QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 01:28 PM) Why can't they just put Kotsay in RF if he's going to play? He isn't really an OF anymore. -

Pierre LF Vizquel 3B Rios CF Konerko DH Quentin RF Kotsay 1B Ramirez SS Castro C (Freddy's personal catcher) Beckham 2B Ozzie's really rolling out the rotating DH the past few days in an attempt to prove its worth and keep this team intact. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) The Rays just intentionally walked MCab for the 3rd straight game with runners on 1st & 2nd. And for the 3rd straight game the move worked. This is the same manager that intentionally walked Josh Hamilton with the bases loaded, 2 outs and a 4 run lead in Arlington during one of Hamilton's torrid hot streaks in 2008. I love the way Joe Maddon's mind works.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) Would it be meaningless if he went 0 for 22 vs the sox top competitor this year? Yes. The Twins caught him at the absolute wrong time (.319/.391/.606/.997 over his previous 26 games, 6/12 in the series prior vs Tampa) he was absolutely white hot when that series got going and he just kept it up for 4 more days (7/15 in the series), doesn't really mean anything in the long term. Just that Luke Scott is a streaky hitter who when hot can destroy any pitching for good stretches of time.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 01:25 AM) Ted Lilly+AL+our ballpark=recipe for disaster. That said, beggars can't be choosers. Why the f*** did Peavy have to get hurt!? 51.4% FB% (highest in baseball) -----> 10.6% HR/FB (12% would be standard) -----> 1.46 HR/9 (11th highest in baseball, would only go up at the Cell) Fun

REALLY looks like Oswalt is a Philly: Ken_Rosenthal FOX 26 in Houston reporting #Astros and #Phillies have deal in place for Oswalt. Trying to confirm. His approval would be required. #MLB 12 minutes ago via web

They got a good look at Sergio who had one of his most impressive outings of the season tonight.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 11:11 PM) The players' union would never go for a shorter schedule or prescheduled doubleheaders. They would if it meant 26 or 27 man rosters.

Make sure you click "run" and then "no".

From the team's twitter feed: http://twitter.com/OFFICIAL_TIGERS/status/19774611329 Tigers acquire Jhonny Peralta from Indians for minor league pitcher Giovanni Soto. #mlb Well, we're f***ed.

Oh yeah, looks like Ben Sheets is out for the season due to flexor tendon surgery. From Susan Slusser of the SF Chronicle:

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 09:47 PM) Westbrook is about as good as Joe Saunders. If you really need a 5th starter, why not? The ~$6M price tag is something to balk at.

This game was over before it started; Ryan Rowland-Smith is an historically awful pitcher, luckily we did exactly what we were supposed to do and kicked the living s*** out of him.

Strasburg has been scratched from his start tonight after injuring himself during warm-ups. No word on how serious. Ben Goessling, MASN: Boos for Miguel Batista as he warms up. There's a steady agitated murmur at #Nationals Park right now. 12 minutes ago via TweetDeck And an update: Rizzo said #Strasburg had trouble getting loose in the bullpen. They'll do an x-ray and MRI on his arm. Precautionary for now -- no pain. 3 minutes ago via TweetDeck

I'm starting to get impatient. Just do SOMETHING, ANYTHING to alleviate my crippling trade deadline boredom.

QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) So it's nerdy to gush over a long-awaited sequel to the best (RTS) video game of all time, but gushing over a game like Red Dead Redemption is just fine? Yes, exactly. Now take another puff of your inhaler and dive back into your digital fantasy world.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 05:41 PM) I'd take Garrett Jones if the Pirates practically gave him to us. But otherwise, I'll pass. And seeing as how he's under team control for 5 more years there's absolutely no reason for them to do so.

QUOTE (lord chas @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) with pkt on the garrett jones idea I'm sure SoxAce is right there with you and I think you're all nuts.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Haren cost Joe Saunders and 3 junk pitchers not even in their top 10 prospects. Cliff Lee (and injured reliever Lowe) cost Smoak (and his whopping .210 BA) and 3 minor leaguers that nobody ever heard of. WHY is it that people here seem to think it is going to cost us half our damn team just to get one f-ing rental? Adam Dunn is a FA at the end of the year. He is worth a little more than what the Nats would get if he walks, which is what, 2 draft picks? Trading a MLB starter in Hudson AND Beckham, for a RENTAL, is just f-ing crazy. Dunn should cost us maybe Santos and 2 or 3 other minor leaguers, probably both pitchers. Fielder being locked up for another year i can see costing a bit more. Smoak is 23 years old, was the 11th overall pick in the 2008 draft, the #13 overall prospect in baseball (Beckham was #20 last year) and hit .293/.411/.461/.872 in 599 PA in the minors between 4 levels over the last 1.5 years. The fact that he struggled in his first 275 major league PA at age 23 didn't change his status as an incredibly valuable young player with huge upside. Smoak is basically = Beckham.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) It should be higher than Dunn's. Willingham can play defense and hit almost as well. For sure.

There's always Josh Willingham though I'm sure the price for him is higher than even that of Dunn.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) If the DBacks throw in Adam LaRoche, do you bite if you're the Sox? Also, give reasons please Not a fan of Edwin Jackson, I'm not paying $8.35M and Daniel Hudson for a starter with an xFIP consistently in the mid 4's, that's a mid to back of the rotation starter. Personally, I haven't lost faith in Gordon, I see him as a future franchise player and he's under team control for another 5 years, Kelly Johnson on the other hand is a typically good offensive player (~.345 wOBA) and a mediocre defensive 2B under team control for 1 more year (at around $5M-$6M, maybe more), personally I see Beckham outperforming him next year (all around) and possibly even this season the rest of the way. I like Johnson but I'm not giving up incredibly valuable assets to acquire him. Throwing in an Adam LaRoche rental changes very little. You really have to look at the future value of your young players: Beckham 5 more seasons (3 very cheap) and Hudson 6 (4 very cheap) more seasons. Compare that to 1 more expensive season from both Jackson and Johnson.
