Why can't all episodes be like that? I was actually entertained throughout. A little Silas Adams goes a long way I suppose.

QUOTE (qwerty @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 06:56 PM) Now only one had over 40 stolen bases in the 2000's? I know you meant 70... Ellsbury had 70 last year, reyes with 78 in 2007, podsednik with 70 in 2004. I guess that would be 1 AL player since 2000 or only 1 over 70. Only 69 times has a player stolen at least 40: #1 is Pierre with 8, #2 is Crawford with 6 #3 Podsednik, Rollins and Figgins with 4. Of course only 8 times as a player been caught stealing 20+ times since 2000 and Pierre leads the way with 3 (he's also #1 with 24 CS in '04, tied with Alex Sanchez) no other player has done it multiple times.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) Andruw did have 130 RBI's and stellar defense. Lets just forget for a second that RBI's don't mean a whole hell of a lot when evaluating a player's worth; Alfonso Soriano knocked in 95 runs that year while hitting LEADOFF for the NATIONALS a team that featured 4 primary position players with sub .700 OPS's.

QUOTE (qwerty @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) Offensively soriano was better, as a whole jones had the better season due to his defense. Soriano was very solid that season defensively also, but really he always (contrary to common belief) has been a good outfielder. Though last year his head appeared to be up his ass, in every facet of the game. I may be in the minority but i think jones has the ability to still be a premier defender if given the chance. As recently as 2007 he recorded a 21.7 UZR. I think he can honestly benefit us more in the field than he will offensively this upcoming season. Jones has been nothing short of magnificent every year defensively prior to 2008. It should be noted that i am taking in consideration his knee surgery and his 14 years in the league, despite only being 33. Baseball IQ has a lot to due with it, something jones does not lack whilst in the field. Jones has never been the fastest (had plus speed in his early to mid 20's), instead he has always relied on stellar jumps on the ball, with even better reads off the bat. Jones is the best our generation has ever seen, and arguably the best ever. Obviously if defense is taken into account it's no contest, doesn't matter what year you pick Jones is going to be the more valuable player. Like I said earlier today (yesterday?) Jones is the best I've ever seen.

My hopes for the White Sox's reality show

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) Jenks is Meredith...with the drinking problems and all. And similar cup size. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) I couldn't stand watching Pods get picked off. I'll take Juan. Pierre's still going to get picked off about 8 times this year, they'll be more palatable because half of them will be on throws over when he's going on first move as opposed to the Pods special of being caught standing around holding his dick.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) Better 2006, Andruw or Soriano? Soriano had a slightly higher wOBA and stole 37 more bases than Andruw.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) If you want to throw out the numbers on Jones, fine. But the fact is he's still only 33. He's lost a lot of weight. He looks good in the outfield. And he's hitting the ball to all fields. I'm optimistic he'll be a productive player for the Sox. Except there's counterpoints to all of those: He's 33: well, he's an old 33, dude's been in the majors for 14 years and has undergone knee surgery within the past 2 seasons He's lots weight: this wouldn't be the first time he's lost a bunch of weight in the offseason and had a dud of a season at the plate, that very scenario took place in 2007 He's hitting the ball to all fields: he has 10 hits, a.) how many of those do you actually know the final destination of the ball and b.) it's 10 f***ing hits He looks good in the outfield: he's played 11 games a.) how many of those games did he play the outfield and how many innings of those games did he play, b.) how many of those games have you actually seen, c.) it's March and d.) it's 11 f***ing games

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 04:37 PM) Yep, and it's why Andruw Jones performing well shouldn't be surprising. He can hit anyone's fastball, and with the ball not breaking much in Arizona, he's going to crush pitches. Same goes with Soriano. That's exactly why I brought up Soriano's name in the "Andruw Jones" thread. He hit .325/.375/.613/.988 with 6 HR last spring. Then he came north, breaking balls started breaking and he finished with an OPS just over .700.

"A homerun here would change the complexity of the ballgame" - Bill Melton
-
The Sox had the 3rd best team offense during the Spring of 2007, we finished the year with the worst offense.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) What's the deal with Melton? They grooming him to be a future play-by-play or color guy? Or is he getting paid intern money to do ST games? He's 65 years old, something tells me he's beyond grooming.
-
The Sox have Carlos Pena up in the pen, that 'ought to be interesting. Is he on lease from the Rays?
-
Heh, the announcer got all excited on a Juan Pierre flyball to left like it was going to get over the fielder's head. I'd venture to guess that Juan won't put a single ball over the left fielders head all year. It's a struggle for him to hit the ball 280 feet the opposite way.
-
I like how Bill Melton says De Aza can do a lot of things then proceeds to put the word "probably" in front of 2 of the 3 skills he names.
-
What the f*** was Kotsay doing there? He had him at 2nd for the final out of the inning.

QUOTE (11and1 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) OK, so Teahen is a great minor league talent. Go Charlotte! Since I'm only concerned with how he can help the White Sox win in 2010, and since we're discussing his struggles as a member of the Sox, my original observation stands: He will need a career year at the major league level to become an average major league player. That's also why I think we paid too much. As for his upside, I was comparing it to Alex Rios, not Chris Getz. Like Teahen's minor league greatness, how Getz performs is not relevant-- unless we are playing the Royals. Over the past 3 seasons Teahen has averaged a .270/.330/.407/.737 line. Last year the average AL 3B hit .269/.338/.423/.762, I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility for Mark in 2010, that'd be a pretty decent projection for him IMO. I'm worried about his defense more than anything. And if he puts up career best numbers in 2010 he'll be one of our best hitters considering he'd have to top the .290/.357/.517/.874 line he posted in 2006.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) I agree. This is why I drafted this speed demon. If he can nab me 60+, I will be very happy, and I think he certainly can be the second guy to nab 70+ in the last 10 years. You mean the 4th?
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) One of the worries I have with the offense is if Pierre isn't getting on base at least at a .340 clip, will they make a change. If they expect him to put up an OBP any higher than .335 then they should never have made the trade in the first place. Personally, I think he could hit .290/.330/.360/.690 with 60 SB and a 73% SB% and you wouldn't be able to keep Ozzie from lauding his tiny leadoff man every opportunity he gets.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 11:58 AM) Do Lessman and Threets ahve to clear waivers? Also De Aza can be send down with no ramifications, Nix has to clear waivers thus Nix will stick around. I wish Lillibridge would go away. Leesman was drafted in 2008 so he's still got a ways to go before he even needs to be placed on the 40, so no he won't have to clear waivers he can just be reassigned with no ramifications. I assume Threets' minor league deal does not include an out-clause (I don't see why it would) so he can be reassigned to AAA without having to be placed on waivers.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) Ok, I'll give it a shot. I thought it might be too quiet but I'll test it today. If you find it to be too quiet you can always use a program like Audacity and amplify the volume.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 11:55 AM) Yeah, I too would like the He Gone! mp3. The best I could find was this he gone. That's the one I'm using and it sounds great.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) You think the Sox will carry 5 OF's, and only Vizquel to back up all three skill IF positions? Possible, but I highly doubt it. 6 outfielders.
-
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) Santos is a bit of a suprise considering he's never had definitive success in the minor leagues. They're keeping him on the roster due to his potential, spring training success, and lack of options. Regardless, he was the public favorite for the final bullpen spot just after Carrasco was non-tendered because of 2 of the 3 of the reasons you listed at the end. And when the favorite wins it's not much of a surprise.
-
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) Which of these guys have options left? All of them are either on vet minor league deals, have options remaining or are not yet on the 40 man so they can all stick around.
