Sox vs Cubs 6-27 game thread 1:05 first pitch

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 01:59 PM) Why is Danks having so much trouble getting lefties out this season.... its the difference from him having a good season and a great season. He's allowed 4+ runs in a game twice this season (and 1 of those was 4), I'd say he's having a great season. -
Teahen most likely out until after ASB at least

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) If it was that easy, Omar wouldn't be the oldest position player in MLB. There would be plenty of others. I posted this in a game thread a few days ago: If Omar reaches 300 PA this season he'll be the first infielder (3B/2B/SS) to reach as many PA in his age 43 season or later in the history of the game. Fisk did it as a catcher and a few guys did it as outfielders and 1B but he'd be the first "infielder". I know the man is a freak and all but he's reaching unprecedented territory and even Ozzie said last week that Omar was brought in here to be a reserve for a reason. 43+, 300+ PA (pos#): Fisk (2/3/D) Rose (3) Yaz (3/D) Rose (3/7) Franco (3/D) Sam Rice (9/7) 1934 Franco (3/D) -

Sure he was "safe" (I suppose he was out) but once again Alexei slides 2 steps too early. You'd think he'd have learned how to slide by now, isn't that one of the reasons whey we brought in Jeff Cox? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) That's a good description of the reaction of every single Yankee to every called strike. Then perhaps he'd fit in nicely with them next season on a 1 year deal. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) Bah, if that bugs you, don't watch a Yankee/Red Sox game. I don't. It's really gotten old watching him slam down his bat every time he misses a high fastball or grounds out to the right side. He just routinely acts like a little b****. -

One thing I won't miss when Pierzynski eventually leaves the organization is his f***ing hissy fits every time he makes an out. -

QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) You gotta wonder why anyone would pitch the Carlos with Kotsay behind him even though Kotsay just singled as I posted this He singled because there was not a runner in scoring position. The man clams up in such situations. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) I'd just put Quentin on, take my chances with Kotsay and the bases loaded. Oh Lou, if only you took my advice. Quentin = money w/ RISP. Kotsay, not so much. -

It's amazing how much confidence I have in this team right now. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) Where is Randy Williams in the equation? Well if you multiply Rivera's WHIP by 3.7 and Gregerson's by about 4.5 . . . That bastard Chad Qualls is making a run for Randy's league leader status; he's up to 2.250, unfortunately for Randy he hasn't pitched in over 2 weeks so he hasn't had an opportunity to raise his 2.292 WHIP but he still has a solid lead. If you want to know just how bad those 2 are; the #3 from the bottom is Rafael Perez at 1.890.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) He must have been on something that's not illegal then. Yeah, pitchFX had him sitting at 98 last night (Putz average fastball at 94.4, Garcia at 88, Cashner at 97.24) and topping out at 99.3, that's pretty f***ing hard even for Matt Thornton and I really don't think it's a good thing. -
The Mariners basically bought Russell Branyan from the Indians last night. They traded Ezequiel Carrera and Juan Diaz (neither is considered anywhere close to a top prospect) for Branyan and a PTBNL or cash (Branyan's '11 buyout), they got him cheaply thanks to their willingness to take on the $1.1M remaining on Branyan's deal. That's 2 trades within a short period of time where a team gave away a decent player for next to nothing in order to save a little over a million dollars.

Mariano Rivera has allowed 17 H+BB in 27.1 IP this season (0.622 WHIP) oddly enough that is not the best in baseball and by a pretty wide margin. Luke Gregerson of the Padres has allowed 20 H+BB in 38.1 IP (0.522 WHIP). The all time record for a reliever in a 70+ IP season is Dennis Eckersley with a 0.614 in 1990.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) Oh, and by the way, I meant Kotsay's June splits...should have clarified that. I know what you meant. He's hitting .217/.345/.348/.693 with a .311 wOBA in June. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 11:55 AM) Hah...have you looked at his June splits? He has a .382 OPS. Mark's is nothing to write home about either, but at least it is above .700. Not after yesterday. Jones is 3 for his last 38, hitting .173/.269/.346/.615 in 119 PA since May 1st and has the worst approach at the plate I've seen of any player all year. I hate watching him hit. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) I just don't see what you guys are seeing in the games that Andruw starts recently that I'm not... Yep, unless you're gonna start playing Dayan (sure as hell doesn't seem like that's going to happen) we really don't have a replacement for Kotsay, it's just such a disappointment to see him in the lineup everyday even if it is the best option. -

You go closer by matchup, no need to to set aside one of your 2 remaining dominant relievers to only work an inning that may never come. The most important 3 outs of the game often come before the 9th, it would make no sense to make 1 of Thornton, Putz or Pena unavailable for those big time situations just because popular opinion says you need a set closer. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 09:18 AM) Hey Look! It is Rick Nash! All Canadians look alike.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 12:32 AM) I still firmly believe that playing Mark Kotsay every day one of our lesser problems. Not every player needs to be an all star when you're pitching is as strong as ours is. The much bigger key for me is to keep Quentin going, and to rouse Gordon from his slump and get his confidence back. If we can accomplish those two things, it will be the same as making a couple of huge trades in early July. With the biggest worry being the probable regression of Konerko and Rios back to the mean sometime in the relatively near future. IF Quentin and Beckham get back on track and we don't add another bat (just speaking hypothetically) we're left hoping those 2 pick up the slack.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 12:02 AM) He's the cheap, safe move IMO. That's just it, even if it's what we think is sensible Kenny isn't really a "safe move" kind of guy, trading for and subsequently locking up for no good reason Mark Teahen, trading for Peavy and acquiring Rios all within a few months of each other proves that out. If he believes the division is winnable (and at this point there's no reason to believe otherwise) you'd have to think he goes for the perfect fit even if it does cause some major personnel and financial issues if we come up short at season's end. The guy wants nothing more than to win and to show how f***ing huge his balls are while doing so.
