% is but posting a below average sprint speed? What happened to that 55/60 grade speed? Admittedly it's early but nothing is trending in the right direction for him.

Looking at that list hammers home the lack of depth this team has. We can't afford injuries anywhere.
