  1. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Let's see Lillibridge's "newfound swing." Doesn't look like he's missed a beat from last Spring.
  2. I'm thinking Brent Lillibridge's problems are a slightly more extensive than "striking out a bit too much".
  3. It's 'puts' not ' poots'. And Bill, something tells me Linebrink won't be thrust into the primary setup role to start the season.
  4. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) Is the video feed for anyone else just super pixelated? I assume that's just how it is since it's a free feed, but I'm just checking.... Yeah, it's not great.
  5. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 08:26 PM) Even though this Office episode has only been a half hour so far, I can safely say this episode is terrible and I won't be watching anymore. I can't stand Michael Scott anymore, which is a shame because he was one of my favorite characters when the show started. Hopefully it ends well. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm done. What a pile of crap.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) True. But the NFL players' timelines are more sped up than most other sports because of the violent nature of the sport and higher decline of skills at a younger age. There aren't many other sports where you are "over the hill" when you hit 30. The NBA is a little like that, but not to the extreme that the NFL has experienced. Except in baseball those 28 year old studs who are coming up to free agency are often signed before hitting the open market so you're left with a group of 30+ year olds who by the 3rd year of their deal are old, expensive and ineffective. Also: a starting pitcher can break down at any age, once you start getting into the upper 20's it's like playing roulette. And worst of all; contracts in baseball are 100% GUARANTEED, at least in the NFL you can cut your old, expensive players loose with minimal collateral damage. These are your highest paid free agents from 2007 and their age at the time: Torii Hunter 32 (good but there's still 3 years left on that deal and he's already 34), Aaron Rowand 30 (bad), Carlos Silva 28 (horrendous bust), Francisco Cordero 32 (decent but crippling his team financially), Andruw Jones 31 (horrendous bust), Jose Guillen 32 (huge bust), Luis Castillo 33 (bad), Scott Linebrink 32 (bad), Kaz Matsui 33 (real bad), Geoff Jenkins 34 (real bad), David Riske 32 (real bad), Octavio Dotel 35 (good), Eric Gagne 33 (real bad), Pedro Feliz 33 (solid), Tom Glavine 42 (real bad), Ron Mayhay 37 (bad) And in 2006 your 2 highest paid free agents were Alfonso Soriano and Barry Zito, there aren't many worse contracts in baseball than those 2. Aside from Vernon Wells i can't think of any deals that rival them. Also in the top 10 highest paid that year were Matthews Jr., Schmidt, Pierre and Suppan, 3 of whom were 32+ when they signed their deals.
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 07:54 PM) The problem with the NFL is that today's high-priced free agent "studs" turn into overpaid old guys within only a few years. Just like every other sport.
  8. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) AWww you ruined yourself. You owuldve liked to have seen Santos K the side tonight! I'm still checking in on the thread, just skipping all the posts that describe play by play. It was pretty easy up until you ruined it just now.
  9. QUOTE (striker @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 05:49 PM) Is Santos the converted SS or is that someone else? One in the same.
  10. Holy crap Greg Walker is insane. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,4628458.story Infield singles? Just as fun as instant runs.
  11. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) You can't afford a $5 radio? Miss a meal. Don't put so much gas in your car. Trust me, it's worth it to hear Farmio wax poetic about golf and butcher players last names... See now you're getting me excited about tomorrow's whitesox.com broadcast featuring the incredible color commentary of Bill Melton. There's only a 50/50 chance he knows who Brent Morel is and I know for a fact he's not aware of the minor league production of any White Sox prospect. Should be fun.
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) Well this blows. I don't feel like sitting in my car to listen to the game...... Pick up a 5 dollar hand held transistor radio from Amazon. You'll be amazed how often it comes in handy during the baseball season.
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) Those bastards! I was listening to it online 20 minutes ago and it was not on..... OK....WTF is going on.... So I can hear the game if I find an AM radio, but I can't listen to the game on The Score's website. Why would they have an "Online only" show that blacks out their AM broadcast? Because anyone on the planet could listen to an MLB broadcast for free over the Score's website (there would be no point to buying their gameday products) but only the people within a certain distance from the city of Chicago can hear the game via AM radio. And this will end up working on me. During the summer time I often find myself in places where I can't pick up a decent AM signal but can get 3g on my phone so I'll end up buying MLB At bat for my phone mostly to listen to Sox games.
  14. QUOTE (quickman @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) Dayan is juan uribe chubby. But drives in the first run. Looks like a great day out there. Kalapse do you have direct tv with the 600 stations its on foxsports west. I have Comcast so no Foxsports West. I'll have to wait until the MLBN broadcast tonight.
  15. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) Oh, I didn't realize you lived down in AZ. By "the city" I was referring to Chicago. The game is being broadcast on 670 the Score right now.
  16. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) I just paid for the MLB At Bat app for my I phone. The price went up to $14.99. Greedy rat b*****ds... I'm mulling over picking that up for my Droid. I assume there's no blackout restrictions on radio broadcasts, correct?
  17. I've decided to turn the game off once this half inning comes to an end. That should give tonight's broadcast significantly more meaning.
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 04:19 PM) Are you "listening" to the game via. mlb.com? I'm listening to the game on an actual radio. I'm 40 miles from the city so picking up the score isn't much of an issue.
  19. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) Im not planning on going to any games in April but, if I had the chance, I'll bundle up and enjoy it. I have never watched a MLB outdoors. All the games I have attended has been in the Dome I guess they built into the stadium warming areas. I guess you can see the game action pretty good from these places. And some of the seats are heated (I imagine those are for the premium season ticket holders) Holy crap you've been missing out. There are few things better than sitting back and watching a baseball game in the sun on a warm Summer day.
  20. I'm on the fence here. I'm leaning toward turning off the radio and watching the game fresh tonight, if I know exactly what's going to happen watching it might not interest me.
  21. Juan Pierre hasn't scored 100 runs in a season since 2004 (and even then it was exactly 100, hardly seems like a sure thing 6 years later), DJ. And when you're getting nearly 750 PA all in the leadoff spot you BETTER be right around 100 runs scored regardless of who's hitting behind you.
  22. QUOTE (The Beast @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) www.670thescore.com - those bastards aren't airing the game? What jack asses! Yeah, because I'm sure it's their call.
  23. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) I know this has probably been addressed before, but what is up with the Opening Day followed by off day followed by the final 2 games of the series. No other 3 game set ever uses this schedule. The fans get all amped up then they have to wait for game 2. Seems f***ed up. Also seems like it would throw off the players too... Just in case it rains or snows on Opening Day they can push it back a day and benefit from that large Opening Day crowd rather than having to make it up later on. If you notice; the dome teams don't get day 2 off.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) He is? I checked the rosters of the AAA and AA teams and did not see him. Maybe I somehow just overlooked him. Go to "Manage Roster" then to Starting Pitchers and he should be 5th from the bottom. His Potential is some how a "D".
