QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 01:19 AM) I'm sure the post-game was a fun one. At least Alex Rios had the last laugh with the fans. Imagine the boos he'll get Wednesday... Yep, all 27 fans in attendance will be all over his ass.

QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) Omar 'I'm 42' Vizquel leading off for a MLB team? Different line-ups every night (any other team you know have different line-ups like this night-to-night let alone year-to-year)? The past-the-prime squad of stiffs and Kotsay in the 5-hole? R/L/R/L/R/L/R/L/R/L/R/L/R/L/R/L/R/L Beckham bunting I'm smarter/cuter than the game -- so tired of his bullsh*t Ricky Romero, like all the novice/rook pitchers in the 2nd half last year we made look brilliant are not because they have electric stuff, it's because we dont allow our players to play in a consistent line-up with a coherent/intelligent game plan. Ozzie, like your idiot son, time to go ... We used 124 different lineups last year. The Angels used 123. The Twins used 129. The Tigers used 126. Texas used 123. The Rays used 123.

4/13 GT: Sox @ Blue Jays, Floyd v. Romero

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 06:07 PM) The Sox were in the Thome shift. Teahen was technically the cut off as he was the only fielder on the left side of the infield. That's not how it works, the shift throws everyone off at first but your assignments remain the same on relays, the 3B needs to cover the bag at third and the SS needs to go out for the cutoff, it just takes a little longer to execute. Alexei has had nothing but trouble comprehending his relay assignments, it was a problem when he was at second and it continues to be an issue at short. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) I wish I could be seeing a more exciting team than Houston, but I suppose I'll get to see Lance Berkman before he becomes a White Sox - knock on wood. If you're going this weekend you won't be able to see Berkman, he's not expected to come off the DL until next Tuesday - at the earliest. You will get to see the worst baseball team known to man, however.

QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) Interesting back-story on the game-saving relay against the Twins. Looks like the reason the Twins 3B coach sent Hardy is because: a. he noticed a blown defensive alignment by the Sox, and b. the reputation of Pierre's weak arm. Teahen was actually supposed to return to cover third. So, looks like Alexi blew his assignment. Probably was confused because of the Thome shift. But Teahen noticed it and ran out to get the throw. Amazingly Pierre made a very good throw for such a deep play. Teahen threw a frozen rope to AJ, and Hardy was a sitting duck. So... a bizarre chain of events that ended up very good for us. I'll take it. Alexei Ramirez confused on a relay? Say it ain't so! -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:48 PM) Hmmm.. you got his velocity numbers from May-Sept. Kal in 08? Funny thing is we got guys who aren't at their usual velocity yet either this early. Thornton has been 94-95 a couple of times touched 96 (been 96-98 last year) Santos is 94-95 (was 97-99 in winter ball and in AAA) Peavy, I believe I've seen Danks at 89-91, Putz is 92-94 comming back from surgery (was 95-98, when he was healthy) etc.. http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.aspx?pla...=P&pitch=FA -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) There's a possibility they were using a different gun in SD and his numbers there were overinflated. PitchFX doesn't use radar guns to determine pitch speed, they use sensor cameras. The sensor cameras track the position of the ball several times on its way to the plate to determine the location, speed and trajectory. The sensor cameras in Petco are just as accurate as the cameras in the Rogers Centre. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) I'm not worried about the getting lit up part, I'm worried about his lack of velocity tonight. Good pitchers can have bad location and movement sometimes, that's no reason for concern. But the fact that he was throwing in the high 80s and topped out at 92-93 at most worries me. Peavy's delivery is one that is incredibly hard to watch and mechanically terrible. However, I think the mechanics is what gives him such good movement on his pitches, because he has such intense whip with his arm that creates movement on the ball. If he wants to pitch past his prime, he's going to have to change something or he's not going to get past age 31 or 32. Whenever you see Jake losing velocity, it might be a big indicator on something being wrong with his arm. He threw with better velocity in his first start against KC last season. I could be completely wrong, but his next start will be very, very important. AVG MAX DATE 93.27 95.7 - 3/31/08 92.88 93.6 - 4/05/08 91.72 94.6 - 4/06/09 91.93 94.1 - 4/11/09 91.75 93.8 - 9/19/09 91.64 93.4 - 9/25/09 91.21 93.3 - 10/2/09 90.77 93 - 4/7/10 89.93 91.2 - today -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) He could hit .360 for the season and people here would still say he sucks. Man if Podsednik managed a .400+ OBP he'd be picked off about 20 times with another 30+ CS to go along with it.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 10:01 PM) Actually would of been a good pitching performance if not for a Peralta error. Yep, only 1 of those runs was earned.

