  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 12:24 AM) Cowley adding some more fuel to the fire. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox11.article This f***ing thing is coming to a head.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) Yep, I forgot all those games that were tied that he blew for us didn't count. 5 for 9 in those situations over the past 2 seasons. Don't count as a blown save but they're standard closer situations and just as if not more important than a save.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) Yep, I forgot all those games that were tied that he blew for us didn't count. $7.5M and he can only pitch under one very specific scenario and even then you can only be comfortable putting him out there with a 3 run lead. There are teams out there that pay similar money to their closer that do not have this problem, they don't s*** the bed when there's not save to be made. God I hate arguing this.
  4. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) While I agree that Jenks been pitching like complete turd, and Greg likes to overvalue anyone from the 2005 squad, Bobby only blew 1 save so far. The last on this teams long list of problems. Thanks, I hadn't heard that exact line in like a week.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) I tip my cap to Omar who I normally criticize and hate. I again applaud Bobby, but all his naysayers are quiet again. How bout you people who constantly dog on Bobby give him some love. My god ... he's Bobby f***ing Jenks. I again credit Omar, who I have despised, and applaud Beckham, who I haven't buried and applaud Danks for a great game! But where's the Bobby love?? He's still amazing. HURRAY! The $7.5M closer has been competent at his job for 2 straight games! It's kind of sad when that's a big f***ing deal.
  6. Looks like Oney's done running his mouth (for now):
  7. Dontrelle Willis' line from today: 4 IP, 6 BB, 3 H, 2 R, 2 WP, 2 BK
  8. Sergio is just impressive as all hell. He was going to eventually hit a rough patch this season and he's doing a hell of a job to get through it right now.
  9. This doesn't even have anything to do with Cowley, any reporter in town would have phrased it that way. When you're dealing with a subject as complicated and potentially explosive as the waiving of a NTC or asking to be traded in the event of a complete rebuild a tweet paraphrasing a player's quote is not going to suffice.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) Oh come on, after Cowley's initial tweet, it sounded much worse than what Peavy actually said. Maybe you shouldn't freak out over a tweet that paraphrases a quote that should NEVER be paraphrased?
  11. Vizquel since Teahen went down: 33 PA, .321/.375/.500/.875
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) Yup. Why is it that I see nothing to get upset about in that quote?
  13. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 01:36 AM) There are still a group of people who could give two s***s about hockey out there... There were a ton of people at the Sox game wearing Hawks jerseys.
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) I could post this in 3 different threads: MDGonzales Williams: "Some changes need to be made." 3 minutes ago via mobile web cst_sox "I don't know what and I don't when but some changes need to take place.'' KW half a minute ago via API
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) He's also 29 years old and frankly is unlikely to keep up this pace for the next 2-3 years, already expensive, and could be a major grab for a contender this year. He should be a damn good offensive player (.365 wOBA) and great defensive player (CF for the next few years, maybe RF at the end of the deal), that's an integral part of a ballclub. If you don't expect him to keep up even that level of production then A.) he should never have been claimed in the first place and B.) we need to go into full rebuilding mode because I don't see a whole lot of building blocks in the organization right now. Personally, I'm only trading him for a package of talent that blows me away.

  17. MDGonzales Vizquel to miss 1st 2 gsmes(sic) of cubs series to address family matter in Venezuela 10 minutes ago via mobile web
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) I can't bear to move Alex now. I have fallen in love with his talents. If we do trade Alex we're rebuilding, not retooling and KW has not been one to rebuild.
  19. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) I swear Kotsay has come up with the bases loaded at least 4 times from the 5 hole and I honestly cant remember a single time he did anything with that opportunity.. He had 2 opportunities in the opener: GIDP in one and a fielder's choice in the other which accounted for his only RBI with the bases loaded this year. (0-6)
  20. Kotsay's not the reason this team is bad but that doesn't excuse his .292 wOBA (horrible) and 5 for 35 hitting with RISP given that he has more PA in the 5 hole than anyone else on this team. He's been awful and his retarded play on the field has cost us more than a few runs, his baseball IQ this season has been non-existent.
  21. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) 11 K to 0 BB is that the best K:BB performance of the year? Tied with Billingsley, Halladay, Silva and Paulino for the best of the year. All NL pitchers, of course.
  22. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) I think MB makes sense to the Mets if KW is willing to take Perez and his $12M back he could probably get a pretty good prospect back. Trading PK, Linebrink, Andruw, and Jenks does not make this team any better. Not now, not next year, and not in five years. You have to trade something of value to get something back namely Danks and Thornton. AJP will be a Type A free agent at the end of the season and if you cant get two high quality prospects back you might as well hold on to him, Flowers needs the time in AAA apparently. Except the Sox would have to offer AJ arbitration in order to get the picks, something that won't be happening seeing as how AJ would accept it the very second it was offered and we'd be stuck with a ~$7M, 34 year old catcher.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) I think another issue for him is that he's getting everything up. That was certainly the case last game. He's leaving the change up in the zone and he's getting pounded for it, the pitch only works if it's diving below the knees, when he leaves it belt high as he has been it tends to go a long way. Unsurprisingly Fangraphs has his change rated at -6.9 for this season -- the worst in baseball -- that pitch more than any other has been the one getting hit hard. It also accounts for his miserably k rate since that's his go to pitch with 2 strikes.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) I think Buehrle would be willing to try and make things work out with the Cardinals as well. Of all players, he's the person that we need to be trying to trade. I can't see many people complaining about it if we did deal him, especially given his recent performances. His numbers since the perfect game are pretty frightening: 25 GS, 5-13, 5.07 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, 3.6 K/9, 2.3 BB/9, 1.03 HR/9, 1.55 K/BB If there were no name attached to those numbers you'd want absolutely nothing to do with him especially at a $14M+ per year price tag.
