    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ May 23, 2010 -> 11:46 PM) They didn't paint themselves into a corner, they have said all along the island is what it is. Obviously relative to the real world the island is completely ridiculous and impossible, so how would that be explained? ALIENS! The light is just discarded power goo from an alien craft that landed thousands of years ago. The island isn't actually special it's just being held together by volatile martian goo and a cork. [i hope I didn't miss something here] The one thing that's kind of bothering me is the bulls*** with Ben being trapped under the tree, apparently that was just a few minutes of filler because not long after that he was up and about no worse for wear on the cliff with Sawyer, Kate, Jack and Hurley. I get it was probably just a way to delay them so that Jack and Flocke could battle it out but they just ignored his escape from the immovable tree. I suppose the obvious answer is that the island's vibrations moved the tree off Ben but they didn't even show that and he appeared to have no physical injury after having a f***ing tree fall on his abdomen.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 23, 2010 -> 11:40 PM) What about Hume? Hurley's first mission as the new Jacob was to find him a way home, I assume he succeeded since he and Ben were pretty satisfied with their work on the island during their talk in purgatory.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (Real @ May 23, 2010 -> 11:35 PM) IMO the reason Alex, Michael, Walt, Ben, Anna Lucia, Elloise, Widmore, Daniel, and Charlotte (am I missing anyone?) weren't in the Church was because they weren't ready to move on yet The Losties created the alternate timeline to remind themselves of the most important times of their life (when they were on the Island), and created the Church as a meeting place for when they were all dead, so they could meet each other once more before going to the afterlife, the alternate timeline was a pseudo-reality that they created to "live" in until everyone was dead Not sure exactly what the order was of Losties who died, but basically Kate, Sawyer, Lapidus, Miles, Richard, and Claire all got off the island, and as they flew over, Jack saw their plane leave as he died along side Vincent What I liked about this ending was it made "timeline" irrelevant, which is what I personally enjoyed most about the show, the characters Ben not being ready to move on same with Anna Lucia was a way of hinting at this. I believe you're spot on.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ May 23, 2010 -> 11:24 PM) What in the world COULD HAVE possibly explained the s*** on the island? Anything they would have tried to explain that with would have been truly terrible Which is why an open ended finale was the only way to go, hard for me to get upset over that.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 23, 2010 -> 11:16 PM) What about that ending was open to interpretation? They all died at some point and then at the end once they remembered their real lives and reconnected with the others from the island they passed on. The entire thing just feels like a giant cop out to me. The only thing open to interpretation was the powers and mythos of the island which is probably the best way to go since there is no acceptable explanation for this. The reveal in the church is in and of itself a cop-out since it's a convenient way to give everyone a big shocking finale but avoid having to come up with a true explanation for the island's powers. The thing is, I just find it tough to get my ire up over the finale because I didn't expect any grand answers for the light at the heart of the island and any lame-ass crazy explanation they could come up with just wouldn't suffice so leaving it open to interpretation was the way to go, the alt universe being purgatory is neither horrible nor awesome because I didn't really give a s*** about the alt timeline to begin with, the on-island stuff was the only interesting action in the final season up until the in-purgatory flashbacks started happening. Basically, they're trying to get a rise out of us with the purgatory angle because it distracts from them not answer any questions about the island's powers and I'm just not going to get upset over a possible lame explanation to a question that didn't interest me in the first place. The finale for me is flock killing Jack, Jack killing Flocke, Jack knowing that he's f***ed so he sacrificed himself to save the island, Hugo is the new Jacob, Ben in the new Richard, Miles, Frank, Kate, Sawyer, Richard and Claire all get off the island and the rest is open to your imagination, the end. Works for me.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 23, 2010 -> 10:56 PM) So why did Jack bleed from his neck every few episodes in the alt timeline? Something was trying to remind him of the final day of his life, his eventual death (the mortal wound coming just before the cut on his neck) and make him conscience of his current state of limbo.

    LOST!!!!

It's funny because the big reveal at the end didn't explain the driving force of all 6 seasons (the f***ing island) it just explained away a plot twist that was introduced in the final season. Introducing purgatory at the beginning of the final season and eventually explaining it in the finale as the "big reveal" was a convenient way to get out of coming up with an acceptable explanation for the crazy powers of the island. So the finale didn't really answer the biggest questions we've had for years, instead it tied up a plot twist that they created within the last few months.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 23, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) So I guess we'll just never know why the island was so magical. But honestly, would there be any answer that was truly satisfactory for why the island was controlled by a magic light at it's heart that was held in check by a stone cork?

    LOST!!!!

