  1. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) •A source tells George A. King III of the New York Post that the Royals will listen on all of their players, including Zack Greinke. As one MLB source explained to Yahoo’s Jeff Passan, the Royals would really need to be blown away to trade their ace (Twitter link). I would be curious to see what it would take to get Greinke to the Sox... Players that we don't have.
  2. Ken_Rosenthal #Tigers not ruled out, but #Yankees appear front-runners for Haren. Story on site shortly. #Diamondbacks #Cardinals #Phillies #MLB 30 minutes ago via txt
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) KC is willing to listen to offers for Greinke. He would be absolutely dominant in the NL. JeffPassan Royals listen on everyone because it would be silly not to. How blown away would they need to be to trade Greinke? "Atomic," source said. 5 minutes ago via web
  4. Ugh SI_JonHeyman #tigers, #phillies, #yankees, #cardinals said to be in on haren. he is now expected to move. tigers could be favorite. 2 minutes ago via web
  5. Some Oswalt related tweets: Ken_Rosenthal #Twins NOT on Oswalt; haven't even contacted #Astros. #Dodgers in, but face usual $$$/prospect issues: http://tinyurl.com/23m73mn #Mets #MLB 5 minutes ago via web jaysonst One more in Rumor Central: Astros asking one big-leaguer, 2 high-end prospects & a second-tier prospect for Oswalt http://es.pn/avaTZH 26 minutes ago via web
  6. There is no way in hell that's the best offer the Orioles could find for those 2 players, just no way. Luke Scott is having an outstanding season and a few teams have shown interest in Tejada. That being said, as I remarked earlier: Miguel Tejada would serve no purpose on this club and would be a waste of ~$2.5M.
  7. It's tough to say just how good Luke Scott would be in RF, he's started only 37 games in the outfield since 2008. Real hard to make any assumptions based on defensive metrics from 3 years ago.
  8. Ken_Rosenthal #Royals like Francoeur. GM Moore had him with #Braves. $5M salary an obstacle. Also: Frenchy 1 more year of arb; potential non-tender. #MLB about 1 hour ago via web Of course they do. Dayton Moore really is clueless. Isn't this the same guy that stressed OBP when he was first hired then immediately traded for Mike f***ing Jacobs and dealt for Yuniesky Betancourt last year? His team is currently 3rd to last in baseball in walks and he's interested in Jeff Francouer. Holy crap.
  9. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 11:54 AM) Nah... expensive but not that rich. "It would need to be, in our opinion, an A-plus deal," Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall said. "Ideally, what we would ask for is major-league ready pitching, be it starters and/or bullpen, and prospects." Haren's 4.60 ERA through 21 starts is about a run higher than his career average, but his strikeout and walk rates remain among the best in the league. From 2007-09, he threw the third-most innings (668) and posted the fifth-best ERA (3.18) in the majors. And with a relatively affordable contract that runs through 2012 with a team option for 2013, the Diamondbacks are looking for a sizeable haul. "If we can get back three or four pieces that bring value now and also are controllable for a number of years, then we'd have to consider," Hall said. He said that could mean getting a pitcher who already is in the major leagues or one considered to be big-league ready who hasn't yet gotten an opportunity. Hall says a trade of Haren wouldn't be a salary dump nor would it signal that the Diamondbacks are entering a rebuilding phase. He instead views it as an opportunity to plug other holes with the club, both in talent that it gets back via trade and by freeing up money to use in free agency, perhaps on a closer. "I think if we bring in the right pieces and explain ourselves, I think fans will understand it was a move to improve our team now," he said when asked how the trade might be viewed by fans. Haren is set to make $12.75 million each of the next two seasons - well short of what frontline starters like CC Sabathia and Roy Halladay will make - and his deal includes a $15.5 million team option for 2013. Yeah, looks like things have changed a bit today, I was going off this: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writ...ml?eref=writers Even in that article it mentions an "A-plus offer" and that their main focus is pitching, I don't really see how we match that criteria.
