  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 08:49 AM) Most of which you spent typing this post. Yes but now the 2 or 3 people who care about Pitch F/X data will be able to save those precious 40 seconds of their own. I'm giving here, Balta.
  2. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 08:47 AM) If they add Bautista like the si article mentions, Werth becomes expendable. That's rather preposterous. Utley (they're best player) is out until September and f***ing Greg Dobbs and Cody Ransom will be filling in until then. It'd make a bit more sense to acquire Bautista, play him at 3B and keep their best current hitter around (Werth) so that they can stay in the race until Utley's return. Swapping Werth for Bautista is a lateral move akin to (as Balta pointed out) the Cliff Lee deal.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) I'm definitely not a fan of it either. I think you could have Jackson for much less. Hell, if you want to trade Hudson for another pitcher, go get Carmona. Wow, I just noticed that BR is now liking to brooks baseball's pitch f/x tool in player game logs now. I went into Jackson's game log to find his last outing so I could check his velocity on brooks (95/97), I happened to click his pitch count and it took me to his pitch f/x data for that game. Thanks, BR for saving me 40 valuable seconds.
  4. Harrell's supposed to go tonight for Charlotte, I imagine if a deal were close he'd be on his way to Chicago. Kinda sucks having to start Lucas Harrell in the middle of a pennant race.
  5. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 08:28 AM) I completely agree, but if we are talking upside, the still young (26 year old) Jackson has a higher upside than Hudson if you ask me And if he had 2 or 3 years of service time under his belt that would be fine, trouble is he's up to 5 years and is already being paid like an accomplished, veteran starting pitcher, not the project that he really is. $8.35M next year, 6 years of Dan Hudson (3-4 ultra cheap years) plus another spect for what amounts to a pretty mediocre starting pitcher who's still considered a project 5 years into his career.
  6. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 08:23 AM) over reaction city....jesus. Is this move a tremendous deal? no. does it have the potential to work out in our favor? yes. Does it have potential to blow up in our face? yes. the fact is we don't know. Nobody does. stop acting like this is the worst thing in the world. There is just as good of a chance that Hudson never comes close to being as good as Jackson as there is that he will be better, so right now all you can do is wait and see. Its certainly a gamble, and for a guy who has had success and had the 4th fastest fastball on average last season, I'm ok with us taking a gamble on Jackson. BTW....look at what Arizona gave up and got/will be getting for both Haren and Jackson. Talk about buying high, selling low Still waiting for that awesome fastball to translate into something more than a league average to slightly below average K/9.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:02 AM) Exactly. But looking ahead to 2011, wow. Peavy (hopefully healthy), Danks, Floyd, Jackson, Buehrle with Hudson/Sale waiting in the wings. Me likes. That's a $54M+ rotation.
  8. As if you're not all freaked out already there's this: Jackson over his last 5 starts since his 149 pitch no hitter: 27.1 IP, 19K/15BB, 7.24 ERA, 1.94 WHIP .330/.412/.496/.908 Scary, scary stuff. Please, please, please don't let this happen.
  9. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:26 AM) I'm actually okay with Jackson for Huddy+prospect. Jackson is young and has good stuff, he is a typical coop can fix him pitcher. And I love this even more because KW is saying F U to Rizzo Age doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot when he's only under team control for 1 more year and is already expensive ($8.35M), it's not like we're picking him up with 2 years of service time, he's being paid like a proven veteran not a young project. I'm not giving up 6.3 years of Hudson (3-4 cheap years) for 1.3 years of Jackson when Hudson could easily be a mid 4 FIP pitcher the rest of this season and next at 400K.
  10. Rosenthal: #WhiteSox in serious discussions for Edwin Jackson. Would send RHP Daniel Hudson and a prospect to #Diamondbacks. Story on site soon. #MLB 7 minutes ago via web I sure as hell hope not.
  11. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) good lord people, i'm simply talking about this year at 3B not his career. I like as the popularity of UZR grows the sample size necessary to use it as an accurate measure of a player's defensive value has shrunk. At one point it was 3 years in order to remove any anomalies now it's down to 300 innings.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 08:05 PM) Grind out 4-3...UGH 8 for 54 (.148) with RISP "Don't tell me what you hit, tell me when you hit it." How come this only applies when it's a positive?
  13. I think it's clear that the Astros' acquisition of a young, near major league ready 1B means they're prepared to trade Berkman to the White Sox.
  14. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) The Astros are flipping Gose for Brett Wallace. WTF? http://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/19853461575 4th organization in about a year for the 13th overall pick in the 2008 draft.
  15. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) Probably nothing but Dunn was removed in the top of the ninth. I don't watch the Nats much so they may always take him out bc of his defense but thought I'd mention it after he smoked his 24th in the bottom of the eighth. It's standard procedure. Nothing newsworthy there.
  16. Rosenthal: #Marlins' return for Cantu will be Double A RHP Evan Reed & Double A RHP Omar Poveda, who is on DL recovering from TJ surgery. #Rangers #MLB
  17. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Hahahaha, that is quite odd considering I was doing basically the exact same thing... I'm really setting myself up for a monumental let down on Saturday evening when the deadline passes and we don't make a move for an impact bat, it's just really hard not to get excited when you're reading every single report out there.
  18. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) Dunn just smacked his 24th bomb of the year on a line to left center field I just happened to be watching and picturing him in a Sox uni at the exact moment of contact, it was quite an experience. I think I need to go change my pants. Would love to add some of that sweet, sweet oppo power to a team that doesn't hit a lot of balls out the other way.
  19. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) I'm not sure what he brings except a more expensive version of Jim Thome. A massive upgrade over Mark Kotsay and a little hope that the Sox could improve upon their near league worst production from the left side of the plate. (.247/.314/.334/.647, only ahead of the .644 OPS Mariners for 14th in the AL, WAY behind the .724 OPS A's for12th)
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) They were in it? From reports: about as "in it" as the Angels were. Sure as hell seems like the market for Dunn is shrinking.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:02 PM) If the Phillies have to pick up his option and there's no money coming in, that's somewhat balanced I'd say. The option does not have to be picked up, instead the buyout has increased from $1M to $2M and the Astros are throwing in $11M. In return the Astros get a couple of 19 year olds in A ball and a 28 year old starter coming off an 81 day stint on the DL with a forearm strain who a lot of people don't exactly think highly of. Meh.
  22. What is your end game here? Does his 7/15 performance in the recent Twins series increase KW's interest in Scott? If not then who cares? To take it a bit further he hit Blackburn, Slowey, Baker, Rauch and Slama. He's now: 3/14 vs Baker 4/9 vs Blackburn 3/6 vs Slowey 1/3 vs Rauch 1/1 vs Slama So what exactly does this change?
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 01:42 PM) Here's what probably happened. Bernstein read on MLB Trade Rumors that the Sox are "all over the place". He then called or texted (sexted!) somebody he knows at the Sox and confirmed it, and then he passed this off as if he was breaking some news on his own. They did mention Rosenthal's "all over the place" tweet.
  24. Ken_Rosenthal The players in the Oswalt deal, which is still not official: J.A. Happ, OF Anthony Gose, SS Jonathan Villan. #Phillies #Astros #MLB 1 minute ago via web Aside from the Peralta deal has a team really overpaid in a trade yet? Prices are reported to be astronomical but it hasn't manifested itself in any official deals just yet.
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) He has to be a slight improvement over Q. Eh, not really.
