There's a reason why he's 32 years old and has less than 700 career plate appearances.

Is there a reason why Bucher has tweeted the same thing 5 times a day for the last 3 or 4 days only worded differently? His only purpose seems to be downplaying the Bulls' chances of landing any of the big free agents.

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) Trying to think of a bad Decaprio movie ?... Trying to think of a bad Nolan movie? Following, Memento, Insomnia, Prestige, Begins, Dark Knight, I enjoyed them all.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) He took a bad angle to the ball, but it was a frozen rope basically right over his head on a night in which the wind was howling. I tend to side with the great play side of it moreso than the bad angle one. Don't get me wrong, it was not an easy play, it just wasn't nearly as difficult as he made it seem.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) It was still an outstanding play or "recovery." Obviously noone talked about the defensive route nor should, but that was still a great play to make even though his route wasn't very good. Haters gonna hate, and that is not surprising with you. Yes, because I'm a "hater". It was a Sammy Sosa special: do everything wrong until the last second then fall down/dive and make the play. It's like watching Nate McLouth in CF; that dude makes an inordinate amount of diving catches, unfortunately it's because he's getting to the ball late, this won him a gold glove much like Quentin's ability to make moderately difficult plays look impossibly hard have won him Hawk's heart. Jermaine did the exact same thing with high flyballs to the track, lucky for us I don't think Quentin's nearly as bad as Dye.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) I saw that play and I thought "Wow... he's going to get himself killed out there". It was a great catch, but did it need to be? Would a better right fielder have made that play a lot easier? I wonder how Quentin would react to being made the permanent DH? Maybe Jones gets DFAd and De Aza is made the starting right fielder with Quentin taking the DH spot... Rios makes that one look easy, catching it in stride at a moderate pace.

"Andruw Jones is said to be in the best shape he's been in for a decade. This could wind up being the best $500,000 the White Sox ever spent."

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) Inception is 7 for 7 on Rotten Tomatoes. I am dying to see this one. It looks incredible. Definitely at the top of my "must see" list right now.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) I don't believe that it's Lebron's Twitter, but if it is, it being named KingJames says a lot about him. His publicist confirmed it.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 01:00 AM) The way he is hitting (and that defensive gem he made yesterday) he is comming back to becomming "THE" CQ. It's funny because that "gem" showed just how awkward he is in RF. He took basically the worst route imaginable to get to that ball.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 08:55 AM) .333/.469/.923/1.392 in his last 13 games. .275/.353/.556/.908 in 173 PA since May 9th. Sure it's cherry picking but it makes me feel good.
-
I'd prefer Lillibridge in CF over Kotsay. That guy just can't move anymore.
-
Rios definitely needed a day off. One of the best things about acquiring a big lefty bat would be that I would hopefully never have to watch Andruw Jones play baseball again.

I seriously don't know why I'm still reading tweets every 5 minutes, it's all bulls***. You get a new report around 9 AM and it's shot to s*** by 10. There's really no point.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) Why not? I believe that DeAza has always produced well in the majors when he's had the opportunity. His major problem has been that he always lands on the disabled list. He most certainly wouldn't be any worse than Kotsay / Jones. If Viciedo is for real and produces offense and is adequate defensively (he just has to be as good as Teahen), then I think that there is room for a DeAza type in the lineup. His career major league slash line is .232/.279/.311/.590 in 185 PA. That's not exactly strong production, it's pretty close to what Gordon Beckham is giving us this year.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 12:02 AM) You think he would get something like that if the Yankees weren't involved in the bidding? My guess would be more like what Lackey got from Boston...5/80ish Yeah, I really do. I also think they'll be involved. He's older than the others but that's why he'll get less years: both Johan and CC (elite lefties) got $23M a year.

QUOTE (VAfan @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 11:58 PM) My own take is that Fielder is too expensive for the Sox to take on, esp. with Boras as the agent wanting a monster contract in 2012. That ship sailed once we traded for Jake Peavy and claimed Alex Rios. Can't see the Sox reversing field and unloading one of those guys to free money for Fielder. LaRoche and Dunn have also been talked to death. What do people think about Aubrey Huff? The Giants are in 4th place in the West, 7 games out. That tells me they aren't sellers yet, but if they aren't closer in a month, they probably will be. Huff stunk last year, but had a fine season in 2008. He's a definite improvement over Kotsay/Jones. Not a huge addition, but he wouldn't cost anything either. The Giants are 3.5 out of the wild card, assuming they don't lose much ground between now and July 31st they're more likely to be buyers than sellers.

I would hate to be the team that gave Cliff Lee 5 years, ~$115M. Talk about a crippler. Since he had his coming out party at age 29 I do wonder if people realize he'll be 32 next year. Hell, I'd be ecstatic if the Twins traded for Lee with the stipulation that he sign an extension, alas he would almost definitely be a rental.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) Tampa, us, LAA, possibly ATL, possibly SFG Glaus does have 14 HR and a .822 OPS and Aubrey Huff is at 15/.900

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:05 PM) You stay the course. That's been Williams' MO his entire career. If the right deal comes up, you make it. If not, don't. It doesn't matter if they're winning or losing, that's all he's ever done. If the Twins add Cliff Lee, then s*** happens, and you either try and add someone else, or you keep the current team and hope there's a God and he's on your side. If the pitching staff remains crazy good the rest of the year, and I certainly think that's a possibility, that bat may not be required. It's just a wait and see game at that point. I'm speaking from my point of view, not KW's. Just worried about my confidence in our chances.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) The problem with this is EVERYONE is going to be looking at LaRoche. Lets spitball a bit. Who out of all the contenders will be in need of a 1B/DH? Those teams would be: NYY, BOS, TBR, DET, MIN, CHW, TEX, LAA, ATL, NYM, PHI, CIN, STL, SDP, LAD, COL, SFG?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) Considering that we might have a rotation of Peavy/Floyd/Hudson/Sale/? in 2012, that might not make things any more difficult than they are currently, in terms of payroll. Currently, we're paying our 5-man rotation and Paul Konerko a total of $48.25M. A rotation of Peavy/Floyd/Hudson/Sale/ plus Fielder would probably put us around $47M. That gives you a few million to play with to add a veteran SP or another young arm to fill out the rotation. I also don't want a whole hell of a lot to do with giving Prince Fielder an 8 year deal.
-
The problem is, personally I think we need another big bat to keep up with the current Twins roster. If they add Cliff Lee, well, I just don't know what to think.
-
QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 09:39 PM) Fielder will cost way more than this organization is going to be willing to pay, extension wise If we did trade for and extend Prince we'd be paying about $51.5M to Peavy, Rios and Fielder in 2012, doesn't sound like a great idea for a team with a payroll hovering around $100M and possessing a weak farm system.

LaRoche hit his 13th in that game.
