  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) In fact are any games on TV or web? Can I just get MLB.TV for one month and watch the spring training games, since all the regular season games are blacked out? (talking about the White Sox games) The Sox are doing something like 10 more free whitesox.com exclusive broadcasts again this year, the first game is actually tomorrow.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) Is the Saturday game on TV? That's a pitching lineup I'd love to watch, lots of interesting ones in there. Assuming those are the pitchers that will be facing the Cubs (and not he Dodgers, it's a split squad day) then yeah, it'll be on WGN as a Cubs broadcast.
  3. This is per Merkin: Saturday: Hudson, Torres, Leesman (look forward to that), Aquino, Santeliz and Threets Sunday: Peavy, Cabrera, Williams, Santos, Luis, Braun, Thornton
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 12:15 PM) Kotsay probably - no wait. Jones. Kotsay's in RF probably. Pierre - LF Beckham - 2B AJ - C Jones - DH Teahen - 3B Ramirez - SS Kotsay - RF Viciedo - 1B Danks2 - CF Jones is in CF, Kotsay is DH'ing.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) My God. You would swear MLB 10 the Show is the real deal. I'm absolutely blown away. I'm loving the "Sounds of the Show" feature. I've already uploaded a few sounds to my PS3 to enhance the US Cellular Field experience. I just need Nancy Faust playing "Kiss Him Goodbye" for the HR song.
  6. QUOTE (Ranger @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 07:40 PM) Damn you guys! Where's the support??? You're all being removed from my will. Actually, the reason they made the decision a couple of years ago to do this was because a lot of fans and listeners feel like this: A lot of people feel that way. I remember getting complaints in '06 because we aired 15 spring games, which was on the high end of what a lot of teams do. The fact is that most people tune out after the first few innings because, like Hurt said, most people don't really care to listen to a game when the announcers don't even know who's playing. I understand that. But since we were obligated to have 15 broadcasts because of the contract, they came up with the interactive idea (which a couple of other teams adopted. I can't remember who they were, off the top of my head). At least it gives people a chance to talk about the team, which seems to draw more interest this time of year. We also replaced some of the games with the White Sox Baseball Live shows which air from 6p to 10p. We do a few of those throught the month, too. Yeah, in reality the interactive games are probably more of a crowd-pleaser, in all honesty I likely wouldn't listen either way. Spring Training baseball on the radio don't do much for me and it just makes it worse when it's turned into an extended version of the post game show. I have a lower tolerance for stupid baseball thoughts than most and it doesn't get much more ignorant than the calls you field after every game. I understand why you've adopted the interactive format but it's just not for me.
  7. Red Dead Redemption has once again been pushed back, this time to May 18th. By the time this thing finally hits shelves there will be absolutely zero buzz.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) You really want Pierre AND Vizquel in front of Q? Might as well just bat Q leadoff cause there would never be anyone on base with Pierre and Vizquel in front of him. That's a .330 and a .300 OBP in front of your #3 hitter. A lot like that horrifying Wise/Pierzynski scenario from last year. But hey, if you need a bunt those 2 will give you a bunt!
  9. QUOTE (striker @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) What did Fields do to fight it? "Fight" is the wrong word but back in 2008 he declined the White Sox 1 year offer while 21 or so other guys accepted, it just meant the Sox would tender him a deal a few days later. He called it posturing for future contracts, Jeff Berry was of the belief that if he declined the initial offer it would help Josh in arbitration some 3 years down the road. The thing is, the player has no real say in the matter, if the Sox want to tender him a contract he has to accept it by a certain deadline and he eventually did. It was a bigger story at the time than it should have been, in the end it truly meant nothing but it's the sort of oddity that I've only seen out of Jeff Berry, I believe he did the same thing with Buehrle.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 01:06 AM) Can Cabrera hit? I'm serious. Is he capable of pulling an Ankiel and switching? Or turning to basketball? I'm rooting for him, but he does seem like a pile of suck. I still say somebody like Nolan Ryan could make a fortune tutoring ultra tall pitchers, many of whom can't seem to find the strike zone. Of course Ryan doesn't need the cash. He's actually one of the worst hitting pitchers in the history of the game. He started his career 0-20 at the plate with 18 K and 0 BB before drawing a couple walks with the Nationals last season.
  11. It's the rest of the 40 man roster, those who are still in their pre-arb years. According to Cowley they were all signed, that's 18 players. It's basically a formality though Josh Fields seemed to enjoy fighting it even though he had no real power.
  12. QUOTE (palehose23 @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 10:54 PM) Saturday's game will be on the Score also, but it will be an interactive game. I shutter at the thought. No offense, Rongey. Thursday's game will also be shown on MLB Network at 10 pm obviously on tape delay and Friday's game will be broadcast live on whitesox.com. So we're only 23 hours away from seeing White Sox baseball.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) It is fan f***in tastic. It's gonna be a tough 18 hours or so, all the talk has gotten me pretty anxious to play.
  14. Looks like my copy of The Show will be arriving tomorrow. Definitely looking forward to it.
  15. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) Can this guy play the field any longer? He's only 33 and has dropped 25 lbs, so I assume he can still move out there? Maybe we can DH Pierre more often and have 3 legit OF's out there...but it seems as if no one believes he's capable anymore... At least based on last season's performance Juan Pierre isn't a bad left fielder, he just can't throw.
  16. So according to Heyman Adrian Gonzalez is seeking Mark Teixeira money from the Padres (8/$180) and San Diego is offering Torii Hunter money (5/$90M), I do believe this is the definition of an impasse. This should seal his being traded sometime in the not too distant future.

  18. The Sox aren't going to pay Gordon Beckham $1.75M over his final 2 pre-arb seasons, he'll be lucky to get $1.1M. The only way he gets any more than that is if he signs a long term deal.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) You've come a long way from when you told me you probably weren't buying this bad boy. The hype-machine rocks! I have it sitting on my desk next to me since I picked up my pre-order from Gamestop on the lunch break. It seems that this game is going to be masterful. Yeah, as recently as a week ago I wasn't all that excited about the game but my interest has grown exponentially since then to the point where I'm near giddy with excitement.
  20. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I'll be getting the game today, f***ing Amazon. Got this email from them this morning: 2 hours later (like 5:30 AM) they said it was being shipped. Checked the status on their site and it says it's being prepared for shipping with an estimated delivery date of today. I assume I'll get it tomorrow, though for all I know it's sitting on my doorstep right now, won't know until I get home. f***ing bummer that I'll likely have to wait a minimum of 1 more day to play it, apparently they ran out of inventory, guess I should have pre-ordered it sooner.
  21. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) You think Madson would be next on the list if Lidge blows it or gets hurt? Either him or Danys Baez.
  22. Good showing for the The Show so far.
  23. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 02:49 PM) Who is closing for the Phillies this year? Brad Lidge
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) for Madden, we had a thread specifically for the franchise is a different forum. im sure we couldnt get that on soxtalk, but perhaps we should have a dedicated thread. A dedicated thread shouldn't be an issue.