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) Rios should be in CF everyday period. There is no sense in moving him around for a very marginal improvement in Jones (and that improvement is debatable- I personally think Rios is better anyway). If youwere going to move them around, Quentin is the one who should move to left. But really, do we need to jockey Rios around everyday? You're not going to see Quentin in LF at all this year. There's a reason why they moved him back to right field: it's his natural position and back when he was playing it everyday he was a plus defender whereas he's been a very bad defender in LF while trying to learn the new angles on the fly. Quentin's going to get a lot of playing time in right early on as Ozzie will try to help him get re-acclimated to the position.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) He's probably actually 4th string, we just don't want to start the arbitration clock on the 3rd string guy. I don't this his "arbitration clock" has a damn thing to do with it. If he were up here as the backup for 2 weeks he'd probably be looking at maybe 10 to 12 PA. Playing time makes significantly more sense then starting some clock that already already ticked to the tune of 34 games last year on a guy who could very well see the big leagues for another 30 days in September before becoming the full time starter at the beginning of next season or simply shipped out at any moment for a big bat making the "arb clock" moot. Not to mention the most obvious problem here: you worry about these things with elite prospects not the Tyler Flowers' of the world. -

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) Awesome 5 hole hitter with the career .410 slugging percentage. I'd consider putting him in the 2 slot, though. Yeah, but now you're going back to numbers. Andruw Jones has hit .207 over his last 1228 regular season plate appearances but now he's back to his late 20's form based on a few spring games in which you saw him drive the ball? I saw Kotsay killing balls all spring perhaps he'll revert back to his late 20's self.
-
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) But how has Andruw Jones looked in his at bats? Much better than a .220 caliber hitter, correct? He's been labeling a lot of balls. I'm talking about scouting a dude, more or less. You guys are busy telling me that I need to take spring training results with a grain of salt, something I knew back in '83 when I was a kindergartener. But thanks for reminding me. And Balta, Beckham looks like he will eventually be a .300 hitter, but maybe we're jumping the gun a little bit with this "OMG HE'S OUR BEST HITTER DON'T TAKE THE BAT OUT OF HIS HANDS" crap. He picked up 17 hits during the spring, how many of those did you actually see? Seriously though, what can you really learn from like 25 to 30 PA? Would you trade big time prospects for a player if your scout advised you to do so based on him sitting in the stands for 5 games? If I was scouting Vernon Wells right now I'd have to say he's one of the best hitters in the game.
-
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) Dude is a singles hitter. The sarcasm done backfired. So what if he is a singles hitter? He looked like a .300 hitter during the spring and has done that before in his career. If he's going to hit .300 during the regular season that OPS will be up around .780 to .800 which would make him a pretty good 5 hole hitter.
-
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) Who gives a s*** about the stats. I'm just going off how certain players looked in their at bats. Hell of a concept, huh? Then why don't you want Mark Kotsay hitting 5th? He looked amazing last month and during September of last year.
-
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) From what I saw of Andruw Jones throughout spring training, he's much better than just a .220 caliber hitter. A good 30 to 40 points better. I don't know how this is even arguable. I also don't know how Kalapse and Balta thought I was basing my opinion on the first three regular season games. I thought that y'all were much smarter than that. I'm smart enough to know that spring results are to be taken with a grain of salt seeing as how it's glorified batting practice and what? A 60 PA sample size, that's 2 weeks worth of games. I wouldn't base an opinion on a player through the first 2 weeks of the regular season let alone spring training.
-
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) Was spring training last year? Since when do spring stats mean a damn thing? Maybe we should hit Kotsay 3rd since he batted .382 in March. s*** Vernon Wells had an OPS just over .700 during the spring, his current OPS is around 2.500. It's pretty easy to launch in Arizona when you're seeing nothing but fastballs and awful offspeed pitches, the game changes a bit when you come north.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) 6. He had a HBP in there as well. Forgot he pinch hit.
-
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) Whatever. From what I've seen of Andruw Jones this year, he's much better than just a .220 hitter. Not even debatable. All 6 plate appearances?