  10. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 11:48 AM) Yeah, it would be painful... but Q is pretty much a china doll and headcase... with equal chances of being an offensive stud, injured, or in a self-induced funk. And I'd love our chances against just about anybody in a short series with that rotation. Plus Haren has a reasonable contract that we'd control for the next 3 years. It would be easier to find another hitter than a top-quality pitcher. And it would allow us to dangle Hudson as the carrot to find one. Just a thought. The problem is all other teams know that Q is made of glass, his trade value isn't that high, he has much more value to the Sox than he does on the trade market. Even if the D-Backs did have interest in Quentin you're not getting Haren without including Hudson+.
  11. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) Anybody willing to trade Q if it would bring us back Haren? We do need some kind of offense for the final 2 months. Also; the asking price for Haren supposedly is 3 big league ready ballplayers: 2 starting pitchers and a reliever.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) BP: Five trades that need to happen Tejada would really serve no purpose other than to muddle up the big league roster and waste $2M+, we don't really need old, bad former roiders. I also can't imagine the Orioles not getting a better package than that for those 2 players.
  13. Late game chat. Get it done.
  14. Putz has made 36 appearances this season; he allowed a run to score -- whether inherited or otherwise -- in only 5 of those outings. He's had 21 outings in which he did not allow a hit. 18 of his 36 outings have been perfect. He's had only FIVE outings in which he's allowed multiple baserunners. He's also yet to allow a run -- whether inherited or otherwise -- on the road this season. That's 19 IP, 24 K, .152/.200/.182/.382 against and 7 IR/0 IS. He's allowed 5 extra base hits this season, good for 3rd among all relievers with at least 30 IP (Benoit and Venters have allowed 4 each)
  15. QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) how about Dan Uggla A lot like Adam Dunn he's adverse to DH'ing and he'd be a non-tender candidate next year when his price tag reaches 8 figures in arbitration.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) Because all you really want him for is 2-2.5 months. Their asking price will be based on the fact that he's still arbitration eligible next season ($5M-$6M price tag). He'd cost a fortune. He's also not likely to come close to matching his first half production, so that's doubly bad. I imagine it was a very simple inquiry from Williams, just testing the waters a bit. I'd be mighty pissed if we traded for him.
  17. If Dunn accepts arbitration (which he wouldn't) then that's still a tradeable asset, you're not saddled with that contract. Amazing that you're worried about paying Dunn $14M next year but have no problem paying Oswalt $16M per in '11 and '12 (yeah, he's demanding that his option be picked up) Personally I'm not too worried about "losing flexibility" I'm not seeing a whole lot of that right now from our current DH, seeing as how Kotsay is a disaster in the field in his own right. Oswalt does not want to play here, he's said it in years past and he said it again this year. Hell even if he did want to play for us the Phillies are looking to turn Werth into Oswalt right now, I can't see any way in hell we could top a package they put together after turning a hell of an outfielder into prospects.

  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) So what happens in that pre-arb year? Can we give him any contract we see fit? We can give him a maximum pay reduction of 20% of his 2012 salary so we'd have to pay him at the very least $2M that year but I believe we are under no real obligation to pay him any more than that (like any other pre-arb player). If he's a good major league player by that time I'm sure they'd give him a little more than they absolutely must.
  20. He'll still be pre-arb in 2013. He's not going to earn an entire year of service this season. '11: $1.25M '12: $2.5M '13: pre arb '14: arb '15: arb '16: arb
  21. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) The important thing is that if you can't extend him, then is it worth it to sell off all the top prospects for a year and a half of Fielder? Another question: do you really want to be the team that locks up Fielder to an 8 year, $180M deal? I know I don't. His prospects are scary 4 years down the road, let alone 9.
  22. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 09:01 PM) Paul Konerko, Great year. Jayson Worth, Horrible year. It evens out. In what world is .280/.371/.502/.873, .376 wOBA, 2.2 WAR a horrible year? His wOBA is roughly equal to Rios'.