Everything on the island happened but the alt was purgatory, a way for them all to get together before passing into heaven. And no, the plane didn't crash, they got out alive, they just died later, as everyone does at some point.
  10. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 23, 2010 -> 11:56 AM) Freddy Garcia is 41 games over .500 in his career (124-83). I was surprised to find out it was that much. Mark is 36 (138-102). JFP is 27 (98-71). Gavin is 5 over. (38-33). And, of course, Danksy is 2 below (34-36). Well when you play the vast majority of your career on 90+ win teams you're going rack up some victories. From '99 to '06 (8 years) Freddy Garcia played on SIX 90+ win teams. '99: 79 Wins '00: 91 Wins '01: 116 Wins '02: 93 Wins '03: 93 Wins '04: 75 Wins '05: 99 Wins '06: 90 Wins That's an average of 92 wins per season over the 8 years he was regularly healthy.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 23, 2010 -> 10:50 AM) Ugh, he went 0-4 yesterday and is hitting .203 Kotsay's 8 for his last 19 with a HR and 5 BB Jones is 8 for his last 47 with a HR and 6 BB (12 K) It's certainly not his worst logic.
  12. Career vs Saunders: Pierre 2/10 Nix 3/5 w/ 3HR Jones 2/7 w/ HR, 2BB Konerko 4/13 w/ HR, BB, 4K (.308) Rios 5/18 w/ 2B, HR, K (.278) Pierz 2/7 w/ 2K Quentin 0/4 w/ BB Ramirez 2/11 w/ BB (.182) Beckham 0/3 w/ K
  13. The hunting is highly addictive, it's real hard to wander out into the wilderness and not kill a whole s***load of deer.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2010 -> 06:13 PM) Against LHP, Nix is far more dangerous than Teahen. A .333 OPS against LHP in 30 ABs is quite the feat. You just argued against your own point by noting the large flaw in your argument: a s*** sample size. Teahen has a career .700 OPS vs LHP (.743 last year), over the course of his career he hasn't been a non existent offensive threat vs LHP as he has this year and given that it's only been 28 PA (26 AB) there's still plenty of time for him to move back towards his career norms.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 17, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) Oh. Another master Xs and Os guy. Bruce Bochy (a solid long time manager) did it 8 times in '08 when Omar hit .222 with a .550 OPS.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 17, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) Which other manager in baseball would bat him 2nd? Ron Washington actually did it 6 times last year, this is Omar's 4th go in the 2 hole this year.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 17, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) Why the heck would he bat 2nd? If you insist on putting him in your lineup then bury him at the bottom. Omar is on fire, he's hitting .333 over his last 6 PA.
  18. Career vs Porcello: Pierre 0 PA Vizquel 0 PA Jones 0 PA Konerko 2/3 w/ 2B, HR Rios 0/3 w/ K Pierz 0/3 Quentin 0/2 Teahen 2/8 w/ 2HR, 2K Ramirez 1/3 Beckham 1/1 w/ HR, BB
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) The one thing that could help is the fall in the salaries in the middle of the pack due to the recession going on. The argument has to be made for players of similar ilk, and trying to argue that their salary should fit that. The fact remains; even in AJ's worst possible scenario he's still guaranteed $5.4M in arbitration. Last year the 2 highest paid catchers in free agency were a couple of shockers in Jason Kendall and Ivan Rodriguez at 2 years and $6M each so one year, $5.4M at age 34 coming off what's looking to be a pretty bad year at the plate would be one hell of a get for AJ.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) It could. It depends on the figures submitted by the team and AJ, and then who sells the case better to the arbiter. The very least the Sox could offer him would be $5.4M which is likely quite a bit more than he'd be looking at on the open market and if he finishes the year with even mediocre offensive numbers and his people submit a number of $7M up against any figure lower than that submitted by the Sox he'd win in a landslide. A good major league veteran everyday catcher making a reasonable salary is not going to see a salary reduction in arbitration, a slight pay rise would be likely.
  21. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 17, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) Wouldn't arbitration also give AJ a pay raise? He's making $6.75M this year, and it's kind of difficult seeing the Sox paying him $8M next year (especially if this year forces them into outright rebuilding). At the very least he'd make $7M. I can't see any conceivable reason why he'd turn that down, there's really no way he'd land that on a TWO year deal on the open market let alone 1 year.

  23. QUOTE (T R U @ May 16, 2010 -> 10:39 PM) No I did not select the prime trial.. Also, it does not say that I get a $20 gift card so I think I am going to just cancel the whole thing and give up my brief amazon career.. I hate dealing with stuff that I am not directly involved with, like I cant tell if its the pre order edition or not.. Bah, quitter. And for the record, the only place you'll see the $20 gift card and guns pack deal is on the game's page, no email or order status will say you're getting those but they will come.
  24. QUOTE (T R U @ May 16, 2010 -> 10:33 PM) No I did not select it to be gift wrapped.. The game itself is 59.99 and then shipping and handling is 5.98 which I am assuming is for the get it on Tuesday shipping I selected.. I will cancel it and try it again and make sure there isnt any unnecessary stuff.. That's odd. You did sign up for the free trial of Prime, right? Unless things are different with the membership and trial membership shipping should be free. If you didn't sign up for the free trial, you really should you get it for 90 days and it should save you $6 today.
  25. QUOTE (T R U @ May 16, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) Its listed as a gift item too, dunno how that happened.. Either way it appears to have worked, but I still didn't see anything about golden guns or a $20 gift card.. I did get some $5 thing for an mp3 download which is worthless to me anyways.. I dunno, if I get it Tuesday afternoon for the same price that I would have gotten it for had I gone to gamestop its whatever.. Did you choose to have it gift wrapped? That would account for the extra $5. If so cancel the order and do it again this time make sure you don't check the gift wrap box. Don't know why you wouldn't get the gift card, you did order Red Dead Redemption, right?
